  • - Quaker City Fuel Mart store 727: paid $20 on pump 4; pump wouldn’t start; Cherice yelled at my husband and accused me of a grade I didn’t specify.

I went into the Quaker City, Ohio location with my 9-year-old son, 14 year old daughter, and husband. I handed the clerk $20 and said, "$20 on pump 4, please".

She rang me up, and I walked away and continent shopping with my son, he wanted a snack as we had been traveling for quite some time. A few minutes later, my husband walked into the store and asked politely, why isn't the pump turning on? The clerk, Cherice, store number 727, in Quaker City,Ohio, became irate the moment she saw my husband. Her whole demeanor, body language, facial expressions, tone of voice, everything changed as soon as she saw him.

He is African American. She became extremely agitated for no reason. He stood quite far from the counter and asked again, politely, why the pump wasn't turning on. She got incredibly upset and started to get loud.

She said that she had asked me personally what type of gas we wanted when I paid, and that I told her a certain grade. That did not happen. I asked for $20 on pump 4, that's it. That was it.

She didn't ask what grade. When we asked that she correct it so we could continue to pump gas, she continued to scream at both my husband and myself, in front of our son, and finally proceeded to almost punch the cash register as she hit the keys as hard as possible, I thought she was going to break it. She continued to yell at my husband for no reason, I'm beside myself at this point because I cannot understand what the problem was and why she was being so cruel, and again, in front of our son. She continued to try and argue about something that did not occur.

$20 on pump 4, that was the conversation. She continued to get louder and louder to the point she was yelling at us, in front of multiple other customers. She never asked me once what type of fuel we wanted, she rang me up and that was that, but when the pump wouldn't come on, she started screaming that I specifically told her a certain grade. I've never had to go into a store and tell a clerk what grade of gas I needed, that's done at the pump, and even if it was the case for this particular location, she didn't ask me!

We had no such conversation, yet she continued to yell and accuse me that I told her a specific grade. At this point I'm so confused, and getting a bit uncomfortable as this is again, all in front of my 9 year old son. I asked for her name and what store number it was. Then, she really lost it.

She yelled the spelling of her name and told me this was all being recorded as well as audio to which I replied, thank God! I truly hope you're cameras work and it was all recorded because this was a terrible experience. I ended up having my son put everything he had picked out back on the shelves, as well as a few other things we were going to buy. I walked outside and needed to go back in to ask how to get a hold of the manager.

As I walked in, the employee Cherice was yelling loudly to her Co worker about the interaction, using abhorrent profanities in front of young children, and just screaming in front of other customers about the interaction. We didn't do anything wrong, she was so incredibly rude for no reason. The entire interaction was recorded, and it really isn't ok for employees to treat costumers like this. She was very, very vocal saying basically, if ya don't like it, go somewhere else.

Ok. We definitely will never go back to this location. I then went to the Piolet Travel Center in Belmont, Ohio to get my son the snack I was unable to get because were treated so badly at fuel mart. The employees at Piolet,3 of them, overheard my husband and I talking about how horrible our experience was, and they chimed RIGHT IN, telling us, oh, that's normal for the Fuel Mart in Quaker City, the employees are generally awful to most customers, then continued to share their bad experiences with us.

So, apparently the entire Ohio Valley is aware of Charice and the poor treatment of this establishment. I don't know why she immediately got upset the moment she saw my husband, he was cordial and asked a question. The only thing I can guess is your employee is possibly biased or racist. Either way, her behavior was abhorrent and inexcusable.

I called the store to try and speak to a manager and was told, "you just called here a minute ago". To which I responded, "no, I did not, I would like to know how to get a hold of corporate ". The employee fumbled and told me to go online. So...

here I am. Not a super happy camper to say the least.

We didn't deserve to be treated so poorly, we weren't rude, and we didn't do anything wrong. I would never treat anyone as poorly as we were treated tonight.

Pros:
  • No pros
Cons:
  • Terrible customer service

Preferred solution: I want to speak to someone. A real person.

User's recommendation: Do not go here. Ever. Ever. Ever. Ever.

Why would your husband just yell that out? He should have come to you to verify you paid, then you could have asked the clerk about the issue.

What are you talking about? He didn't yell anything out or at anyone.

Did you not read what happemed? The clerk was the only one who was screaming. I was at the front of the store, he walked in, stood back, politely asked why the pump wasn't turning on, and she flipped. He didn't cut in line, no one was in like at that point, they came a few min later.

She was focused on him and gave him her attention. He didn't cut the line or yell anything out. He, again POLITELY, asked a question. I don't see anywhere where I said he yelled.

He didn't.

We were polite and she flipped on us for no reason. Where do you see that I said he yelled at anyone?

The clerk told him I paid to begin with. She just freaked out.
