Hunter Services Pest Control in Chico, California has the worst service I have ever encountered in the industry. Since I used to be a property manager I have used dozens of pest control companies. Most are marginally honest and a lot depends on the quality of the service people they employ. However, Hunter Pest Control is simply blatantly dishonest. We had them servicing us for a few months, and yes, we had a contract which we understood was for 1 year. Not so. If you sign up, we are told, you have to quit in writing and then wait 30 days so they can get at least one more billing in. HOWEVER, they do not seem to understand that when their serviceman does not show up for months at a time it certainly legally voids the contract. No service, no contract.. simple. Our experience, and that of many other people who have complained on line, is that after a few months of service that was disappointingly poor pest control (the pests continued to thrive) their service simply did not happen. No one showed up from November 2014 to May 2015. When a serviceman finally showed up in May he was told about the problem and admitted that they had had a problem with a serviceman who had not been doing his job. The serviceman did spray outdoors, although the spiders are still quite happy and the ants seem to have thrived on the spray. He was given a check for the service and went away. Then, we started getting calls saying we were months in arrears. Yup, they want us to pay for the months of no service. Even worse.... the check for May was marked by Hunter's billing department with an invoice number that is for the service in November, 2014. Problem is, we have a copy of the check that was used to pay for November, with the same invoice number on it. When we tried to tell their billing person this she got super pissy and informed us that if we wanted to drop their service we would need to give 30 days notice in writing. HUH?? They voided the contract and now they are expecting us to honor it. I don't think so. If they push we'll see them in small claims court with a billing of our own for the inconvenience and stress, but watch out for these guys. I guess, from what I can find out, they used to be very good... but they are NOT any more so don't get trapped.
