Verified ReviewerBeware of Local Boatyard Overcharging and Lack of Communication
As a boat owner, I never imagined that I would find myself in a situation where I would need to share my story on social media to gain attention and potentially save others from falling victim to unethical business practices. However, my recent experience with a local boatyard, Hinckley Yacht Services, has left me with no choice but to raise awareness and call for transparency in the service industry.
Hinckley Yacht Services provided me with a written estimate for repair work on my boat, totaling approximately $55,000.
Trusting the boatyard's expertise and professionalism, I agreed to the repairs. To my dismay, upon completion of the work, I received an invoice for a staggering $120,000 more than double the initial estimate.
What's worse, there had been no communication or approval sought for any additional costs during the repair process.
Despite my numerous attempts to contact the boatyard via phone calls and emails to address this issue and seek a resolution, they have remained unresponsive and have not provided any explanation for the sudden increase in charges. As it stands, my boat remains in their possession, and I am unable to use it or have it released.
The reason I am sharing my story on social media is to warn other boat owners about my experience
- Work is similar to other boatyards
- Do not deliver on time and overcharge
Preferred solution: Price reduction
User's recommendation: be cautious when seeking repair services. Transparency, communication, and ethical business practices are crucial in any industry, and it is disheartening to encounter a situation where those values seem to be absent.
