AI Highlights
  • - Sept 2020 chimney leak estimate; work completed and paid.
  • - Leak returned 12/31; contractor unresponsive; new estimates show extra costs.

We got an estimate for chimney repair (severe leak) in mind-September 2020 and contracted David with First Call Chimney Service aka Chimney Experts (this is who he had us write the check out to) to do the work for the next week with a warranty. Work was completed on schedule/budget on 09/21/2020 and paid for in full via check.

We had no leaking issues until 12/31 when it started leaking again. I called and left a voicemail message of who I was, that we have an active leak and to please call me with my contact #. Never heard back. I have called as of Friday, 01/22/2021 6 times in the past 3 weeks with making contact with David 2 times, once the week before last to schedule for Tuesday afternoon of last week for him to come out but when I didn't hear from him, and he didn't show up, at 4:30pm I called him, and he said he was in Shelbyville and wouldn't make it.

We rescheduled for Thursday and I haven't heard from him since. If I haven't spoken to him, I have left a voicemail message. I have even texted him. I really was trying to be understanding about being a small business but this is just ridiculous!

Not only that, but I'm getting new estimates to repair and fix the leak I supposedly already had done, and they are saying how *** the work was and that it wasn't done correctly and to do it right is nothing like David described in his estimate or did. Estimates are about $3K on top of the $2K I already paid.

No thanks

AI Highlights
  • - Paid $1500 for crown, cap, flashing; tarp left a month.
  • - No reply to invoice and work details.
  • - Inspector said flashing temporary; caulk may fail in cold.

So we hired this company for chimney work. We paid $1500.00 for new crown to be poured, new cap and flashing.

The work was done and tarp was put on crown to protect new mortar from rain.

We called and texted and emailed REPEATEDLY to every number associated with the business to please remove tarp, and send invoice detailing work done for home sale disclosure.

NO ONE HAS EVER returned correspondence. Eventually, due to my paralysing fear of heights, my pregnant wife had to climb onto the 2nd story roof to take tarp down to show the house....it had been there for a month.

Still havent gotten letter describing work done.

At our home inspection, the inspector noted that the flashing work was considered a temporary fix, because instead of replacing it, this company simply heavily caked some type of adhesive around existing flashing. They also said that we were charged double what a shoddy job should have cost. Furthermore, they said the caulk that was used is no good because it will contract in very cold weather and leak will be back.

We sent David these assessments to hear his rebuttal, but of course he has not responded to that either.

I recommend that anyone in need of chimney work go with ABSOLUTELY ANY OTHER COMPANY than First Call.

I don't understand how they are in business.

We will contact BBB next.

Thanks for stealing our money. Just wish I could give zero stars.

Chimney Repair

AI Highlights
  • - David said terra cotta pipe needed replacement and a stainless liner.
  • - First fire sent smoke into the living room.
  • - I paid $5,500 and have not heard back.

David inspected my chimney and told me the terra cota pipe needed to replaced and stainless steel liner system installed so that the chimney would draw correctly and I could burn firewood. At my first fire, the smoke billowed into my living room and I had to close the fireplace doors.

I have called him several times to get it corrected, but he has never returned my phone calls. I paid $5500 for the repairs.

Ripped off by dishonest business owner

AI Highlights
  • - April 2017: paid $1,323 for chimney cap and brick sealing.
  • - June 2018: smell returned; he refused to fix; court awarded $400 + $157 costs; unpaid.

Was having bad smell in fam rm coming from fireplace. Called David York at First Call chimney Service in April 2017 to look at it.

He inspected home, fireplace and chimney and said the smell was from moisture getting into fireplace through chimney. He recommended 3 services: full chimney cap; seal the chimney crown and seal all exterior chimney brick. Services all had warranties from 3 yr to lifetime. We hired him to do this work and paid him $1323.

In June 2018 the fireplace smell came back.

Called him and he at first said he would come out and reseal brick. Finally after couple weeks he said he wasn't going to do anything to fix it, regardless of warranty.

Took him to Small Claims Court and I got a judgement against him for $400 + 157 costs. It is now past the time limit and he hasn't paid the judgement.

This man is dishonest and unethical. Do not do business with him.

Stole down payment for chimney work. Working with KY AG to bring mail fraud charges against company related to a mailer David sent out with intent to defraud.

This business has been banned from HomeAdvisor.com yet he uses fake reviews from the company on his website. Also contacted the educational/licensing agency to inform.

This business is currently using media from said agency on his website. The will follow with suit.
