Green Motion Malta Ripped me off!

Green Motion Malta has stolen $2,051 dollars from me! Do not rent form them. When you get there to pick up your car they will ask you if you want to put down a deposit or pay 5 euro a day for insurance. I paid the insurance took the car for 4 days and returned it. I told the guy who inspected the car about a flat tire I got during the rental period. He said I was good to go because I purchased the insurance. 4 days later I received a charge on my credit card for the above amount. I have been trying to get in touch with anyone at all from this company for the past 3 days and it has proven to be impossible! I have read extensive reviews about Ray Bezzina the owner of the franchise. He is a crook@! If you have had a similar experience please contact the MCCAA of Malta. They are getting lots of reports of fraud and are building a case. Please let them know. Here is their number, free phone 8007 **** or on 2395****

Disgraceful charges for "lost" key and 40 euro petrol charge

To Customer Services Operations, Green Motion Car Hire From Peter Ackroyd 25 Parkwood Road - E-mail packroyd@***.com Calverley Leeds LS 28 5PH England Home Mobile SKYPE ID +44 113 2** **01 +44 788 7** **53 PACKROYD Green Motion Malta. 17/100/2013 Complaint 1 40 euro charge for "half a tank" - that amount was enough to fill the car from empty! Complaint 2 Re Mastercard Credit Card 5425 98** **73 4402 Complaint Transaction dated 29th October 2013 for €230 with Green Motion Car Hire. I lost a hire car key. I was forced to pay the above amount, acknowledged as more than the actual cost, but promised that the difference between the above amount and the actual replacement cost would be refunded. This refund was refused when I phoned +356 215 *****. I have since checked and found that A REPLACEMENT KEY WOULD BE CONSIDERABLY LESS. I have still not received the promised refund of the difference between what I paid and the actual cost of the key. Furthermore, I have good reason to believe that the original key I lost was recovered, I believe this for the following reasons. 1] I reported the key lost very near Bugibba Malta, the location of the Green Motion Head Office. Within 10 minutes a lady arrived with what looked like the identical key to the one I had lost. They claimed they had fetched the key from Luqa Airport, where the car is based, about 15+ miles away! 2] The “replacement” key, identical to the one that probably fell out of my pocket on the street, had a phone number to call on the large plastic Green Motion fob. Whoever picked up the key would have been able to phone the company and hand it in. I hope you can action my request, recover the fraudulently obtained payment, and prevent what is clearly fraud and extortion. I have already blocked my card. I was leaving the same day so I didn’t have time to report this matter to the police in Malta. Regards, Peter Ackroyd

Car not available, contract cancelled... no money back! Scam !

I prepaid a rental with Green Motion in Malta, when I got at the airport the local office, they (a kid who barely spoke English) told me my credit card was not working to block the amount of 1,000 Euro necessary to rent, so they forced me to pay for the full insurance, and the card worked! They also charged me 70 Euro for half tank of fuel, probably worth 20-25 Euro. They were unable to provide the car I paid for (with automatic transmission), the only car available was a wreck, dirty inside and outside. After a while they accepted to cancel the contract and my transactions were voided. Except for the prepaid amount, over 250 Euro, which I was unable to claim back from Green Motion. Their customer service is a scam, they don't respond to emails, don't answer the phone. After over 2 months I am still waiting for my money.Never use Green Motion !!!

We too had a problem with Green Motion in Malta - nothing so bad as yours of course, but bad service, and obviously no reply to email sent with our criticisms. Solution: Never use Green Motion and tell other would be users no to as well.

Green Motion hire cars are THIEVES.

