Poor Equipment, Damage Lawn Sprinklers
My experience was with the Brantford office.
Once you get on their work list, this company is ruthless for coming to your home, completing work and then expecting you to pay with no prior authorization.
Beyond that, their equipment barely does the job, aerating for example - it must be due to all of the lawn sprinkler heads they damage due to the fact that you get no call to say they are coming.
What a nightmare......this is not a company that I would recommend to anyone for any of their services. For the second year in a row I have called them and told them to stay away next year and any year going forward.
Great Lakes Lawn Care- horrible company
This is the worst company I have ever dealt with. They literally destroyed my lawn, and they would not take responsibility.
Now I have to lay a new sod that will cost me from $ 400 to $500! Very disappointed.
Good at making my weeds strong and healthy.
I hired this company to improve my lawn. Although they showed up and supposedly performed the necessary spraying, my lawn has only got worse since they assumed responsibility for it.
Although the grass in the lawn did improve somewhat, the weeds just took over. Never saw a single dead *** after Great Lakes had supposedly sprayed for them. When I did actually see them spraying my lawn, they ran around so quickly that I doubt they got much of anything on the grass. The weeds just got healthier over large areas of the lawn.
Any attempt to rectify the problem resulted in a respray which resulted in the same problem, that being the weeds prospered instead of dying. Terrible customer service and a lousy product.

Very discouraged with service
I decided this year (2016) to use the lawn care service from Great Lakes Lawn Care. I now realise that this was a mistake on my part. The one thing that I did correctly however, was not paying for the whole service up front at the beginning of the year. I chose to pay as you go, so to speak.
They came out for the first granular application as promised. However, the technician did not bother to me regarding entrance to the property or where to apply as I requested. I accepted this for the first time but let them know that future applications had similar requests attached.
The next application which was supposed to be liquid *** control was not done at all as asked. Firstly, they were at least 2 weeks late, according to their schedule. When they did show up supposedly, they did the application as I sat in the kitchen eating breakfast in full view of the back yard. I didn't see the person do it. I don't know how that happened. The only indication that someone had been here was that there was a bill for services in the mail box. This is the second week since the application and there is no stopping the weeds.
I called them several times to discuss but get no satisfaction. I ask for people to call me, and they call a number that I asked them not to use. I told them on 2 occasions to remove the number they had and gave them the correct number. They still use the number where I cannot be reached. When my wife answers and asks them to phone my cell they do not. This is also the number that I always phone them on.
I have not paid them for the second application. Until I get some satisfaction, I will not be paying them. I don't plan to use their services ever again.

Don't pay up front
I payed for the year and have had several problems. I keep receiving an invoice even though I have called twice and report to them I have paid in full.
I also share a lawn with my neighbor and the agreement was to include his lawn. They have yet to do his side. This is the 4th application. Called to complain and received every excuse you could think of.
They at one point tried to blame me as they had no record of my complaint. How strange? I wanted a refund for not abiding to the contract but that was denied. They said I was being unreasonable.
My advice. Stay away from this business. Do not prepay.
They did refund me a very small portion however I canceled their service and because the manager was so rude they have lost my business.
- I did not receive what was quoted
- Did not provide service i paid for
Not providing service

My main reason for contracting your service was weed control. Fertilizer, overseeding, etc were an added bonus in my eyes. At this time, I have at least twice as many weeds in my lawn as I did last year and at the start of this year. To date, one weed control has been done (on June 1st). That is the last time that I have seen anyone from your company. I was not told to call back for a respray of the weed control when the weeds recovered and became healthy again (which they did after about 4 days). I still have my invoice for that, it only gave some general information and said not to cut or water for at least 3 hrs., and to allow 14-21 days for full effect.
I would like to reiterate that I have had service since June 1st.
I received at some point a phone call from your company wishing to sell me overseeding and aeration. I agreed to this service for a rate of $110.00. The overseeding was done, the aeration was not, I accordingly did not pay the bill. I received a telephone call from you about the bill being past due. I pointed out that the work had not been done, I was told it was “an office oversight” and would be rectified. A week later I received an email in regards to the bill not being paid. I promptly emailed back stated that the work hadn’t been done, and that I had believed this had been dealt with by my telephone call. I received a reply email stating that it was an office oversight, it was too late in the summer to do the aeration. The aeration would be done a mini reseeding in the fall. There would be no charge for the reseeding. A week ago, I received a telephone call from Toby in your collections department about this same bill. I again explained all of the above. He checked the account, saw notes on it confirming what I had told him. He also said that we were seriously overdue for service and that he was going to bring our account to someone’s attention. He asked me to call him back if I did not receive a phone call within a few days.
I did not receive a phone call, however on the 12th of August I received an email stating that you would be out to do weed control and fertilize on the 13th weather permitting, 14th if the weather was bad. The weather was fine both days, no one has shown up, nor did they have the courtesy to call or email. I accordingly called Toby on the 17th, received his voice mail. I left a message and have not heard back.
I received a further email on the 14th advising that someone would be out for grub control on the 17th (yesterday). No one attended. Again no telephone call or email.
Last evening I receive a phone call telling me that someone would be out today to do the weed control and fertilizing. I asked about them not showing last week. The person on the phone had no idea what I was talking about.
Later last evening on the 17th, I receive a further email telling me that they will be out today to do a reseed.
It is now 12:20 p.m., I am anxiously awaiting the arrival of your entire staff to perform fertilizing, weed control, seeding (which I thought was not a good idea with weed control) and grub control.
I do not believe that I have ever been so disappointed in a service.
Email received from Great Lakes at 2:41 p.m.
This is a courtesy notification from Great Lakes Lawn Care to let you know that we will be out to do your Grub Management Aug 19th, weather permitting if not we will be out the next day. We would like to remind you to clean up your yard of any debris or objects that may prevent a complete application. It is very important that this application is watered in within the first 24hrs.
If you need to reschedule this application please call us by 7:00 am tomorrow at 1-80*-661-****.
I think they are just messing with me now.

It seems like they spot spray my lawn for the weeds and miss a lot, dilute the weed control chemical or both as my weeds are strong as ever. I have tried them for about 5 years and each year I noticed that I have an increasing number of weeds.
Not a good trend.
I think they have increased their prices by a lot for the 2020 summer season and there is no way I am continuing as there were still a lot of weeds on my lawn even after asking for a re-spray. This next season, I am going back to doing it myself.
