Lack of Accessibility for Persons with Disabilities

Hello, A family and I were at the Astros baseball game on Sunday 9-10-23. I am their family babysitter and midway through the game, the mom and I went to change her daughter. Her daughter, Avery, is 6 years old and has a rare disorder which results in multiple disabilities. We stood in line waiting for the family restroom to become available, as there were grown men in line waiting to use the family restroom ahead of us. We realized that there was only a baby changing table which would not support Avery's weight. We did not want to lay her on the floor either given the conditions of the bathroom. We decided to try and change her in a private area in a hallway but was met by a security guard who was not willing to help us at all. We understood why we couldn't change her in the hallway, but given that there was no other option (as we repeatedly asked the guard for another solution or place to change her and was met with nothing), we would do what we had to do. The man was not empathic in the slightest. His supervisor came over and offered to try and find a place for us. She eventually led us into a private suite where we were able to change her on the floor. It worked for us, but for a venue has big as this stadium and with how many people come in and out of those doors, there HAS to be a better solutions for people with disabilities. It is absolutely unacceptable that we had to fight as much as we did just to give her a little bit of dignity. It is a basic human right to ensure that EVERYONE has access to dignity, accessibility, and privacy in using the bathroom. There is no excuse as to why that is not a reality yet, especially given that there are other disabled people who enter this stadium. I encourage you to consider putting a large changing table in at least one of your restrooms in this stadium. You can do a quick google search to find there are options and there are solutions to things like this. Reach out to me if you have any further questions or concerns, and I hope that you take this inquiry seriously and realize that accessibility is worth fighting for. Thank you. Sincerely, Addy Lindsay

I attended the Astros vs. Nationals on Wednesday, June 14, 2023 and was traumatized because I got hit in the face by a baseball. Thereby, causing my teeth to shift backwards, having surgery and now wearing a splint on my upper teeth. It was just horrible!!! But most of all Im saddened by the fact that the Astros didnt reach out to me first.Sad

My autistic son and his autistic friend were moved out of the seats I purchased and pushed 2 rows back - no reason for yhe change in seats was given. Clearly, the Astros employees need to be trained and not take advantage of quiet autistc young adults. This is the 2nd occurance. Im incredibly disappointed! The gentleman that forced my autistic son and his friend to move out of the seats we purchased to a different row is named Mark and is pictured below. My son showed Mark proof that the seat was his and Mark still forced both young men to move seats. They were not being disruptive as both boys are very quiet.

Pros:
  • Games are fun
Cons:
  • Autistic people are not treated with respect

Preferred solution: Astro employees need to be trained as this is the 2nd incident. Do the Astros owners players and coaches not believe autistic people should be treated with respect

User's recommendation: Obviously autistic young adults are targeted. This is the 2nd time this has happened!

Harassment by security at entrance

Trying to enter the center field entrance yesterday my wife was told to go one way to have her bag checked. I was told to go the other because she went that way! I said to the young man go over there! I complied. I asked him again how long do I stand over here? His reply move on, I said again that she had the tickets, another man in light blue shirt got in my face and told me to comply with the young man. I asked him how do I get with my wife if we were in different lines. He told me to move on. I said sir you need to back off and hear me he told me to back off and move on. We have never been treated like this going to Astros games at Minute Maid or the Dome. It was most shocking to be treated in such a manner. We were confused and just trying to get an answer in order to see a ballgame. The two gentlemen must have had a bad encounter prior. Made for a most unpleasant visit to Minute Maid.
