Still traumatized years later
I just celebrated my release from Ft Lauderdale Hospital 3 years ago. I am a senior citizen, and I must say that the reviews I have read have been hostile, but there is some truth to them.
I was, and witnessed, the staff and supervisors mistreat patients there. I think we all hope to be treated with civility and dignity at out most dire moments, but this is not true at Ft Lauderdale Hospital. There is a total lack of compassion from the supervisors right on down the line to the staff. We are pumped so full of chemicals, that we sometimes feel worse than when we arrived.
The doctors in my case, were not interested in what I had to say. One doctor, and I quote, said " how can I write your prescriptions if I have to listen to you ". Believe me, I know my history much better than the doctors there. This is the encapsulation of the core problem there.
If the patients are making the doctors life "inconvenient ", they should have chosen a different profession! Go anywhere but there.
Do not go there
Horrible its not a hosp its a hostil gov pays for homeless two gs a day go anywhere but here no help dont care just taking gov money
Fort Lauderdale Hospital - Medical Care Review
Worst experience ever. DO NOT GO!!!
They do not care about you. The staff are extremely rude and unattended. The nurse Rita told me to rest after I told her I could possibly have a head injury. She did not care for my health.
The supervisor Barbara was unprofessional and so disrespectful. No respect if you are in there. I had a concussion prior to admitting myself the nurse did not help me I kept throwing up nobody gave me any medications I eventually had to leave on medical terms and go hospital to treat my concussion. Do not waste your time going here!
The only thing they care about is their paycheck coming in. They dont even deserve one star!

Fort Lauderdale Hospital=NIGHTMARE!!! My significant other called his Ins for alcohol/substance abuse providers and was given 2 choices.
We chose Ft. Lauderdale Hospital for the closer location. Big Mistake!!! Came in at 4pm..waited 2 hours in lobby to be seen. People were laying half on couches...half on floor...sleeping...'Nodding' off...falling over...peeing, shouting. By 6pm...husband goes in to what we both thought was intake etc... I left, but felt strange because I had to ask about phone calls, visiting, family participation, meals etc.. NO ONE EXPLAINED ANYTHING!!! My significant other told me, after I left he was told to wait in lobby...he did not get admitted until 10pm. He had no phone to call me...until he was on his assigned floor. They strip you down and make you wear sheer hospital gown and it is FREEZING in there. My significant other was told...''you can't wear gym shorts because of drawstring"...
meanwhile...there are long cords hanging from fans and lights in rooms...so if someone wants to hurt themselves...THEY COULD!!! When hAlso, there are no lights working or on in his room and other rooms (very dark & dingy and FREEZING inside). At 10:30 pm...I received 3 voicemails (i missed the calls because I went right next door to my neighbor to get some dinner they had made for me to be supportive) it was my significant other telling me...GET ME OUT OF HERE!!!...THIS IS A MENTAL PLACE...couldn't even say the word...hospital. They tried to give him Ativan...he refused! They would NOT LET HIM LEAVE OR BE DISCHARGED UNTIL HE SAW PSYCHIATRIST NEXT DAY...Immediately by 7:30am next day...I was there to pick him up...I get there and ask to speak to someone and no one wants to address my questions...I tried calling to his floor...they said...NO CALLS UNTIL 4PM...But I WASN'T LEAVING!! Told BH tech...to please let him know I was downstairs waiting for him to be discharged...I thought at least if ge knew that it would make him feel better. The tech said he would...and he could be discharged right after he sees Psychiatrist and he agrees? I SAID...I DON'T CARE WHO AGREES...HE'S 51 NO MENTAL ISSUES...NO DETOX NEEDED...(relapsed to cocaine only after LTS abd had 2 days clean) AND IS LEAVING THIS PLACE...NO MATTER WHAT!....I WAITED THERE...at 12PM...got a call from my significant other...saying the Dr just signed discharge paper and he is FREEZING and to come get him...I said, I'M IN THE LOBBY & I'VE BEEN HERE SINCE 7:30am...HE WAS NEVER TOLD, I WAS WAITING IN LOBBY, LIKE I ASKED TECH TO DO! Still waiting...waiting...he was FINALLY able to leave by 4:30pm. THANK GOD!!! While I waited in that lobby, I witnessed...people detoxing right there, screaming, and nasty assistance from employees. IT WAS LIKE AN EPISODE OF AMERICAN HORROR STORY ASYLUM!!! This place makes BARC LOOK LIKE THE TAJ MAHAL...I have been with my significant other for 13 years...been through a lot due to his addiction...but as far as his history of treatment goes...he's been to BARC 2X...and SA 2x...he was NEVER EVER treated like this!!! DO NOT BRING ANYONE YOU LOVE OR CARE ABOUT TO FORT LAUDERDALE HOSPITAL...HORRIBLE PLACE!!!
My heart goes out to the people who have no one to advocate and support them. My S.O. is awaiting a bed at BARC...He wants help to get back on track to his sobriety!!!
P.S. He has an extreme cold...fever 101.8...bad sore throat, chills etc...
Because it was FREEZING IN THERE!!...PEOPLE CAN GET PNEUMONIA...LOOK AT ALL THE REVIEWS...THEY ARE TRUE!!!
NIGHTMARE AT FORT LAUDERDALE HOSPITAL
warning: don't ever let your child or love one enter the door at the Fort Lauderdale Hospital. If you do, you will regret for the rest of your life.
My 15 yr old daughter was sent there following a visit at the hospital. The decision was made by an incompetent physician on staff that night at the University Hospital located in Tamarac, Florida. My daughter was transported by police car at 5:00am. Bear in mind, my daughter did not display any signs whatsoever of mental illness, just being a normal anxious teenager.
The Fort Lauderdale Hospital is a Money Making prison using people as their baites. Kids and adults are being treated like prisoners, deprived of their privacy, drugged up without parents' consent, stripped naked with intense search of all cavities. Visits are not allowed except on Sunday morning for 1 hour and even that visit is complete chaos; late to allow parents in and early to kick them out. I fought like a lunatic to get my daughter out of there.
I even called the Fort Lauderdale police 3 times but they never came. I managed to get her out before their famous 72 hours mandatory stay. Then came the heavey medical bill from them, and the University Hospital. Like I said, if you ever hear of the Fort Lauderdale Hospital as a place that can help your child or love one, don't even consider it.
There is no help offered in that place, they administer drugs and make money with that. The staff is incompetent and all recovered drug and alcohol addicts themselves with some major control issues. They enjoy pinning down kids who are half their size and traumatizing them for life.
Prisoners are treated better than the patients at the Fort Lauderdale Hospital. I can't believe this place is still in business.
- Worse hospital ever
Preferred solution: I want this hospital to waive the balance of my invoice before I sue them

