I have the worst hair for a American Indian woman & NO one has ever done what Shawnta has done! I've watched the other ladies work their magic and it's ALWAYS BUSY!

Sorry for whoever had a bad expierence but I'm sure that stylist isn't there because these professionals work their best! I'll never go any where else!

Very friendly & they get the job done! Thank you!!

I regret getting my hair done hear. They do a horrible job cutting hair and if you complain the stylist become hostile and if necessary will cuss you out.

Many times fights have broken out in the store and the owner has no control over the salon. They will talk to you anyway they want to and talk about you as if you are not there. I am embarrased for the owner not a safe environment for kids.

They have inappropriate shows on the tvs and do not use proper sanitation techniques on their combs, brushes, scissors etc. Hopefully more salons will open in Smyrna

They cannot cut hair

I came here with the bride to be to get my hair done from my Massachusetts. I have short hair and I was told that they had stylist who specialized in short hair.

She was one of the best apparently, so I decided to give it chance. Upon my arrival I was told by the woman who was suppose to do my hair, that another woman would be doing my hair. I was also told that she is really good at styling hair short hair as well. Long story short I presented a picture to the "stylist" and came out with a whole different cut and style.

I wish I had the before and after. Absolutely horrible. My hair was hard and cut into something totally different.

I ran out of there and had to wash and style it myself. Not to mention that this was day of wedding.

I can't believe that, I have short hair and I'm very happy with my hair.

Teah Ikk

Janet fried my hair! And took six hours to do it!

She destroyed my hair! It has been five months and it is still horrible!

It it's so damaged that I'm paying an insane amount of money to try to repair it instead of cutting it all off! She also took 6 hours to do my hair (just color cut and style)! I even asked her before I sat down if she could be done within 3 hours because I had to be somewhere to be, she assured me she could. It took her almost and hour to get started.

When she finally got to the styling she stopped half way through and started washing another woman's hair! After six hours and before she was even completely finished flat ironing it I had to go. When I looked in the mirror I was devastated, it wasn't even close to the picture I showed her. I let her know I was unsatisfied, she said she tried (not the answer that should come from any professional).

She even still charged me full price!

I'm still upset! Save your money, time, and your hair!!!!!!!!!!!

Graffiti Hair Salon

Every woman does what she can to make herself feel beautiful, especially for a special occasion so when a hair stylist destroys that, it can ruin your whole day and more.

While making plans to take a well-earned vacation, I booked an appointment with a stylist/friend whom I had modeled for on more than one occasion. Modeling jobs are hard to come by in the DC metro area for Black women who choose not to flaunt their body in a thong bikini, so when I met Janet from Graffiti Hair Salon, I was thankful. We came to a verbal agreement that she would provide discounted hair treatments, for using me as her model; she even put my photo on the back of her SUV!

But yesterday when I arrived for my scheduled appointment, things just went from bad to worse. I had requested a Rihanna bob cut (like everyone else these days) and I wanted it sew in not glued. As I walked in Janet told me that she could not sew my hair in that I would have to have the entire head bonded. I reluctantly agreed and we went to the back of the salon to start with a touch up. Her mood was a little strange but I didn’t think that I had caused it.

The relaxer was thoroughly washed out of my hair, so much so that when I stood up the entire back of my sweater was soaked through, including my jeans and underwear. I was able to wring water out of my clothes. No apology was given; I was simply told the cape must have leaked. OK fine. I am not a hotheaded person who easily looses their temper and I believed that Janet was more that just my stylist.

As I sat under one dryer, I hung my undershirt on another so at least I would have something dry to put on since it is December. 45mins later I was taken to the chair for the weave process to begin. As usual a length of track was measure around my head and then something strange happened; instead of parting my hair and applying the glue covered track to my scalp, Janet stuck the track on top of my wrapped hair!?!

I was very confused, but I am not the stylist, and Janet is a friend, she wouldn’t set me up. After three tracks were laid down I asked why she was not gluing the tracks to my scalp, she told me that the style would last longer this way, as the natural oils from my head would not reach the glue and cause it to come loose. OK if you say so.

When she reached the top of my head she realized the she had not combed out any of my hair to cover the last track and proceeded to (very painfully) pull my hair from under the firmly glued track to attempt to cover the last track I could hear and feel my hair ripping. “Do you want it to come across your face?” to which I replied “yes, slightly” I had a magazine open to multiple pictures of Rihanna the entire time, just to show exactly what I was hoping for.

At the end of this ordeal was handed a grease-smeared mirror and told I could better see the cut when I stand up. I paid what was asked of me and gave a 10% tip, less than my usual as my clothes were still wet. I drove home constantly pulling the hair from my face and went into the bathroom. At my clean an clear mirror, I could blatantly see, the very last track that was added to my head, as well as the glue that was used to place it there, which had now turned from black to grey. The pieces of hair that were blocking my vision were angled that way and moving them would expose the weft. I began to cry.

