Poor customer service

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full

I have to give Highmark the LOWEST of marks for accessibility and access to customer service thru online or telephone member services. I am a new member thru work, and they find it very difficult to mail info needed (the barest possible, likely what they first grabbed whether it fit the need or not) and after calling the member services 5 tries and providing the asked information 7-8 times the automated system simply ignores it and says to call back when I have the required information.

There is NO speaking to a customer service representative when their system fails. It seems they dont care to provide this service to members and this is the way to avoid it.

The same runaround online. LOW MARK FOR LOW SERVICE!

CEOs are running a company that they dont give a *** about their clients. I am paying huge increased premiums two weeks prior to due date.

now I am getting late notices that I am two months past due. What a bunch of *** This company needs to get their act together. On top of hire premiums by 16%. I am also facing increased deductible of $3000 per year that I must meet before this company will pay my medical bills.

this is outrageous uncalled for and a pure example of raping lower income individuals. Now lets talk about calling the customer service hotline. I called several times and am on hold for 30 to 45 minutes plus.

Your customer service is in excusable and lousy. I welcome a call back is a current paying clients at 716-410-****!

They keep calling me and emailing me about medication non-compliance and accusing me of not taking my prescribed meds.

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full

When I switched from CVS and UPMC to Highmark last year, suddenly I started getting calls and emails saying I wasn't taking my meds. I have been faithfully taking my meds for years.

In 2020, I was with a concierge physician and also got a vacation waiver for my four month around-the-world trip pre-pandemic. At the end of 2020 and during 2021, I started to get calls from Highmark about non-compliance. I explained i had more than enough meds and didn't need to call in for new scripts. No one believed me. I was then told I was putting my new ACN PCP in a "bad" place because of my non-compliance.

Literally no one would listen to me that I had more than enough meds and was taking them faithfully. Today a friend said it was all about Medicare reimbursement and that I was costing Highmark money by not renewing my meds through Medicare.

CVS never asked me if I had Medicare. I always gave them my Highmark card when they asked about insurance. So suddenly it's my fault CVS didn't bill Medicare?

Perhaps Highmark should apologize to me for assuming I'm somehow at fault. I'm frigging 70.

So of course I have Medicare. Sheesh.

My husband who is a employee of arconic worldwide in Whitehall Michigan, had us all covered my son myself and himself as he's been paying for this coverage they needed proof later 6 months after we've had Insurance of our marriage we faxed a marriage certificate then they tell us we need a marriage after David we waited 7 days for them to send that the mail we feel better twice he went to arconic human resource department and have them fax directly to Blue Cross Blue Shield Highmark of Michigan. They have received the faxes but they tell me quote" it's going to take time to get into the system to update".

On the 9th of November they received the fax in their system which was faxed the Thursday prior to the 9th that was the second fax of proof this is been going on for 25 to 30 days and my husband is still paying for coverage for me I cannot receive any prescriptions I asked your customer service reps on the phone what does it take to get me covered? They told me it takes one of them that answers that phone to put in the information into the computer there is no separate department for that and they are very understaffed will that is not my problem I have not had life-saving medication in 19 days!!!

Refund of payment

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full

On 6/10 and 6/11, I called Highmark to verify an acceptable place for the type of shots my daughter, needed for her trip abroad. I was given wrong information as to where to get the shots so that the cost of the shots would be covered.

After my daughter going to two different locations and being told the shots were not covered, she got the shots at the Minute Clinic, and had to pay for the shot. When we contacted Highmark, we were told they had made an error and we would be reimbursed the amount we had paid out of pocket. We were told this by Tory on 6/22/2016 (we still have the voicemail). We were told to send the claim to Highmark, and we would be refunded the claim amount.

We received a claim form (after I called and spoke to Amanda S on 7/25/2016), dated 7/26/2016, and submitted it 8/11/2016. On 12/27/2016, I again called Highmark and asked about the claim (spoke to Amanda V.) and was told to resubmit the information, which I did via fax. I called again on 2/10/2017 and spoke to Kirsten. She called me back to inform me the check was being sent.

I called again on 3/2/2017 and spoke to Edwin, who informed me the check had been sent to the Minute Clinic. I told him I was tired of waiting, to send me the check, and Highmark could work out the difference with the clinic. I also told them they could send me interest on the claim, which would be the case if the roles were reversed, and planned to file a complaint with the insurance commission if my situation was not immediately resolved. I was told someone would call me back first thing 3/3/2017 (which didn't happen).