I'm English and hired a Green Motion car for use in Malta for 7 full days through Car Trawler comparison site. The agent was Malta Best Car hire. It ruined my holiday. On top of the following 6 issues I alsodescride below how they have purely robbed me. Issues: 1. Car was hired on the basis you get it full of fuel and return it empty. And in the agreement it said "The price per litre charged by the rental agent may be higher than the price at the local service station". But on arrival I found this was 35% EXTRA! Now, it might be I let myself in for this, being stupidly trusting that a large company would not rip me off. But I think it's utterly disgusting and I've informed the Office of Fair Trading in England as they have only recently dealth with other holiday service providers concerning lack of transparency with fees which should be clear and apparent before sale. 2.The Malta Best agent told us the car was new so we gave no thought to get a form showing any damage. But, on reaching the car (which we were directed to rather than shown) I realised there were scratches on all the bumpers and a small dent and marks so I went back to find him. He tried to fob me off saying 'we already know about it'. I had to insist several times before he brought a sheet and filled it in with me. Reading other reviews of Green Motion charging spurious fees for damage that wasn't caused makes me relieved I did this. 3. The Malta Best agent told me ALL the excess deposit needed to be actually withdrawn from my credit card. I'd never experienced this anywhere else, where only a copy of my card was left. Returning home I found this was probably wrong but it left me unable to use my credit card on holiday. 4. I was not allowed to pay the balance for hire and fuel in cash. And nowhere in the documentation was this stated. I had already exchanged currency to cover this so both my holiday finances and my account back home were upset as I was forced to use my debit card. I work on a tight budget and was left with spare currency which would cost me even more money to change back. 5. I was then charged around £4.50 for paying on my debit card. 6. Return was just dropping a key in a box. No one looked at the car with us to check for damage. I felt, and still feel, very insecure about this. Especially due to other reviews. THEN!!!... THEY ROBBED ME ON TOP!!!! It might be said I let myself in for the gross 35% extra charge for fuel even though the agreement lacked any detail of this actual figure. But on top of all that... they overcharged me!!! Here's the maths: The car I hired was the Hyundai i10 with a 35L fuel tank (www.hyundai.co.uk.) Goverment maximum retail in Malta for petrol in March is 1.48 euro (www.enemalta.com) Meaning a full tank = 51.80 euros Adding the disgusting 35% to that = 69.93 euros My hire fee still to pay was 24 euros = Total 93.93 euros. I WAS CHARGED 109 EUROS 15.07 euros MORE than which I owed means THIS COMPANY ARE THIEVES. Other comments I'll make are It's most improbable anyone will use a full tank of fuel in Malta in a week as it's tiny. So the pick up full, return empty agreement is also a scam as the customer pays through the nose then the company gets to keep it and sell it to the next poor customer at the disgusting 35% extra, plus some theft on top. Also 'bring back empty' is the opposite of 'green'! Encouraging customers to burn more fuel so they don't feel they've wasted their money. What I'll do now; On another site where yet another Green Motion customer felt swindled a reply suggested that we can look on the Green Motion website for their regulator and complain to them. It can't alter our individual cases, but might help change things and save others the nightmare. I'm going to contact Citizens Advice in England about the pure theft. They can advise on European problems like this. I've emailed Car Trawler and they were swift to reply and say they're looking into it. So I'll return with their findings or action. I emailed Green Motion but they just repeated the rental agreement to me. Said the deposit from my credit card was pre-authorisation, although that's not what the agent told me. And they made no comment, whatsoever, on the pure theft. This company makes me sick.

Green Motion in Malta is probably the worst rental company I have come accross in the last 20 years. I can relate to all of the comments posted especially in respect to the fact that the company (local franchise) is both dishonest and would seemingly be running a scam.

I am not going to go into the details as most of the problems are very similar to those already mentioned.

What I will say is that if you are going to Malta and want to rent do NOT USE GREEN MOTION. They are absolutely worthless.

A scam

I reserved a week’s car hire on Malta from the 28 February 2013 to the 7 March 2013. I chose Green Motion because of the good rates and for the idea of driving a more ecologically clean vehicle. On arrival at the airport we were not greeted, as promised in the booking conditions by the representative (Chris of raybezzina Car Hire) and had a 20 minute wait before we eventually found him. He then offered us an upgrade and wanted to know if we wished to buy out the excess – which on the upgraded vehicle would be 1500€. I had booked the car hire using my Visa Premier card which also covers any car accidents that would lead to the excess being invoked : I therefore had no need to buy out the excess. I explained this and was set to allow the sum of 1500€ be secured but not used with the same Visa Premier card. The card reader indicated that the transaction was not authorized. The same result happened when the lower sum of 1000€ was used (the sum relevant to the original car booked). Chris then proposed the use of a non-electronic card swiper to secure a sum against parking fines and to take the sum required to buy out the excess which I reluctantly felt obliged to do (44€ original car hire, 75€ for petrol and 70€20 excess buy out – a total of 189€20) – despite the fact that I felt the whole scenario to be a scam, and with grave concerns about the security of a card swiper. I expressed my feelings to Chris at the airport and said I would be contacting his agency at Qawra. On the Monday 4 March we went to the agency in Qawra and expressed our concerns to the people present who then contacted Chris who came to the agency. Apparently the card swiper had also rejected our payment – we wondered why Chris had not contacted us at our hotel to follow up this problem – but surprise surprise the electronic card reader at the Qawra agency did work and the 189€20 could be authorized. This reinforced our feeling that the system was geared up to force us to take the excess. The petrol charge is also abusive – 75€ is a good 15€ more than is necessary to fill up the car we hired. Everywhere else I have hired a car you either return the car with a full tank of petrol, so just paying for the petrol you use, or you pre-pay a full tank of petrol, at advantageous rates, and return the car empty of petrol. Malta is a small island and it would require a lot of driving in a week to use all the petrol in the tank. This is another scam. Our impressions of Malta were greatly tarnished by the poor welcome and the feeling that we have been ripped off.

Oh my! This is so similar to my experience of Green Motion in Malta just a week ago I shudder. It spoiled our holiday there. But you've brought something up I couldn't spot without your post; my credit card was ALSO declined... I thought it might be because the agent said all the deposit would actually be withdrawn... so I spent half an hour on my mobile back to England to organise a larger credit limit. But I already had my own excess insurance and when my card was declined (which it never has been before) the agent tried to sell me their expensive daily insurance. I wonder!

Please read my post too and work out if they STOLE money from you on TOP of the disgusting charges...

Work out how much the fuel would have been by how big the tank of your rental car was and how much the regulated price of fuel at the tank was...

Then add the disgusting percentage (35% in my case). And see if they add up! Even after the filthy 35% they STOLE another 15 euros + off me.

Thieving swindelers!
