Great Florida Insurance - Canceled my policythrough Great Florida and they kept $1627.00...

2. Approximately two years ago I needed homeowners insurance for my Florida home, so I contacted Great Florida/Aspen Insurance LLC (broker).

They found an affordable policy with Swyfft Insurance who is also an insurance broker. Swyfft wrote my policy on 7/1/2021 with a company called Clear Blue Specialty Insurance for an annual premium of $1592.00. The next year the premium was increased to $2220.65 which I accepted, and the premium was paid. And as of 7/13/2023 Swyfft changed my HOI provider to Topa Insurance Company and increased my premium to $3506.90/yr.

I tried to cancel my policy in August of 2023 with Swyfft/Topa and was told that they would be keeping 50% of my premium for canceling during hurricane season. I did cancel the policy because the premium was unreasonably high for the extremely limited coverage. Swyfft Insurance LLC did keep $1647.00 of my paid premium, and it will not be refunded. No offer was made to extend my coverage for 5-6 months since they were keeping half of my premium anyway, but I suppose thats how some companies do business?

My issue with Great Florida/Aspen Insurance is that they are knowingly brokering insurance policies that bury a Minimum Earned Premium Endorsement deep in their contract (page 62 in my case) that allows Swyfft Insurance to keep 50% of a consumers premium should you decide to cancel the policy. Remember these two names, Great Florida Insurance/Aspen LLC and Swyfft Insurance. They are not interested in providing you with good coverage at a reasonable price. Just looking for a commission!

Here is the Minimum Earned Premium clause in the Swyfft Policy that supposedly allows them to keep your money if you cancel their policy! b.

If the policy is canceled at the request of the (first) Named Insured: i. If the policy has been in effect any time during the period of June 1 to November 30, the premium charged shall be subject to a Minimum Earned Premium of 50% of the gross annual premium.

Loss:
$1647
Cons:
  • Policies are overpriced and under performing
  • Will keep your premium if you cancel

Preferred solution: Full refund

User's recommendation: Avoid Insurance Brokers Like Great Florida and go straight to the Insurance Company.

5 Stars for WORST service ever!

AI Highlights
  • - The reviewer says Mr. Mintz is hard to reach, will not call back, rushes callers, and makes contradictory statements about computer outages.

Great Florida Insurance in Crystal River, FL.:

Mr. Mintz, is the ruddest person I have ever talked to!

He is the only agent and the owner of this office, and this is the reason he gets away with being such a ***! Don't expect a call back, because he won't call you back. He will rush you on the phone and hang up on you when all you want to know is one single question that wouldn't even take 10 seconds to answer. He tells you lies such as the computers are down, but when you call from another number he tells you the computers were never down.

He will lie saying he never got something, even though it was hand delivered, when he should have just admitted he misplaced the document.

According to him " the customers are NEVER right". People don't waste your time on this Agency!