A call was placed again 3/5/2017, and this time I spoke to Bill.

He informed me it was an "open case" that Courtney was working on, and she would call me 3/5 or 3/6. I have not heard back from Highmark as of today, 3/10/2017.

For such a small "non-profit" company, they sure do have some big problems. And now it's worse since they are trying to get into the hospital network end of insurance.

They should have just stayed on the insurance side. Good luck trying to get this resolved, you won't win as they have an entire group of lawyers who pour over every piece of paper they send out and will fight you to the end.

Highmark's ineptitude

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full

I have had to comtact Highmark (Highmess, rather) on at least 6 different issues ranging from my new plan(after they discontinued my old plan) to 3 different claims issues. I am a nurse for 40 years, so I know the system well. I own a business and pay my own premiums, a tidy sum for a high deductible plan with diminishing benefits. It took 2 months and literally hours on the phone for them to send me documentation of my new plan. After several agents assuring me I had the correct plan, I received several bills for a plan I did not elect. More time trying to untangle that. Then finally a card with the correct plan. I paid my premium for 2 months and they are now double billing me for "adding on" 2 more months! I dread making the calls to this company. The wait times are ridiculous, and in the end, I can't believe anything they tell me , as the information given to either myself or my insurance agent has been universally inaccurate.Oh, and don't bother going to a Highmark Store to speak to someone face to face. I tried and was told no one there can access the system to check on anything. Seriously?! Regarding claims, worse yet. I had some testing done. My plan clearly stated I had no co pay if I used a tier one facility, which I did. I was billed for the whole amount. When I called I was told I could appeal. I actually had to formally appeal for payment of a service that was clearly a covered service and in my contract. I had to waste my time on this nonsense, and ultimately "won" that appeal. What I was told by the rep was that their system did not have the same info as my booklet. I had to prove to them what they sent me!!!!!Then my husband had a claim they denied saying he had no coverage. He had been a client for over 30 years! Again, after time on the phone dealing with ineptitude, they acquiesced that, oh yes, he does have coverage after all!! There is more, but you get the idea. I hear the same types of concerns from my patients daily. In the past few months I have had to appeal/fight for services we paid for. I have never encountered a company with so little regard for their customers, and so little accountability , integrity and tranparency. Shame on them. I do suggest that as a consumer it is important to be persistent and appeal all denials if you know you are right. I, however have had enough."I've had all I can stand, and me can't stands no more"...Popeye...I will soon be kicking "Highmess" to the curb and joining an ACA exempt health sharing ministry. (Samaritan ministries) There are other options. Just say "NO" to exhorbitant premiums and lousy service! In a way I am grateful for their ineptitude, as it forced me to do some soul -searching and look for a better way. Blessings,RAC

Took payment but canceled plan

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full

I went through the process of setting up my plan and made my first payment. The lady on the phone told me that I had to pay a certain amount but what I actually had to pay was $3 higher.

I did not know why they had me pay an amount that was $3 short and I thought that I was paid up. They canceled my account for "failure to pay" and I did not know until after the February 1st deadline. I did not have any notices that I didn't pay the full amount or that they would cancel my account for any reason. They will not open the plan until the healthcare.gov marks it as good but healthcare.gov will not mark the plan good until Highmark activates the plan.

So I'm without insurance for another month. I would not recommend Highmark.

Highmark is a small player in a big player market. They are trying to compete against the big boys, and their services/rates have taken a nose dive over the last few years.

The terminate the workers but keep the costly higher ups. Pick a different insurer, you'll be much happier.

Highmark Didn't Activated my Plan

I bought a new plan from Highmark which was suppose to be activated from 01/01/2016. And today it is 01/14/2016 and till now I am not in their system. And looks like it is going to take much longer.

I made the payment for the plan December, and I specifically asked the lady that I have appointments schedule during the first week of January, so is it ok and she said" yes, I can use my old ID card". And when I visited my doctor's office, my insurance showed that it is terminated. Even for my medications I had to pay out of pocket. I also had an outpatient procedure for which they were charging me as a self pay patient.

