Gratitude

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full
AI Highlights
  • - Freecycle is a free-membership, free-goods exchange that keeps usable items from landfills, and scammers spoof AOL/Yahoo ESP users as Freecycle.

I have given and received items using the Freecycle site. They are one of the longest running "recycle goods" business in the world.

Membership is free and so are all of the items given or received.

Their goal is to keep still usable items out of landfills.

For a few months, non-member AOL and Yahoo ESP users have been spoofed by clever scammers pretending to be Freecycle. They cannot fix this because it is not coming from them.

It looks like AOL and Yahoo are not willing to help their users. It is no wonder why their users are upset - but they are blaming the wrong company.

User's recommendation: Do not use AOL or Yahoo. Latest security incident: Spoofed emails in 2025 Email spoofing: Freecycle confirmed that its email address is being spoofed, meaning a scammer is falsifying the sender's address to make emails appear legitimate. Two types of scams: The organization noted two specific spam campaigns: One involves emails asking users to reset their passwords. Another directs users to fraudulent websites by clicking links in the email.