Fort Lauderdale Hospital Peter Ventre MD Psychiatrist
Psychiatric disorders are not medical diseases. There are no lab tests, brain scans, X-rays or chemical imbalance tests that can verify any mental disorder is a physical condition. This is not to say that people do not get depressed, or that people can't experience emotional or mental duress, but psychiatry has repackaged these emotions and behaviors as "disease" in order to sell or force treatments.
I went to the hospital for stomach problems related to my drinking, I wanted no part in starting a life time of psychiatric drugging or psychiatry at all.
By law in Florida (several other states have similar laws), a person, before receiving medication or other treatment, has the right to receive and must be given sufficient information about this treatment to enable him or her to "make a knowing and willful decision without any element of force, fraud, deceit, duress or other forms of constraint or coercion". (Florida Statute 394.459(3)(a)
This Peter Ventre psychiatrist trys to coerce OVER medication and then terrorizes me with treats of "injectable form". Cause he knows the dosages are to high and the reaction he will get (refusal). I was reduced to begging, I cant take all these pills... cause of these effects... please...
This refusal is taken a a symptom that I was sick and needed the medication and treatment more, according to this so called "doctor".
This "injectable form" of forced medication involves men grabbing and overpowering me then pulling down my pants and injecting long acting (1 month) nueroleptic drugs (chemical rape), Thats what he told me would happen If I disagreed with his diagnosis and medication advice (order) IN Fort Lauderdale Hospital . This threat was made to me.
I was to chose between a forced chemical rape with a needle or taking pills that that make me sick ?
My reaction to this threat, My feelings of fear, total helplessness, outrage victimization and a need to protect myself is also called a symptom of the so called psychiatric Illness that I was never even told the name of.
Its a scam, anyone would refuse the amount of drugs this guy perscribes, The refusal is then used to extend your stay + threats to make you feel unsafe and abused to make you "act out" this leads to more mistreatment @ $750+ dollars a day.
I didnt act out.
I had to make desperate calls outside the hospital for legal help to escape this Peter Ventre MD and "Fort Lauderdale Hospital".
None of these medication "treatments" were for anthing "medical" at all.
Here are the unwanted effects of the drugs he tryed to force on me.
A number of harmful effects have been observed, including lowered life expectancy, extrapyramidal effects on motor control, weight gain, decrease in brain volume, enlarged *** and milk discharge in men and women (galactorrhea due to hyperprolactinaemia), lowered white blood cell count (agranulocytosis), involuntary repetitive body movements (tardive dyskinesia), diabetes, an inability to sit still or remain motionless (akathisia), sexual dysfunction, a return of psychosis requiring increasing the dosage due to cells producing more neurochemicals to compensate for the drugs (tardive psychosis), and a potential for permanent chemical dependence leading to psychosis much worse than before treatment began, if the drug dosage is ever lowered or stopped (tardive dysphrenia).
I knew how dangerous these drugs were and refused.
Just the side effect "lowered life expectancy" was enough to say NO.
The other drug he tryed to force on me at THE SAME TIME has these effects:
Nervous system effects have included dizziness (up to 49%), somnolence (up to 36%), headache (up to 32%), ataxia (up to 31%), nystagmus (up to 26%), abnormal gait (up to 17%), tremor (up to 16%), emotional lability (up to 8%), confusion (up to 7%), nervousness (up to 7%), anxiety (up to 7%), sedation (up to 6%), insomnia (up to 6%), amnesia (up to 5%), aggravated convulsions (up to 5%), abnormal thinking (up to 4%), abnormal coordination (up to 4%), tremor (up to 4%), hypoesthesia (up to 3%), speech disorder (up to 3%), dysmetria (up to 3%), abnormal coordination (up to 2%), confusion (up to 2%), cranial injury (up to 2%), agitation (up to 2%), impaired concentration (up to 2%), convulsions (up to 2%), and involuntary muscle contractions (up to 2%). Generalized tonic-clonic seizures following acute withdrawal have also been reported.
Also no way was I was not going to start taking a drug that when I stop I can get siezures !
This drug also has a whole list of nasty effects on other bodily systems just as ugly.
My right to full informed consent regarding the medical legitimacy of psychiatric diagnosis, the RISKS of psychiatric treatments, the RIGHT to all available medical alternatives, and the RIGHT to refuse any treatment considered harmful like it sais on the patient bill of rights was ignored.
I was given no medical tests at all , nothing to show the state of my body was defective and I needed this dangerous treatment.
I was violated mistreated and abused for profit by Peter Ventre MD psychiatrist and Fort Lauderdale Hospital.