I would be flying out of the country on Saturday to join a friend for the Christmas and New Years holidays, and Janet knew how much it meant to me as we had spoken about it weeks before. Here I stood, looking so terrible with tears rolling down my cheeks. Instead of calling Janet and complaining, I called a friend for comfort. She gave me a number of a previous Golden Scissor Award Grand Prize winner and told me that she could help me.

I called and was told to come to the shop immediately. She sat me down in the chair and gasped with horror as she inspected my head. In her 26years of doing weaves and braids she has never seen such a thing done to anyone. She told me that the glue was very bad for my hair and I had two choices, I could leave it in or take it out, I asked her to please remove it. Her and another team member used two and a half cans on oil sheen on my hair to remove the glue and tracks. She then braided my own hair, that Janet had told me was impossible to do, and sewed in a complete weave. I stirred away from the Rihanna bob and went for a head full of curls instead.

Today I called Janet four times, and every time, I was told I had just missed her or she was not available. I finally reached her on her cell and kindly asked for a refund of my money. “No I’m sorry, are you serious?!” was the response I received. She told me that I had not giving her the opportunity fix anything that I was dissatisfied with and the style of bonding that she did was typical for people with very short hair. I never lost my temper I just felt the tears coming back to my eyes; I asked her three times if she would give me my money back to which she three times responded “No”.

Unfortunately I cannot have my image removed from her vehicle, because I gave her written permission to do whatever advertising she wanted with my image. So when you see the GOT HAIR tag in front of you, please note that the look in my eyes is not one of sultry seduction but that of great sorrow and pain for a stylist who ruined my Christmas.

I agree with everything that has been said about janet over the yrs. I actually was employeed at grafitti several yrs.

back befor she became the owner. Racardo and camille was awsome but that janet was real messy :x even her work. She didn't even have a license to do hair at the time. I'm not sure about now but even still having a license does not mean you can do hair.

Some stylist have weak area but she is weak all around.

She always gossip about the clients aswell as the staff. Get it together janet..

I visited Grafitti Hair yesterday, 3/2/12 and was very disappointed. First, I had a 9:00 am appt., benefit of the doubt...I figured I would be out of there by 12:00 noon...that didn't happen.

I have short hair and wanted my hair like the Meagan Goode style. My requested services were: a relaxer, moisturizer treatment, a rinse and a cut..my total bill=$202.00. No, they do not post the prices publicly. I was told my total figure at the time of payment when it was time for me to leave.

***, for that price, I could have gotten a full weave. This will never happen again. Once Grafitti Hair left Brown Station Road and moved to Main Street in Upper Marlboro, the servicesa and the salon decor has went down tremendously. $60.00 for a touch-up, $30.00 for a rinse...I mean, I know they need to make the atmosphere more presentable and it's obvious there's some much needed construction in there, but there's no reason to overcharge the customers.

They're only in business because of the name, not the quality of service they provide.

And whoever Janet is, she must be a screw-up because I've seen several "negative" comments about her. Wow!

I'll NEVER be returning to this hair salon, and definitely not referring anyone either. horrible.

Hello All! This is Janet, the owner and principal stylist of Grafitti Hair Salon and I just wanted to take the time to respond to the malicious attack in the previous comment by Brit ish (Kadija). The customer, Kadija had been a previous client of mine at Grafitti Hair Salon. In fact, She modeled for me in a photo shoot of which I gave her free photos that were worth a tremendous amount of money. Following the photo shoot, there have been many times I have given her free and discounted prices on various hair styles. On December 11, 2007, Kadija came into the salon requesting to get tracks sown into her hair. Seeing that her hair was less than an inch long, I explained to her that this would not be possible and that she would have to get them glued onto her hair. She agreed to this procedure of which I explained to her carefully. Her total charge should have been $200.00 but I charged her $135.00 and she gave me a $15.00 tip. Before leaving the salon, I made sure she was very satisfied with her hair and she did assure me that she was very pleased. A couple days later, she called me on the telephone requesting her money back. I offered to redo her hair, but she said she already had someone else fix it. Due to this, I explained to her that I could not refund her money because she did not allow me the opportunity to see what she disliked about it. I persisted in offering her a new free hair style but she resisted. I have yet the opportunity to see what Kadija's complaint was.

I want Kadija to understand that since she never allowed me the opportunity to see what she did not like about her previous hair style, I cannot merely give her back her money. But, I am still willing to redo her hair if she would like, despite the fact that it has been over a month, because I have no hard fellings in this matter.

If I am such a horrible stylist, why was I blessed to be one of the 15 finalists in the 2008 Sensationnel Hair Idol show held in Atlanta, Georgia (www.sensationnel.com/hairidol08). To our future clients out there, please don't let this discourage you from checking us out-We have lots of references if you want them. We are also one of the top lace wig salons on the east coast! Please call us at 301-627-**** or visit us online at www.grafittihair.com. Thank you for taking time to read my response and God bless you.
