We purchased a new house full of HD shades and spent a LOT of money we noticed that from the out side that you can see the roller which are not at the top of the window and very unattractive when we complained they suggested we spend over $300 additional for some covers we finally got them for about $160 I cannot believe this is the first time this has come up and I cannot believe we had to spend more money to make their products look attractive from the street. BTW. It helped but still somewhat unattractive. .

Lifetime Warranty not 100% True - But, Great Product

I purchased my Hunter Douglas at Home Depot and showed them the problem. They were very helpful but unable to resolve my issue of poor quality product from Hunter Douglas.

The manager of the department suggested that I contact Hunter Douglas directly.

I have not heard anything from Hunter and can only assume they do not care. My calls to them resulted in rude comments from customer service because my sale at Home Depot was done several years ago.Very disappointed.

I recently had new windows installed and had to remove all my blinds. My Hunter Douglas blinds - 4 double windows and 1 single window. One of the double blinds was frayed while the others were in perfect condition. I tried several times working with their customer service for either a discount to replace or a rebate but without any success. The product is good and I replaced the frayed unit at a cost of over $500.00. Very disappointed with their customer service. Product is of high quality and unsure why one of their units did not meet their standard of quality and lifetime warranty (if all conditions meant).

I bought Hunter Douglas LiteRise honeycomb blinds. I have had them 2 years and they have had to be repaired multiple times. Buyers beware!

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full
The bottom up feature keeps breaking. The repair shop says the transmission is bad and they make many of those repairs. It is warrantied, however, I have to drive 45 minutes one way to get to the shop. They are also very difficult to put back by myself if they are any wider that small window.

We had these honeycomb up/ down blinds for about 4 years. The transmissions break about once per year.

This is absolute junk.

To spend thousands of dollars for blinds and then hundreds every year to have them come out and repair them is absolute theft. I am beyond pi$$ed.

I purchased Hunter Douglas six months ago. Two blinds had warped components.

Have been trying for four months to get them replaced with NO luck so far. HD no more for me.

November 28, 2018 Hunter Douglas has made no attempt to contact me since my call and follow up message ay the end of October. What kind of company breaks their warranty by no longer manufacturing the main part, motor, and not offer the customer options? The motor in my...

Original review Oct 29, 2018
The motor of one of our 9 year old silhouette shades doesn’t work. The other two motorized shades work fine.....so far. I talked to a gentleman in customer service and the best he could do was offer up to $250 off a new shade. I said a new motorized shade is over $1,000.
I told the guy he wasn’t being blamed, but the company certainly does not value its customers. At one time HD was synonomous with a quality product and customer satisfaction and service.
HD is on its third or fourth generation of motoized components, which makes me wonder why no recalls have been announced. At the very least, customers should have been notified with each change and have an opportunity to update the motors in the shades/ blinds.
Does anyone know how or where I can get the shade retrofitted with a new motor or at least convert it to the loop cord?

I am glad I came across this review. Although I am not happy that I came across it after we bought hunter Douglas motorized blinds.

We have had our blinds for less than a year and two motorized blinds failed, I believe, on the same day. Much like this woman, I had performed all the reset suggestions as well as trying A different power source but to no avail. Our blinds are stuck in an up position leaving us with no privacy. For one blind it was only up about 12 inches so I was able to place some thing in front of the window for privacy.

In our case, likely, there are still motors available and they can fix it. After seeing this review, my concern is the lack of durability, and blinds this expensive should be better made.

Extremely disgusted with Hunter Douglas. We have had to replace about 5 motors.

Very expensive!

It is just my wife and myself that ever touch them, and that is about twice a day. It is time the company step up and recognize the problem they have and offer a satisfactory remedy for its customers.

I’m an HD installer. They “may” warranty you motor for 5 years, but ANYTHING WRONG WITH ANY HD BLIND and you’re on the hook for labor after only 90 days.

Their power products are notoriously unreliable. Better than 50% of my HD power installations have required multiple return visits and repairs (send blind back to HD for repair and live without it or with a cheap temp shade). All on the customers dime. Their support is awful, and their Powerview hub/ app is beyond stupid.

Difficult to set up and extraordinarily unreliable.

As an installer, I can’t recommend it.... frankly I can’t charge enough to make the hassles worth my time.

As a homeowner with these shades, I could not agree more. Hunter used to be a respected name in the industry.

Clearly these are junk.

I have a very nice lake home and we put these in a few months ago. Already have had lots of problems.

Appreciate the honest feedback. The people who service equipment know them better than even the salespeople.

All Hunter Douglas motors come with a 5 year warranty. The new motors fit into a new head rail is why they can't retro fit your old one. There were no major problems or recalls , read the HD warranty

Guest

Dayum lady the blind is NINE YEARS OLD. You have unrealistic expectations.

You were lucky to get the $250 discount offer on a new blind. Instead you decide to make a big stink on YouTube and Pissed Consumer and make yourself look an idiot.

While you have a point that they have served well for a long period of time, the point is they have a long warranty that was invalidated simply because they changed the model of the blind and her blind was no longer supported. If the company could have provided a replacement blind of the exact same style, not similar but exact, then I agree the $250 discount was probably worth it.

I have been contacted by HD. They have proposed what sounds like a reasonable solution to this situation at no further cost to me.

