We can certainly understand how frustrating it can be when any part of our clients planned travel is changed. We do understand that any cruise line can change the ship being utilized, at any time, without our agreement or advanced knowledge, we therefore outline this possibility in our terms and conditions for our client to review prior to making a reservation. As the passenger was not in agreement with the change we immediately issued a full refund for the cost of the cruise.

Gate1travel in Lancaster, Pennsylvania - 7-day Peru & Machu Picchu

Included was the train trip to Machu Picchu with an optional "Vista dome" train. My travel agent did not realize the train was already included and paid an extra $332 for the vista dome (it should have been only $152 for both of us). I have been back a couple of weeks and can not get my money back. The local guide in Cuzco was lazy & deceitful. He assured us that we would be on the vista dome train but he had actually "dumped" us off and wouldn't tell us. One of our friends decided the night before that she would like this and he actually put her on it and refused to let us on even though we had paid well in advance. I had taken a trip to China w/ Gate 1 before and loved it. Hated this one!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Gate1travel in San Jose, San Jose - Promised Pickup at Airport Never Happened

Upon our arrival at the San Jose, Costa Rica airport on Thursday (Feb. 23) we expected to be met by a Gate1Travel driver to take us to our hotel. We waited for over 45 minutes; he never showed up. We took your air travel because it provided a driver our first day here to our first hotel. We paid for the driver; he didn't show. We are out the taxi fare from the airport to the hotel. We hope that you will reimburse us for the taxi fare and we do expect a response from you. This is our 3rd trip with Gate1Travel and have not been disappointed before. We brought friends with us and had touted your company to them. The non-driver was their first exposure to you. Thanks in advance. Edith and Lawrence Smith #423477

Having spent 3 weeks in India on our own during Feb 2012 - no Gate 1 - I have to comment on this post. I traveled with a Chennai native. We were both women in our forties. First of all, India is a very dirty country filled with very nice people who are quite poor and are brought up that it's every person for themselves. This is true in every third world country I have been to (and first world countries too!) I traveled to the N, S, E and W of India in those 3 wks and can say the hotels are for the most part very poor quality - remember that their rating system is vastly different from ours making a "3 star" hotel really a 1 star, and a "5 star" varies from an actual 5 (rare) to a 3 or 4 star. The elephant rides up the fort are fun, but they are not easy necessarily.

The trinket shops are overpriced and sell very cheap quality. You have to bargain! The Taj is wonderful and on my bucket list to see so I'm glad I went. Don't waste time paying for a safari in Ranthambore - you will not see any tigers - they keep killing them. DO see the ancient temples and forts! I am a seasoned traveler and was lucky not to get sick because I was OCD with washing every fruit with soap & water, then drying thoroughly with a napkin (which are hard to find in India, so I took extras from restaurants) then peeling the fruit! Do not eat salads, or anything that could have local water in it, unless it's hot coffee, tea, etc. Wipe the water off the plates or banana leaves at serve-yourself restaurants! Brush your teeth w/bottled water. I did all this and only got a cold as I tend to do when exposed to so much diesel (we did too many auto rickshaws).

India is definitely not for everyone, and the roads are a mess, so keep this in mind if booking a guided tour - you WILL be late to places! Overall I'm glad I saw this interesting country, but really have no desire to go back anytime soon.

Gate1travel in Rancho Cucamonga, California - Great Trip with Gate 1

Gate 1 was fabulous. They took great care of us. They met us at every stop, and walked us through customs. When in Greece, our 1/2 day tour in Athens was cancelled. We contacted Gate 1 and the agent, Vicky, helped us find a guide to give us a walking tour through the City to replace the 1/2 day tour that was cancelled. Our guide, Demetra Potsika, was fabulous. Her stories and her history of Ancient Athens were absolutely captivating! The next time I want to travel, I will use Gate 1. Not sure why some complain. I say Gate 1 is fantastic.

June 2010 Used Gate1 to travel to Greece. The guide, Patmos, was fantastic.

Did not inform airline of ticket purchase,switched flights after purchase of tour, switch a hotel in one location,one of the days tours was horrible. Customer service was extremely rude, once they have your money they don't care. One customer service agent stated nothing you can do about your bad trip. Meet other people on different Gate 1 tours crossing the country and they were having the same issues and customer service was of no help. People were not connected with transfer, tours and some missed they cruise ship and could not get Gate 1 customer service to help. Much less time and energy to plan your own trip.

Gate1travel in Austin, Texas - Gate1 Travel Bait and Switch

We recently purchased an group tour to Italy. One of the main reasons I booked through Gate 1 was based off of the hotel amenities. This tour was booked several months in advance. A few days prior to going on the tour they changed our hotel in 2 destinations. The hotel changes were downgrades based off of user reviews from tripadvisor. When you pay for a tour you are paying for the amenities as well. Come to find out...There is some small clause in the agreement you sign that says that can switch hotels, tour destinations, and basically anything else they want to without them having to take any responsibility. This is an extremely bad way of doing business, and bad customer service. When calling customer service they were rude and wuld not do anything to make the situation better. Beware of Gate 1.

I just came back from a Gate 1 trip to Italy, one of our hotel's in Sorrento was switched, but to a Better Hotel, the view was incredible!! Also when I traveled to Egypt last year we were upgraded to Palace rooms with Nile views....for the money you can't beat them!! If you want luxury hotels, don't expect their low prices!!

If by chance due to an overbooking situation a hotel has to be changed, we will only accept accommodations that are of equal quality and rating. Changes such as this fortunately do not occur frequently and as soon as we are advised we contact our clients immediately. If a client has a concern we certainly urge them to contact us directly to review the matter.

Gate1travel in New York, New York - Gate 1 Travel are *** Artists

I've used Gate 1 Travel for my trips to Turkey and Morocco. I planned on using them again for my trip to Ecuador but my flight was canceled due to Hurricane Irene. Now customer service is not taking my calls and they aren't giving me a refund or allowing me to reschedule for a future date. Similar to what other travelers said about them, they are more than happy to take your money, but won't help you when something goes wrong. The travel agent told me that I should have gotten travel insurance, but the one from Gate 1 Travel only covers illness and loss of baggage, not weather! And don't pay the balance by check even if they give you a discount because you won't be protected by your credit card (I definitely learned my lesson!). I am reporting them to the Better Business Bureau. They are *** artists!

My bet is that those with issues relating to air travel decided to save money by booking their own air travel rather than taking te air included option. If air is included and weather causes a flight to be cancelled, the tour vendor is responsible for making things right. If you book the air then you are responsible.

It's troubling to see issues like this! This is one of those situations where a Travel company has to *** the bullet and pay its customers back for a trip they never took or at least provide them the ability reschedule their trip for a later date.

Don't use them - they are NOT a bargain. We took a cruise and were stuck in a cabin next to the engine - did not know this was possible. Was told that we "should have known" since the plan of the rooms was on the web site. Didn't see anything saying that the engine was next door! We were always docked the farthest away from towns. The agents also messed up our air reservations and then didn't answer calls. Bottom line, uou might get lucky and 1) get a decent room and 2) get a knowledgeable rep. But if you are spending four or five thousand dollars, why take a chance? We will NEVER use them again and strongly recommend that you learn from our experience!

This complaint was proven to be 100% fake/bogus when posted this spring. All names of cities/flight numbers/air carriers were proven wrong.

In our opinion the op(original poster) has issues with Gate 1 not associated with any fright or trip.An ex-employee fired/terminated.
