BEWARE! Foxx Cottage in Seneca Falls NY

Before settling in, check the third bedroom in the walkout basement and the rest of the lower level for signs of mold.

When we arrived on September 11, 2021 we noticed a damp musty odor in the basement bedroom area - bedroom three.

We found green mold/mildew growing on the back of the basement bedroom closet doors. We also found a large section of mold (black - not green) on the concrete block wall, on the back of the water pressure tank and wood ceiling in the lower level (walkout basement) closet that houses the water softener and pressure tank.

We notified the property management company, Finger Lakes Premier Properties, about the mold infestation right away. Despite sending 11 pictures of the contaminated areas over a three day period, the property management company did not clean the mold contaminated areas while we occupied the house. On our fourth day the property management company told us by email that we could leave but we werent able to find an equivalent house for the six of us with immediate occupancy in the Seneca Falls area.

Two members of our party had to sleep on first floor sofas during our entire stay to avoid the mold present in the third bedroom and water softener closet.

The mold in the contaminated areas was still untouched when we departed on September 16, 2021. We sent more pictures of the contaminated areas taken just before our departure to the property management company. The September 16 pictures documented the continued presence of the black and green mold from our first through last day.

Failure of the property management company to clean the contaminated areas ruined what would have otherwise been an enjoyable vacation in a nice house with a fabulous view. We received a small refund from the property management company, but it wasnt sufficient compensation for being exposed to mold, for not being able to use the lower half of the house and having to sleep on living room sofas for five consecutive nights.

We reserved the house through VRBO.

VRBO did not help us resolve the problem or help obtain any compensation or refund. We will never use VRBO again.

PS Pay attention to the sign above the dehumidifier telling renters to empty the dehumidifier pail.

The sign and dehumidifier are next to the third bedroom in the walkout basement. The dehumidifier pail has to be emptied a couple of times a day or more to control the dampness in the third bedroom.