I am now waiting for HD to supply and install. I will update further when something happens.

Over ten grand USD for Power View blinds. They look fine but the system is lightweight and flimsy and has failed multiple times, requiring me to pay to have my under warranty blinds fixed...a fix which is fleeting. They will fail again soon. What crap. Never never again and I will badmouth this company every chance I get for the rest of my life.

UPDATE I have been contacted by HD. They are "remaking" all 9 of my shades with a new and reportedly more reliable one-chip motor.

I will continue to update as the reinstall progresses. Fingers crossed!

I purchased 4 Applause Hunter-Douglas blinds 1 1/2 years ago. Three no longer work correctly. One not working at all. The local consultant has not called me back. It’s been a week. I purchased them from her. She said she needed to find my information. I have my receipt. Poor, poor service!

*** product, and I have to pay to get fixed

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full
Failure of 2 of 3 products purchased within less than a 3 year period leads me to believe that either I am unlucky with the product or the reviews of other reviewers are falsified. Regardless, it appears I need to fix them myself, using videos or pay $95 for Bretz Interiors to send a technician to look them over. It appears to cost more for them to repair them, or at least uninstall them, send them to Hunter Douglas, then reinstall them. Clearly I paid too much and expected too much of both Bretz and Hunter Douglas.

Poor Product and Horrible Customer Service

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full

We purchased vinyl Palm Beach shutters for our entire home from an approved Hunter Douglas vendor in August 2014. The problem is the clips that attach each slat to the open/close mechanism are tiny pieces of plastic that began breaking within two years.

At first, we went to the vendor and received replacement clips and repaired them ourselves. However, they kept breaking throughout the entire home. The way they are manufactured is defective and unable to withstand any exposure to sunlight. We reached out to the vendor who requested we deal directly with Hunter Douglas.

We have been dealing with their inadequate and unresponsive customer service department, specifically Sarah Richardson, for over six months. It is obvious they know their product is defective because they have since changed the way they are made. However, they acted surprised and stated that this is a rare and unusual occurrence. Still waiting for all of the blinds to be replaced with functioning shutters that will last.

Horrible customer service full of lies and deception.

They used to be a reputable company, but no longer. Will never purchase another product from Hunter Douglas.

Overpriced garbage that reliably fails-extensive delays in repairs

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full
I purchased (3) $5K Hunter Douglas luminettes blinds. A certified HD salesperson came to my home, measured and made recommendation for the space we had to cover. Essentially, we have (1) motor FOR EACH Luminettte blind that runs 16-feet wide along a custom slider door and across another architecutural window above that 16' slider. This was the maximum length for the motor to be able to support the blinds. I am regretting not being advised by the sales rep to invest in 4 motors for these lengthy, heavy automated blinds. I purchased these Oct17 and have had the motor replaced on one blind THREE times already. Now the motor for the unit 15feet up is not closing completely in either direction (they tilt to close). This purchase represents $15THOUSAND USD to cover those windows. I was told Hunter Douglas is the top of the line and offers world class customer service. The rep that sold these to me literally takes 3 weeks to 3 months just to coordinate the certified repair tech -- and they have the audacity to get rude and abusive with me because that is the route I am relegated to having the issues resolved with these blinds (ie. contact the sales person for warranties/repairs). When the techs do get here, if/when they contact the HD support line, they are put on hold (just like I am) for upwards of 20minutes before they can speak with anyone at HD -- which is required to get authorization for repairs under warranty. The client/onsite tech person must attempt several methods of repairs/resetting with the HD consultant on the phone with their consent that a replacement motor is necessary. It's ridiculous and insulting that for $15K, this is the best they can do. Never again - never Hunter Douglas ANYTHING ever again.

Lifetime warranty is a joke

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full
Hunter Douglas does not make replacement parts after a few years and will not provide any assistance for repair. Result is to buy new blinds to match the other windows. Do not buy from Hunter Douglas and expect a "lifetime warranty". After about 5 years it is obsolete and there is no option but to buy again.

I bought literise blinds and they stopped working in a year. I called the company and sent in the blinds for restringing then 5 weeks later they were sent back to me still broken. Finally the person who sold me the blinds told me that they saw a red mark in it, “figured” it was blood and refused to fix them. It’s a complete lie - no one can find these marks and they are just trying to get out of the Warranty. Don’t waste your time in theses rip offs!

We purchased 18 Hunter Douglas blinds for our entire home. The sales person in the store was helpful, the person that measured was great. Recently we had 2 blinds that needed repair under warranty. the sales person wasn’t helpful. She charged $50 which she stated was for her time to box and for shipping...(they are in CT) when i picked up the blinds she charged $50 plus $15 for shipping payable by cash or check only. WOW that is not customer service or truthful service. Careful when you deal with them, nice until the sale is made.

Lacking quality control...

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full
I custom ordered 2 Roman shades from my local Hunter Douglas dealer. Together they cost over $2,000.00. When they were installed, one was fine, but the other was an absolute mess! There were ridges and creases in the fabric which would not come out even after the installer spent time steaming the the entire shade multiple times. It was he who took pictures and remarked that there was something wrong with the shade. Although Hunter Douglas replaced the shade, I wonder why it was allowed to leave the factory in that condition. Aren’t there inspectors that examine products before they are delivered? At the cost of their products, there definitely should be!
