Haus Merkel German Shepherd Dog Review from Fort Worth, Texas

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full

Our experience with Dyann was awful. We were first-time German Shepherd owners and thought we had done all the research that we needed to do.

We found three breeders that we thought were reputable. She talked us into getting one of her puppies instead of another breeder we were going to look at stating he had bad practices. My husband went up there to view the animals and saw they all lived outside and in dirty pins. The first dog she sold us $2,500 was very ill he got sick on the way home and had black diarrhea and vomiting for 4 days as well as he did not urinate once.

We called Dyann multiple times a day leaving voicemails asking what should we do. She never returned a single phone call it wasn't until we had to leave a voicemail threatening to drive back up there and return the dog or contacting our attorney that she finally emailed us back stating for us to bring back the dog. We brought back the dog and asked for our money back, she stated she had already spent our money and was not going to give us any money back because she did not have any. She offered us a new dog.

My husband picked up the new dog for the same amount, he had one testicle and was also sick when we brought him home. He has the worst temperament, he cannot be around any other dogs or humans we have to have a muzzle on him when we are out even though he has gone through 3 different obedient Schools. He was released from two because of his temperament. Both dogs had a rancid awful smell, we had to take him to the Groomer's twice and it still did not get rid of the smell.

It took more than 4 months to get his paperwork in with her stating she was having personal issues and was unable to. This is a puppy mill not a reputable breeder all of her dogs are outside in the heat in the dirt and she does not socialize them. Her health guarantee is a joke we took it to our veterinarian who laughed and stated no reputable vet would even diagnose a dog with hip dysplasia before the age of 2, yet her health disclaimer States if your dog gets hip dysplasia before the age of one you can bring him back . Our dog is still sick, we've had him for 7 months.

Currently he is on 3 different medications. Get a dog from somewhere else!

Resolved: DO NOT DO BUSINESS WITH VOM HAUS MERKEL

Updated by user Mar 03, 2016

I am happy to report that all paperwork has been completed as requested. Further, it appears that much of this may have occurred as a result of poor communication as opposed to deliberate negligence.

I would add that we LOVE our German Shepherd puppy and I do think that Ms. Merkel's decades of careful breeding has given us the best opportunity to have a healthy dog with a hoped for long life.

Original review Feb 16, 2016

I am writing in regard to Vom Haus Merkel German Shepherds , located in Dallas, Texas.

Sadly, once in a while you find yourself dealing with an utterly unethical, unprofessional and untrustworthy person in a business relationship. Such has been the case with owner/sole-proprietor Dyan Merkel.

In 2014, I found Vom Haus Merkel German Shepherds while trying to locate a respectable area breeder. My concern was to insure a solid, documented health history for a puppy that we wanted to purchase and raise.

Having owned numerous dogs throughout my lifetime, I was familiar with what every professional does. They provide a Bill Of Sale, and an AKC registration information to the purchaser. That is precisely what was promised in our conversations with Ms. Merkel. That is precisely what has NOT every happened with Ms. Merkel.

We met with Ms. Merkel in her home (where she actually raises her dogs) located in Dallas, Texas. She explained that the cost for a puppy would be $ Two-Thousand, Five Hundred Dollars. While that was a lot of money for us, we felt that the long-term benefits of a healthy puppy would make it worthwhile.

In October of 2014, a litter was born and after several visits to Ms. Merkel’s home, we picked picked out a female puppy that we named Leyna. In November 2014, I took a number of photographs of the puppies at her home for Ms. Merkel to use.

Finally, In December 2014, Ms. Merkel told us that Leyna was old enough to go home with us. Weeks passed and I telephoned Ms. Merkel and causally asked when we would receive the registration as promised. Ms. Merkel always had an excuse. She was swamped. She was under the weather. She was waiting on paperwork from Germany. Etc. Nonetheless, I kept things low-key and friendly checking in via e-mails.

In May of 2015 and in response to another inquiry, Ms. Merkel e-mailed me to ask if Leyna was “Ben’s daughter?” She said her brain was "fried." She also advised that she had received Ben’s AKC number. I replied and confirmed Ben was the correct dog. A week later, Ms. Merkel e-mailed to say she had not yet registered the puppies and she would advise me when that had been done. We never heard back and so a month and a half later, I again e-mailed Ms. Merkel and expressed my concern about the lack of follow-through. Ten days later and still no response of any kind, I e-mailed once again asking to know when I could come by and pick up the paperwork. This is now seven months after we picked up our puppy.

Finally, on December 08, 2015, I e-mailed Ms. Merkel for the last time. I had contacted the AKC who indicated that the litter had been registered. I specifically told Ms. Merkel I wanted a Bill Of Sale and the AKC registration number. Her website also promises a “written guarantee.” We have never received any such thing.

As of February 16, 2016, she has never responded by e-mail or telephone.

This breeder has demonstrated that she is unprofessional, unethical and unreliable. Understand that while she promises a documented bloodline with her dogs, I have NO way to even show I purchased my German Shepherd from her, and there is NO way I even know her actual bloodline. Ms. Merkel cannot be trusted. She has made multiple excuses and does not return e-mails, unless it suits her purposes. In fact, the only way in which I have been able to speak with her is when I have called her cell phone.

There are reputable breeders out there. Dyan Merkel and Haus Vom Merkel is NOT one of them! I paid $2500.00 for a puppy (that I love to death), but could have been bred from two strays for all I know. Interestingly, she requested cash payments (which I documented in the checks I wrote for the cash).

I will be doing additional follow through with the BBB and the AKC, although clearly the AKC has little concern over who displays their logo as an advertisement.

Same thing happened to us. We got a GSD from her last year.

The first one we brought home got sick on the way home, didn't *** for 4 days and had diarrhea the entire time.

