Gate1travel in Lancaster, Pennsylvania - 7-day Peru & Machu Picchu
Included was the train trip to Machu Picchu with an optional "Vista dome" train. My travel agent did not realize the train was already included and paid an extra $332 for the vista dome (it should have been only $152 for both of us). I have been back a couple of weeks and can not get my money back. The local guide in Cuzco was lazy & deceitful. He assured us that we would be on the vista dome train but he had actually "dumped" us off and wouldn't tell us. One of our friends decided the night before that she would like this and he actually put her on it and refused to let us on even though we had paid well in advance. I had taken a trip to China w/ Gate 1 before and loved it. Hated this one!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Gate1travel in San Jose, San Jose - Promised Pickup at Airport Never Happened
Upon our arrival at the San Jose, Costa Rica airport on Thursday (Feb. 23) we expected to be met by a Gate1Travel driver to take us to our hotel. We waited for over 45 minutes; he never showed up. We took your air travel because it provided a driver our first day here to our first hotel. We paid for the driver; he didn't show. We are out the taxi fare from the airport to the hotel. We hope that you will reimburse us for the taxi fare and we do expect a response from you. This is our 3rd trip with Gate1Travel and have not been disappointed before. We brought friends with us and had touted your company to them. The non-driver was their first exposure to you. Thanks in advance. Edith and Lawrence Smith #423477

Gate1travel in Rancho Cucamonga, California - Great Trip with Gate 1
Gate 1 was fabulous. They took great care of us. They met us at every stop, and walked us through customs. When in Greece, our 1/2 day tour in Athens was cancelled. We contacted Gate 1 and the agent, Vicky, helped us find a guide to give us a walking tour through the City to replace the 1/2 day tour that was cancelled. Our guide, Demetra Potsika, was fabulous. Her stories and her history of Ancient Athens were absolutely captivating! The next time I want to travel, I will use Gate 1. Not sure why some complain. I say Gate 1 is fantastic.

Did not inform airline of ticket purchase,switched flights after purchase of tour, switch a hotel in one location,one of the days tours was horrible. Customer service was extremely rude, once they have your money they don't care. One customer service agent stated nothing you can do about your bad trip. Meet other people on different Gate 1 tours crossing the country and they were having the same issues and customer service was of no help. People were not connected with transfer, tours and some missed they cruise ship and could not get Gate 1 customer service to help. Much less time and energy to plan your own trip.

We recently purchased an group tour to Italy. One of the main reasons I booked through Gate 1 was based off of the hotel amenities. This tour was booked several months in advance. A few days prior to going on the tour they changed our hotel in 2 destinations. The hotel changes were downgrades based off of user reviews from tripadvisor. When you pay for a tour you are paying for the amenities as well. Come to find out...There is some small clause in the agreement you sign that says that can switch hotels, tour destinations, and basically anything else they want to without them having to take any responsibility. This is an extremely bad way of doing business, and bad customer service. When calling customer service they were rude and wuld not do anything to make the situation better. Beware of Gate 1.

I've used Gate 1 Travel for my trips to Turkey and Morocco. I planned on using them again for my trip to Ecuador but my flight was canceled due to Hurricane Irene. Now customer service is not taking my calls and they aren't giving me a refund or allowing me to reschedule for a future date. Similar to what other travelers said about them, they are more than happy to take your money, but won't help you when something goes wrong. The travel agent told me that I should have gotten travel insurance, but the one from Gate 1 Travel only covers illness and loss of baggage, not weather! And don't pay the balance by check even if they give you a discount because you won't be protected by your credit card (I definitely learned my lesson!). I am reporting them to the Better Business Bureau. They are *** artists!

Don't use them - they are NOT a bargain. We took a cruise and were stuck in a cabin next to the engine - did not know this was possible. Was told that we "should have known" since the plan of the rooms was on the web site. Didn't see anything saying that the engine was next door! We were always docked the farthest away from towns. The agents also messed up our air reservations and then didn't answer calls. Bottom line, uou might get lucky and 1) get a decent room and 2) get a knowledgeable rep. But if you are spending four or five thousand dollars, why take a chance? We will NEVER use them again and strongly recommend that you learn from our experience!

I booked a trip to Beijing with a single supplement. When I arrived I found out that I was the only person who booked the tour. I asked for my money back for the single supplement. It was so difficult trying to get a response from them and when I did they were extremely rude. I travel a lot and I had used this company a few times before this incident. However, now I go with their competitors. Just know that this is a company that will take your money but if you have an issue, good luck. You're on your own.
