Federation of Metro Toronto Tenants Associations ripoff!
If you contact this group for advice they give you wrong legal information.
But to add insult to injury they will say they want to help your whole building and ask you to organize a meeting.
At that meeting they will try to get you and your neigbours to go door to door to sign up everybody for "memberships" in their group at $10 a person.
Then you never see them again.
And to make it even worse, they go to the City of Toronto, taking the list of all your neighbors you helped sign up to say they organized your building, did all the work, that all those tenants and your new Toronto Tenants Association supports them getting even more money from the city so they can expand their service.
They get $1/2 million a year from the city and only lie to us and give us bad legal advice!

This is a disgusting group that profits off of the misery of poor people.
When they come to your door demanding money, SLAM THE DOOR IN THEIR FACES.
And if a politician directs you to them that tells you never to vote for that corrupt politician!
Its bad enough their info is wrong but they try to sell you apartment insurance too! :(
The comments on FMTA are very typical of FMTA. They exist basically to police against tenants in Toronto organizing anything. They are paid half a million by the city to do it.
They seem to spend most of their time monitoring all public forums to attack and counter any one trying to expose them. The language is always the same. They especially hate me and one of the other named individuals because we are effective at warning people about them.

The slum landlords are the ones behind you Mr. Rourke, Robert Levitt and Paul York.

There are a couple of strange allies of landlords who continue to say and re-say the same lies on the internet. They have no credibilty in the real world.

And Dan from this group was telling us we need to vote for our city councillor to reelect him!
This is exactly what happened in our building a few years ago and they were even telling us who to vote for that we should reelect our city councillor!

I couldn't disagree more! The Federation has been helping tenants in my building for months now and have been extremely helpful!
They didn't ask me to pay anything, they were very clear that all of their services were free. The only thing I think you might be referring to is that you CAN buy a membership if you would like to get their newsletters and join their Board.
