Bad Taste Experience

My family, a party of 6, showed up at 11 am on a Saturday. We were told that they could not seat us because the maximum amount in a party is 5.

We would need to split and sit separately. Well, I was with my husband and my son, joined by my brother, sister-in-law, and my nephew. So we would need to sit as separate parties of 3. I kindly pleaded with the seating hostess to please allow us to sit together as we were gathering to be together as a family.

The simple answer was no. It was repeated that this was not their policy. My husband decided that he would sit with our son and I would sit with my brother, etc. It took over 30 minutes to be seated when the restaurant had just opened and about half the restaurant was available for seating.

We were assured that it would be allowed for us to pick up the tab, one tab. Only to be told, or rather read the riot act: you will need to pay on 2 separate bills, 2 separate servers; you may not get up from your table to visit the other table; you may not share or pass plates from one table to another. The attitude was not acceptable. We were there to spend money on our meal and made to feel like we had done something wrong.

I should mention that my husband and I have frequented Hillstone of Coral Gables, FL. We have always had a positive experience—from the quality of the food to the friendly service—we have nothing negative to say. However, this one day of animosity and matter-of-fact demeanor from the servers left a very bad taste for our return to Hillstone any time in the future. I have shared my experience with friends and co-workers.

I don’t believe that anything will come of this post.

This is a popular restaurant and it does well. One unhappy customer will not make them concerned—unfortunately.

User's recommendation: Avoid going to the restaurant if you have more than 4 people in your party. If you are one over 5, go elsewhere. Don’t bother with the arrogance!

That’s ridiculous. I’d have left a tip only on your husband/son’s check and on your way out the door told the servers they can “share”.

I live in Aventura and have frequent your Houstons in North Miami and as you remember many years ago there was a murder in your parking lot and that was with Valet service.

You are leaving my life partner and your company in a very vulnerable situation.
