The perfect mix of ineptitude, dishonesty, and apathy - that sums up the company, the employees, and the culture.
Gehan (now known as Brightland) is an utter disaster. We have built 4 homes in Arizona previous to this transaction and buying a home from Gehan is the most unpleasant experience we have ever had with a builder.
It is impossible to list all the ways Gehan stumbled.
Here are a few of the most egregious areas:
The actual home build. Start to finish our home took 18 months. We got quite a few laughable, entertaining excuses along the way.
Closing. At time of closing we were missing the correct cabinets, the correct refrigerator, the included landscaping, a gas meter.
Additionally, our paver driveway was not complete. And again, too lengthy to list the long, long list of scratches, dings, stains, missing grout, etc. Five months later we are still chasing them to finish repairs.
Customer service. Throughout the course of the experience we came to believe nothing we were told.
This is across the board - sales, construction management, etc. to be frank, we felt they were dishonest with us throughout the entire process.
The company is so cheap and unwilling to fix its mistakes it sucks the soul from their employees, who in turn leave at their first chance to work somewhere else.
For clarity, this experience is not unique to us. It is the experience of EVERY single homeowner who buys from Gehan - without exception.
My advice to anyone considering purchasing a Gehan home would be to RUN THE OTHER DIRECTION!!

I have a terrible experience doing business with Gehan Homes. I am on a contract with them for about 9 months now.
Throughout the contruction phase I never got a true sense of completion date.
This theme has continued until the last week of closing. I was given a closing date with a few key items missing. Everyday I hear those things will be done but they aren't. I was shocked to see the state in which we had our first walk through.
I understand that there are delays in procurring material, labor shortage, etc.
But, I have a feeling that they have started using this as an excuse to hide many of their own shortcomings.
They have talked lengthly on their building quality and yet I fail to see any of that. In reality the quality is extremely poor. It seems like the construction team does not have a experienced workforce or the work done is never inpested properly. The final walk through done on an unfinished home.
I have been providing a list of items that needs attention for more than a week now and the only response is that "they are been worked",
"team is looking into it". A self-proclaimed quality builder doesn't do business like this. I fail to understand why so much rush for closing now. I am now asked to being pateint when things in my house are not complete and the closing date in within a few days.
The stupidest comment I get for pointing an defects "we build many houses".
How on earth is this a valid reason. Is it not your responsiblity to walk through the house and get things done in a proper way. Caprentry, Plumbing, Landscaping, electrical, you name it. In every department there have been some major flaws for me to identify.
As a first time home buyer this is a very terrible experinece.
We feel dejected. How do want to establish your creditiblity with this type of work?
One other complaint I have for Gehan is that it appears their management care about customer experience. Often time I tried to reach them but I was told to talk to sales rep. How do they plan to earn respect and reputation with this attitude.
Their contract is written carefully to protect them in all possible manner. So, for any fault, defects, damamges, delays they are not responsible.
And yet they have guts to lay all the possible blame, burden on buyer.
It feels as if they are doing a huge favor building a home for me or it is a donation. This arrogant behaviour needs to stop.
My request to all who are reading this post is to carefully research and read about the builders before you decide on buying a home.

There's so much to write and if anything I can write a damn essay about our experience with GEHAN. First and foremost, we're a military family of five.
Unfortunately our first home buying experience has not been the greatest due to this pandemic, but we've learned to deal with it and be patient with the process. Long story short, GEHAN does not give a *** about you, or your family. This company has shown their true colors! This damn Todd Bouchard sales rep for Buffalo Crossings is a joke and will be super nice to you until he collects your earnest money, after that you won't hear anything from him.
You'll have to call and Chase him down for updates. When you do call, please be prepared to get the runaround and the excuse I'm sorry, "IT'S THE WORLD WE LIVE IN" what a *** shame that you can't even be honest with your clients and have to steal their earnest money to make a profit. Whoever this Diane Cook is that has refused to refund our earnest money because GEHAN had pushed our closing dates more than 5 times is a joke as well. Please save yourself from reading this and DO NOT give them your earnest money or business.
They don't care about their clients and will not respond to you. All communication has been downhill since they took our earnest money. I hope the money they took from us is well worth it because karma is a *** Todd, grow some balls and stand up for your clients.
Have answers when your clients call for updates instead of oh let me ask so-and-so and get back to you. Lame *** company, and trust me, I'm not finished with you all.

No warranty does not follow up, poor workmanship,
It's been a year. I have over a 15-item list of concerns with the home.
Gehan has been aware of them from prior to closing.
Major concerns:
I have a gas range that the Whirlpool rep stated was installed incorrectly, this it is not vented properly. It's a GAS range.
Whirlpool rep also informed me the microwave is not secured properly to the wall. Potential of falling.
I brought to the attention of Gehan roofing concerns. Gehan stated they corrected.
Roof is leaking now.
Patch in my kitchen ceiling where Gehan's A/C tech stepped through it from the attic, never fixed.
Gutters were removed and never replaced.
Two cabinet faces are damaged, Gehan replaced one with a different shade cabinet. Other is still damaged.
Multiple electrical outlets do not work.
There was a gas leak in the garage. Gas Co. rep stated due to improper installation of the piping to the gas heater.
Gehan's trade did not have the tools to fix it, apologized and left. I had to ask the Gas Co. to come back out and replace the piping.
You ask Why did I close? Gehan's VP of Sales informed me that Gehan would impose monetary penalties if I did not close as they deemed the home complete.
I did not want to lose my new home, so I trusted the superintendant who stated he would address everything.
So disappointed. So frustrated.

Sales Associate Dishonest
****HOME BUYERS BEWARE! DO NOT BUY FROM GEHAN HOMES.
ESPECIALLY PEARLAND HIGHLAND MEADOWS!!!!!! Protect yourself from shady business (See story below)****
I purchased a new build projected to be done in Nov 2021. The prices of homes in this community have dropped 30k and mine has not even started construction yet. When the prices dropped, I immediately messaged our sales person, Robert, at highland Meadows asking why it dropped and if there was anything he could do for us.
Robert claimed he could not do anything at this time (few weeks ago). We then recently noticed a much larger home, on a larger lot have a 30k price deduction which further decreases the value of the home we bought. We were then interested in transferring to the bigger home for only 14k more. The cobuyer of my home, went to the larger home on 7/30 to view it and told Robert about our interest in transferring and buying that lot instead.
Robert agreed it was possible. The cobuyer then told Robert we would be back the following day. The cobuyer also texted Robert on 7/31 stating that we would be coming by. Robert went ahead and sold that home we wanted to transfer to without calling us to let us know someone else was even interested, the day we had planned to come in.
He sold it right out from under us, knowing we had wanted it and we're coming by. I am an ICU nurse who works nights, so we couldn't be there first thing in the AM. We feel as though we have been MISTREATED and UNDERVALUED by Gehan homes, specially Highland Meadows. Robert's loyalty to his home owners is clearly NOT a priority of his and his motive is soley to sell homes for his own profit.
We are first time home buyers and this has been a TERRIBLE buying experience. Robert had told us we were unable to get back the money we already put down on our house if we decided to pull out. After doing research in the surrounding neighborhoods, other home builders have better customer service, incentives, and prices.
I have been trying for days to get in contact with someone from corporate and no one answers their phone calls and I emailed the "feedback@***.com" and no one replies. DO NOT BUY FROM GEHAN HOMES @ HIGHLAND MEADOWS!!!!!!!!