STAY AWAY FROM DR.PETER VENTRE
I am absolutely appalled at the quality of service I received from everyone at this clinic. My sister was a patient of his and my sister has a mental disorder and is very dependent on her medication to function properly.
I was referred by Atlantic Shores Hospital to Dr. Peter Ventre and his associate Dr. Bret. He doesn’t even communicate with you and keeps you in the dark as to what you’re prescribed.
He just shoves a bunch of pills and tells you to discontinue what you’re taking without consulting your primary doctor. The first few nights were a nightmare because of her medication changes. The staff told me I had to wait until the next appointment to speak with the doctor. So imagine, I had to deal with my sister throwing tantrums at all hours of the night and day!
When I made it to the appointment, I only could see his associate, she was very unsympathetic to my situation and under the direction of Dr. Ventre they changed her pills AGAIN! I follow his advice a few more times, and each time it only gets worse! I would call desperately for help and was told that he cannot talk to me and that I had to wait until the next appointment.
I was finally told to discontinue all the current pills with no instructions or new prescriptions. I called to try to speak with the doctor for instructions and it seems the nasty lazy rude staff doesn’t want to work and tells me “the doctor will call you later this evening” and I get nothing for over 3 days (mind you, I called every day with the same answer). Finally, I was fed up and demanded to speak with the doctor immediately and was told that I needed to make an appointment and the next available time would be NOVEMBER. I cannot wait 5 MONTHS for a consultation that would only take 5 MINUTES of his life!
When I explained that I was so desperate to speak with him, that I would be willing to go personally to the office, the girl on the phone yelled to me to stop “threatening” them. When I tried to explain myself again, they had the audacity to hang up on me! Because of the lack of medication and communication, my sister’s caretaker had to admit her to the hospital because she was in an uncontrollable lucid state and had to call 9-1-1.
I have been so stressed with this that I even had to have a heart cauterization and was told that I need to de-stress myself! How can I with a unsympathetic doctor who only wants a check?!
Mrs. Dorothy Kirk
My Son and Daughter-in-Law ordered a floral arrancement to be delivered to my house for Mother's Day. But, I ended up going to their house in Palm City, Fl.
She phoned to ask that they be delivered to Palm City instead and was told they were a contractor and could not do that.
They were delivered to my house and given to my next door neighbor, who in turn, put them in my house where the roses wilted.
Today, May 14th, I threw them away with only 2 carnations and some greenery left. There is some greenery left, but that will to in the garbage tomorrow, Wednesday, May 15th.

How A 6-Year-Old Got Locked On A Psych Ward
His mother said the boy had merely thrown a tantrum. But a hospital owned by America’s largest psychiatric chain, UHS, held him for three days — and filed a court petition to keep him even longer.
While in the hospital, the child suffered a bloody nose and was locked in a seclusion room in the middle of the night.

True, they stole my antianxiety medical , prescribed My doctors After years.. Leaving me at risk for a heart attack
And I'm not a child i'm am adult seeking mental health counseling BE WARE
Fort Lauderdale hospital definitely needs some oversight. They leave therapist in charge of loosely thought out or not thought out at all discharge plans. My loved one went in having never smoked and came out a smoker. On a recent visit they refused to follow a recommendation from the court.Discharging my loved on without further help.Because they don't have case workers to assist in insurance matters they bill you astronomically at the end of merely drugging and housing the patient.
Someday abusive staff is going to run into someone they victimized OUTSIDE this hellhole on the street and learn a good lesson.
