Basic LED bulbs short life

Early in the year 2021 we purchased an 8 pack of basic LED Daylight 60 w, not only because they claim to save energy but we thought it would be good fur us that they last longer than regular bulbs, 6.8 years it claims on the box. Well, we have been very disappointed. We got rid of old bulbs and put in 4 of these sometime in January. We do use this lighting more than 3 hours a day as that is what the 6yr life is based on but I don't think we should have to be replacing a bulb every 3 months. I mean first we thought it was just a defective one when it went out in April and I remember because it was my nieces birthday. And then June I guess cause it was just before the 4th of July. My husband was thinking this is too soon, and it was the same one we just replaced in the light in April. Now a week ago one of the bulbs started flickering but stopped, then a different one was flickering and stopped. Then this past week one of the flickering bulbs went out and the next day the other one did too. I really never expected to only replace bulbs every 6 years but at least more than 8 months or even if they lasted 2 years I would be thrilled. These are pretty expensive bulbs compared to us getting really cheap ones and replacing them every 3 months would still cost us less. I do see that on the box it is mentioned Made in China, Manufactured for GE lighting, General Electric Co. Nela Park, Cleveland OH 44112. I was wondering if this maybe possible that there was a defective bath of bulbs that came out of this facility? Maybe they had a problem with the company that manufactured them? But we will not replace these last 4 with this expensive product.

Defective 3-way GE bulbs

I purchased 2 - 2 packs of GE 3-way 50;100;150w bulbs. The first bulb I tried to use wouldn't work at all. The inside of the bulb looks "scratched" with black lines running through it. The second bulk was okay, but I am hoping the second pack won't be defective. These bulbs were made in Hungary! The PC: 35695 9****717 Desc: 50/150/NF-WT2. UPC 43 168 9**** I am hoping the one bad bulb was a fluke. They are too expensive to waste.

Replacement lenses were provided.

Jasco, mfg of subject fixtures, has provided replacement lenses. That is great and is certainly appreciated, although I will never figure out why it took 3 months. Anyway, issue resolved, GE and Jasco are on my nice list again.

I have several GE under-cabinet light fixtures UCF24/EB/DW/PRE that have been in service for several years. During their service period, these fixtures had not been touched until 03/May/2018 when one of the neon tubes needed to be replaced. When I tried to remove the lens to replace the tube, the lens crumbled. I used no force in removing the lens, the material of construction had simply become brittle over time. Because I have eight of these fixtures, I inspected the rest of them and found that they all have cracks. Keeping in mind that these lenses have not been touched since their installation, it is obviously a problem with the material of construction. I first contacted GE Lighting. That entity referred me to Jasco, apparently an affiliate of GE. Jasco advised that because the warranty on the fixture had expired, my only option would be to have replacement lenses custom-made to fit them. Although I will not be paying for this myself, I obtained a quote of $126 for the eight lenses. That amount is more than half of the cost of new fixtures. As the fixtures are branded GE, I filed a complaint against GE Lighting with BBB. BBB first contacted GE Lighting on 04/May/2018 and as of 28/May/2018, GE Lighting has not responded. Two images are attached, the lens that crumbled when I tried to remove it and one of the remaining lenses bearing a crack. This is my first in a series of many online reports recommending against purchase of GE products, especially light fixtures.

"Several years" could be anything between 3 years to 50. Nothing is built to last, especially plastic parts subjected to heat, dust, and plain old age.

GE won't do anything for you because they don't have to---the warranty period is long gone.

GE will continue to sell their products to unwitting customers no matter what a few unhappy customers think. Everything is throwaway.

Heat and ultraviolet light will destroy anything. You're lucky your cheap plastic lenses lasted as long as they did.