Took him back, got another who had one testicle and was also sick. She runs a puppy mill not a reputable breeder.

Haus Merkel - Dog Review

I had a very bad experience with Mrs Dyan Merkel.

We bought a German shepherd male. We did the hips and elbows OFAs cause we noticed that he would just cry and cry like if he was in pain. Well we got the results the dog has hips dysplasia and elbow dysplasia grade 1 on right and grade 3 on left also he has done decease and I let Mrs Merkel know because we did sign a contract that gives us guarantee for a replacement puppy for the same price. What Mrs. Merkel said "ITS NOT THE END OF THE WORLD" "that the dog has just a little arthritis that all and his going to live a long time"

I'm letting you know be careful if you are wanting to purchase a puppy form this breeder. She is not honest with her contract and doesn't respond for any generic sickness of the dog.

I DON'T RECOMMEND NO ONE TO GO THROUGH WHAT WE WENT THROUGH.

Same thing happened to us. She sold us a sick dog he vomited and had diarrhea for 5 days the first 5 days we owned him.

When we called to ask her what we should do she didn't answer our calls or emails. Finally after leaving a voicemail threatening her with our attorney she emailed us back and stated to bring the dog back. She then gave us another dog who was 6 months younger had only one testicle and was also sick. He has the worst temperament he can't be around any other dogs and he hates all people except for people in our household.

It took her more than 4 months to give us the required paperwork. It's a puppy mill.

Ft Meyer puppy buyer proven wrong on all issues

The complaint filed earlier by a Germen Shepherd buyer from Ft. Meyer Florida has given false information regarding her puppy purchased from Haus Merkel.

Documents proving the incompetency of her vets in regards to hip dysplasia and dental issues have been evaluated by top veterinarians in these fields. After Haus Merkel waited to receive these veterinary studies for 2 months the new studies were done and documented. Haus Merkel responded immediately to all 200 emails sent by buyer in less than 4 months time.

All documentation can be found by emailing hausmerkel@***.com copies from the vets concurring that the dog does not have crippling hip dysplasia or dental issues to warrant surgeries as presented by the buyer.

Haus Vom Merkel

Absolutely devastated after our purchase of top pick male Putz puppy from Dyan Merkel. This 4,000$ top pick male puppy at 5 1/2 months of age has severe cow hocks, underdeveloped rear, cronic limp, radiograph view that suggest early signs of HD, skin allergies, teeth issues !

After confronting this breeder of so called merit we have been given no support or apology! This puppy is so far from Superb Quality by German standards its ridiculous, and this Breeder of merit when pushed has no ethics nor excepts any responsibility. It is my hope that possible buyers review her puppy contract and understand what they are signing before they do and re-consider! It is my hope that they understand this breeder feels cow hocks are exceptable and already has a posted note from her local vet in regards to this horrible Breading Fault of confirmation, on her website...Google cow Hocks.

It is my hope that possible buyers become aware that she breeds her females back to back which is considered to be puppy mill breeding and that she claims to be broke! It is my hope that people look for an ethical breeder that truly cares for this breed and does it for the love not the money.

She is breeding dogs that have severe genetic issues and this simply is unacceptable......The buyers suffer, but most of all the puppies do.

Dear anonymous....You have No idea what the original buyer chose to do with the top pick Putz puppy so why would you write this? True, at a later date after this original article was posted a replacement puppy was offered if I spent $700 dollars shipping my $4,000 puppy back to Dyan....A two day drive to Texas was not possible at that time.

My decision in the end was to refuse the replacement because why in the world would I want another dog from a breeder I was so unhappy with? I simply wanted a refund, and to return the dog....This was Not offered at any time! Numerous ANONYMOUS individuals reached out to me and informed me of her kennel set up, and dog care begging me Not to return the dog .

In the end I made the decision to keep the dog who at this date Still has Rear issues, horrible on going skin issues and an in correct ***....He is loved by his family, well cared for and I am happy to see his mother is hopefully retired from breeding. I would never recommend this Breeder after my experience but you go right on ahead and post what you would like to post OK!!!!

All vet records were finally obtained after requesting them for months from the above disturbed puppy buyer. The dogs breeder who did offer to take the dog back even though the dog did not have the problems mentioned above. A Replacement (although not required of the breeder) was turned down (as well as knowledgeable veterinary diagnosis for the well being of the puppy) by the devastated puppy buyer.

I had a similar experience with this breeder awhile back and ended up returning my first puppy due to temperament issues. My replacement puppy required a surgery and almost died. I would highly recommend looking elsewhere for a puppy.

Same here, first dog was extremely sick. She said she didn't have our money anymore to return us because she had already spent our 2500.00 it had been 3 days since we purchased him.

Told us to bring him back for trade. New puppy 6 months younger, 1 testicle, awful temperament and has severe allergies.

Haus Merkel German Shepherds

Absolutely pleased with the knowledge and support that Dyan Merkel of Haus Merkel has for German Shepherds. She helps educate all people (even if they bought from other breeders).

She proved that our vets did not do properly positioned x-rays & were not capable of evaluating them. Her knowledgeable veterinarian x-rayed our dog again. She not only did not have hip dyspasia but had OFA good hips!!!!

Our vets said that she needed replacement surgery ($10,000). Without Dyan's help we may have spent the money or had to have her put to sleep according to these Quacks!

Why would a happy customer be writing a positive remark on a complaint site? This sounds like a comment posted by the breeder herself??

I won't post my name but I have seen Dyan Merkel's place years ago and it was pretty awful. Over 20 dogs living on less than 5 acres....3 to be exact. Not to mention the puppies.

Most living in small kennels? Think twice!

Sakina Eyj

I would definately do my homework before purchasing any puppy or dog from Vom Haus Merkel. Research ...Read contract...Be smart and look else where.
