Great family and great farm!
I was an employee at this farm for over a year and LOVED every second of it. The Sykes are very knowledgeable, and have very high end horses and a very high end farm.
Heated barn, automatic waterers, bedding to help control smell. The horses are very well cared for, and Gay taught me so much about horsemanship and the care they require. She ensures that the barn is tidy, and horses revives their supplements as needed. I was never cheated out of my money or hours, and I was gifted things for holidays that I worked and my birthday.
The property is absolutely beautiful, rolling hills, large fenced in areas with an indoor and outdoor riding arena. Its been about 8 years since I worked for the Sykes, but I miss it all the time. When my mother passed, I quit working and moved out of state. Gay kept in touch with me afterwards and checked in on me to make sure I was handling everything okay.
Ill always recommend this barn.
Also, how terrible to call someone out on how they look or procedures they may get? Regardless of your hatred towards that person. To stoop down and call someone names and degrade them by the way they look is middle school crap.
Grow up, and move on. If you dont recommend the place then thats one thing, but to go to that level just shows immaturity.
Beware High Meadow Farm and Gail Sykes, Lowell MI
Shes a phony and a fake, does not pay ppl that work for her ridiculous demands, wayyy over charges her boarders as she short changes them on bedding and feed. She actually tells her employees not to tell that they can get the same or better care at a fraction of the price!
Do not waste your time or money dealing with this imposter! She will make her employees take your horse thru dangerous slippery hills when the weather is bad just to keep her "barn" clean,,,, then talk about the morning employee that is drunk all the time!

How true the statement is about Gail Sykes moral compass. *** poor lady.
She talks about everyone being family. Then cheats their hours and doesn't pay. If we were family, then why did you screw us? Family doesn't screw family.
She thinks because she has money that she can be a *** and put on a good show. She's fake as a 3$ bill.
I worked for Gail Sykes for 1 month. The above statement is true.
Gail Sykes talks badly about her boarders behind their backs to the employees. She has no morals and her character is terrible. I worked for 1 month and never got a dime from her. I quit and filed a claim for wages with the Michigan Wage and Hour Division for the $442 she owed me for unpaid wages.
She is a thief and cheats her employees on wages weekly.
I wish I would have done my homework on her before I took the job. Potential employees and boarders beware.

As a former employee of the Sykes & a horse person for 40 years, I can honestly say I've never been or worked at a nicer facility. The horses are always a top priority.
The boarders are some of the nicest people I've met, and are fully aware of what they have at this farm! The Sykes themselves are some of the nicest employers I've worked for.
You are part of the family when employed by them! I can assure you this person is just disgruntled, angry, & maybe even mentally challenged!

The Sykes are compassionate, wonderful people. The "drunk" you refer to is an awesome, loyal and hard-working employee.

Well, I can't let it go, I have to put my two cents in here, because I am involved... which will become clear in a moment, but first~

am the now sober "drunk" referred of in the bashing review. I owe my recovery to Sykes and the great support of all the boarders. I can't thank them enough. Now, to get some facts straightened out.
In 15 years..I was NEVER asked to withhold any information from the boarders. Come on they are not ***, they know there are cheaper places to house their horses, they have high quality horses, they want them in a high quality place with people taking care of them with "ownership kind of care". Safety of the horses and employees is top priority yes closely followed by keeping the barn looking nice.
I can't think of any job I'd enjoy more, so I can see me there until my body can't do it anymore. I suggest the person who worked at High Meadow and wrote the review~ gets some help.
I was an employee of Gails and anyone who talks down or bad of this incredible woman is ignorant and has some serious issues. Gail cares for those horses more than anyone I've known.
She is intelligent and has been in the industry long enough to have the knowlwdge and resources to ensure quality. She is 100% devoted to her boarders, horses and employees and never NEVER asked anything of her employees that would endanger anyone or any of those horses. We'd hand walk every single one of the 10 horses at her facility up and down the aisle when the weather was bad.
I love her and what she lives for. I loved working for her and would recommend her to anyone who is looking for someone at her level.
As one of ***'s (very happy) employees I can assure you that none of this is accurate. All of ***'s boarders are wonderful people who ADORE the woman, and every moment of her day is used to assure every horse is well cared for and happy.
All of her long time employees are very happy and paid on a routine schedule.
As for the "drunk" employee, let me clarify that she is a wonderful lady that *** helped through REHAB and did everything in her power to take care of her. Gail is by far the best employer I have had and she loves her horses.
