Sneaky ripoffs
They lead you to believe that u r still under contract and on a budget and then they sock it to u with price. They remind me of the cell phone companies with the untruths. And i was a customer for 3 years they sucked us in and then socked it to us!!!!!!
They wouldn’t answer a simple question I asked.
I called Hoffman today, on Saturday and I had a general question, the lady said this is for emergency only, call back and ask your question on Monday. Outrageous.
Ok until recent
Currently dealing with property damage that occurred on my last delivery. Have received no communication from anyone regarding status, etc.
Seems they don't care enough about being at fault. I will be filing a complaint with BBB, and possibly a police report if they do not respond.
I will also be canceling services if nothing is done. A bit of a shame, considering they were good up until recently.
Hoffman RIPS you off on Price
No one should ever do business with these guys. They uplift the price of Fuel on an auto delivery plan 1.25 over the current price of Propane.
Then when you complain they give you some BS Story. Complaint has been filed with State agency responsible for Price gouging. They are the worse kind of business people and use threats and other methods to attempt to get you to pay. They are arrogant and should be shut down by any state they are doing business in.
No fine would be enough to charge them. Talking to them does nothing but make one angry and pissed
OUT OF FUEL
PROBLEM: OUT OF FUEL We were notified by realtor this a.m. about cold house, no fuel.
The house is listed with a realtor, after sister passed. I am current on all fuel and service bills, and have been paying bills faithfully, and actually paid about $300, in advance, for furnace service on Oct 19. Friendly service from Jill and Sandy, but never a thought or discussion about stopping service until the house was sold, and would have recommended Hoffman to next owner.
RESULT: Am paying a premium for their error to add interim fuel over the weekend, and again when they do a normal delivery on Monday. Very disappointed.

Price is outrageous Co is ripping people off.
Over charging
I left Hoffman this year after many years of having them as an oil provider. I don't know what happened last year,but I was constantly overcharged for the oil that I received AND ran out of oil twice in the coldest months of the year.
At one point they charged me for more gallons than my oil tank holds. Needless to say I have moved on from them and would advise anyone else who uses them to do so too! Prior to last winter, I had never had a problem with them. I wonder if there is someone new in charge.
When I was contacted by them to renew my contract this year, I explained why I was not going to renew and the lady on the phone did not seemed concerned at all!
Another reason to move on...... their employees are clearly not at all invested in the company.
Ran out of oil
House is cold the oil tank is empty I called customer service and they sent a serviceman to check, yes sir the tank is empty I'll put 20 gals.in it should last till the truck gets here, great the house is warm again. If I get charged for the 20 gals.
why didn't I get a metered ticket, I can get a metered ticket at the gas station and I know I got 20 gals. I don't know if I got 20 or 16 gals and paid for 20

Ceiling not followed
I have been a customer for Mandy years with contracts always paid on time a faithful customer . Had oil delivered this passed winter & was charged the highest going rate . I always took the plan that you pay more but if the rate drops u pay that rate when question they tod me that the rate was higher that day I see I may be getting a new furnace soon but not with Hoffmanthis is sad that they take advantage of seniors.they gave me a$30 credit but on $ 800 I don't think this was fair treatment f or a good customer .
Price gouging my 87 year-old Mom
My widowed mother, a Hoffman customer for over 60 years, recently showed me an oil bill from 9/12/13 charging $4.449/gal!!!
One day earlier I had a delivery for $3.42 from their competitor.
On calling for an explanation, Hoffman explained "we do not price our oil according to our competitors" and "we charge our posted price"...
These folks used to be an honest local company but they were bough by greedy PE guys who prey on old ladies who don't have a way to check what the right price is and are too trusting...
STAY AWAY FROM THESE ROBBERS!!!! RUN!!!
Hoffman Fuel rip-off in CT
Warning! For anyone who is considering using Hoffman Fuel in Danbury Connecticut for your oil service BEWARE!
They will find any way they can to over-charge and under-deliver.
What they did to me: they delivered oil 2 days before the budget period ended which caused my bill to increase by 400%, they did not provide furnace service because their schedule was overbooked even though I paid for the service, and lastly, when I shopped around I discovered that I could get the same service from a competitor for a thousand dollars less per year. They are not to be trusted!!!