The reason for all these issues is my profile is showing as "inactive". I don't mind waiting for an ID card, but atleast my profile should be active or it should be showing "under process".

Highmark Delaware Policy cancelation Notice

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full

I have been a client of BCBS - now Highmark for about 30 years. Just received a letter telling me my policy will be canceled as of December 31, 2015.

No reason why. Last year I received the letter from them telling me I was grandfathered in. I have a very good policy and I am paying $522 per month. In fact, I have spent hundreds of thousands with this company and I have never been sick.

I cannot believe that they can just cancel my policy without explanation. It is outrageous. I have been responsible and paying to this horrible company for years and I believe that I have provided this company with an ample consideration. I should not be now dropped.

I do believe that I have an implied contract at least and Highmark should not be able to exit this contract.

In the alternative, they should pay back all the money I spent all this years.

This company absolutely does not care about their customers and should not be allowed to do this to their customers

Beware of their fine print, I am currently in contact with the (BBB) concerning Highmark. they are currently leaving me with a bill from St.Elezibeth hospital over an e.r.

visit, their excuse for not paying my e.r. co-pay is that since I wasn't dieing or admitted they weren't going to cover my co-pay. UH hello? Isn't that why we go to the e.r.

because we are unaware of our medical conditions?

I mean even EBOLA is camouflaged with flu like symptoms. Just be careful is my suggestion if considering coverage.

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full

I signed up on Healthcare.gov for January. Was mistakenly signed up for February.

Called marketplace and they fixed immediately. Told me to call Highmark and fix with them. Tried to pay before Christmas, but they told me to wait until after, I would be in their system correctly by them. After Christmas, told me to wait until after New Years.

Then I was told, Jan. 6. I was told that day that it was in. No card two weeks later, told wasn't in but being put in manually.

As of Jan. 20, still no coverage.

I asked for half of my premium back, but was only given option of take what I got, or start coverage in February.

I am in the same boat! They dropped my county for 2015, but every county around me is still covered!

My PCP who is an employee at a Highmark owned hospital suggested that I lie and change my address to a friend's address who is 3 miles away and in the coverage area!!! I had regular Medicare for years and decided to switch to an Advantage Plan with Highmark for 2014, after all I go to their owned and operated hospital anyway for most of my care. I think this was a way to drop me because my medications cost $41,000 a year, I refused to fill out their survey asking how much income I have, what all my diagnosis are and what doctors I go to (I even complained to Medicare about this survey that they kept demanding fill out), I refused their free nurse practitioner visiting my house (I see the PCP 4 times a year and if I need to report something I call the PCP), and when my cardiologist left as an employee of a Highmark owned hospital and went to UPMC Mercy, I went with him for cardiology. I truly believe that since I didn't play their little game they dropped the county from coverage to get rid of me.

And then get this! I thought, 'Well if you don't want to pay $41,000 a year on me' (which Medicare are the ones paying, insurance companies just contract to manage Medicare patients) I thought I'll just sign up with their Part-D Drug plan.

The day I signed up for the Highmark Drug Plan for 2015 I get a call the next day that the drug plan has now been dropped from the county for next year!!! At this point I said to *** with it, signed up with Coventry and am moving all my care to UPMC Mercy.

Keep increasing the rate and decreasing the benefits

Every year the rate increases with highmark, however we poor people don't get income increases, the the low lifes of highmark every year decrease what is covered with doctor visits, laboratory tests and prescriptions, the co pays keep increasing, even a co pay for going to the facility and getting a test, you pay a co pay for the test and then get a bill for use of the facility, even my doctor agreed they are nickle and diming the poor people, the insurance and pharmacy companies are the wealthiet companies in the united states, and the government allows it.

Highmark is simply a black hole for your money. They screw their own employees the exact same way (and more) that they do for their 'customers'. Just like every other company in the USA, they continue to 'outsource' services as well as hire immigrants to replace the natives.

Every time that any union tried to get involved through the years, the union would simply 'go away'.

I've had the same experiences with HighMark. I need to go to a chiropractor beceause of a car accident a few years ago. The co-pays are insane! I get individual co-pays for the visit alone, and then for everytime my chiropractor even toughes me! It seems that I have to pay more in co-pays than what gets covered. Now HighMark is trying to put limits on visits. I now have no idea what to do.
