New to me 2005 18,000 BTU a/c

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full

I inherited a 2005 18,000 BTU a/c unit from my boat neighbor and was able to make it fit in my 1981 Mainship 34. So far, so good.

I plumbed it and hooked up the electrical. The fan worked, but not the compressor (and therefore not the pump). I wired up a new 4-wire thermostat...but no luck. I called Flagship Marine late this Monday morning and spoke to Steve.

He was more than helpful. It was a simple fix and by noontime I had a fully operational a/c unit.

I am now as happy as a clam underwater. Thanks, Steve!

Nothing but positive experience with Flagship Marine

I recently purchased a 4 Ton chiller from them to replace a Webasto that had died, what I felt was, an early death. I looked all over the internet and literally stumbled upon Flagship Marine. Boy am I glad I did!

The space that was being vacated by the old Webasto is very cramped. Flagship worked with me to, basically make a custom version of their standard 4 ton chiller. Who else could I have gotten to do that? At the end of the day, their unit was no more expensive than a Webasto replacement (never going to happen), and less than the other alternatives.

I looked at the construction methods on their website and loved the way they have avoided large main circuit boards as control hubs for the chiller operation.

My boat was recently struck by lightning and it fried everything....everything except the Flagship chiller.

Since the Flagship chiller has no circuit boards with little ultra-low current handling transistor and op-amps (assuming all of the control and monitoring functions), there is really not much to burn up. Even if the controls had taken a direct hit, the individual parts are inexpensive and easily available. That is definitely NOT the case with the other manufacturers. Add to that, if I'm am cruising out of the country, I won't be at the mercy of some *special* service technician and a hideously expensive replacement main control board if something fails.

When we initially received the unit there was a gremlin that took a while to solve. Steve worked tirelessly to help us find the issue and covered everything under warranty. I could not be any happier with their performance.

There are a couple of negative reviews here, and on other sites. They are old. I am not familiar with their circumstances. I can only speak to my own experience, and it has been flawless!

I would buy from them all over again without ANY hesitation.

*** Poor Product! Terrible Customer Service

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full

We recently purchased a 18k btu unit and had it installed in our boat. It arrived DOA.

Had lost its freon in transit. Maybe it was gone before it left Flagships manufacturing floor. We had two separate marine AC companies test and debug. Both came up with a condenser leak.

Flagship went instantly into a denial mode and said it must of been damaged in shipping. I tried to talk with Chris at flagship and he is the worst person to ever be talking with customers.

I tried Tom and he is the 2nd worst person to be talking with customers! They do not stand behind there product and they should be ashamed to claim it is made in the USA.

Flagship Marine - Air Conditioner Review

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full

I have a 20,000 btu ac from them. It is 11 months old and is a hunk of JUNK!

It has broke 3 times in three months. Their answer is send it back again and they will evaluate it for warranty. Their customer service SUCKS and their products SUCK! They LIE!

My 20,000 btu ac comes with a 15,000 btu compressor, the part that keeps going bad. The sails person TOM told me that it was the size I needed anything less would not cool properly, BS!

I now have a dometic 16,000 btu unit as of last weekend and it out preforms the flagship unit in every way! I will be filling a law suit against flagship marine next week.

Flagship Marine sends defective products. 0 customer service

I researched Flagship Marine and thought they had a good product and good customer service. Maybe that was the case but not anymore. I purchased a 16.5K BTU marine air conditioner from them. It took them a week to ship it, another week for me to receive it. No problem there, everyone gets busy. 2 weeks later, the unit is no longer blowing cold air. I called them up. they asked for a few temperatures, gave them the answer, they said they'd call me back. Didnt get a call back, so I called them again, and then they asked me for completely other temperatures. Gave the info, they said they'll call back, they never did. A friend had an AC guy working on his boat, the technician came over and in 2 minutes detected a major leak under the high pressure switch. Quoted $150 to fill it back up. Flagship marine said no, they asked me to pack it up and send it back. (mind you that this is in July, 2nd hottest month of the year) A week for the item to get there 3 days for them to look at it, they said they fixed it and sent it back. Well, sorta. The item goes missing during shipping. 7 days of looking for it, and shipping company cant find it. Called Flagship marine and they say they will locate it, and ask me to keep waiting. I say it has been lost for 7 days, have that item sent back to you, send me a new one. They say I have to wait. So now it has been 5 weeks since I paid for the item and still dont have anything to show for it. So I cancel that old order and place an order for a new one, thinking this will get me a new marine air conditioning unit faster. Wrong. They cancelled the new order, and the old order and asked me to use a new vendor.

No problem Flagship marine. Just ordered a 18.5 unit from OceanBreeze.

Again, I am sure Flagship marine has some good people in there, but their Quality assurance is zip, customer service is nada. Save time, save headache, dont order from them.

Going through the same thing with them now. Purchased an 18.5 BTU unit and a 9k btu unit...

both are junk. Heat works great, but as an air conditioner they are trash.

Could not agree more about Chris and Tom, had my units for over 2 weeks and told me they had just arrived... get the real story, commercial guys came in and they shoved my unit to the back.

Flagship Marine is a fraud! Pre-purchase was all talk about how their equipment didn't break.

If you "should" have a problem, ship it back to the factory and it would be repaired at no charge promptly.

I'm waiting four weeks now for my under warranty unit to be looked at. When I call to inquire about it, I'm spoke to rudely by their production person - Chris Trepper.

I agree. Two locked compressors in 4 years. Also why 20000 BTU unit is supplied with a 15500 compressor?
