"Wellbeing" App That Exploits Vulnerable Users with Hidden Charges and Predatory Billing

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full

Do not use this app. Fabulous uses deceptive practices to charge users for unwanted subscriptions.

What Happened:

Signed up 29 October for a "free trial" (£0.99 fee).

Same day, charged £14.99 hidden "setup fee" without explicit consent. Also discovered automatic enrollment in two additional subscription plans (£29.99 + £31.99) I never agreed to. Total: £61.98 in unauthorized charges.

Customer Support Response:

Refused to refund. Claimed charges were "non-refundable" and that "renewal date was displayed." Their logic: I should have cancelled before the renewal datebut they charged me on the same day I signed up.

Impossible.

How I Got Refunded:

Escalated through PayPal, cited UK consumer law. PayPal ruled in my favour on 1 November. Fabulous capitulated and refunded £14.99.

Only then did they issue a refundproving they knew the charge was illegitimate.

The Pattern:

This is not an isolated incident. Dozens of users across Reddit, Trustpilot, Apple Communities, and BBB report:

Same-day charges during "free trials"

Multiple unauthorized subscriptions

Charges continuing after cancellation

Deliberately obscured cancellation processes

Customer support refusing refunds

Why This Matters:

Fabulous targets vulnerable people seeking wellbeing support (ADHD, anxiety, stress) and exploits their executive function challenges to maximize billing revenue.

Legal Issues:

These practices violate UK consumer protection law:

Consumer Contracts Regulations 2013 (14-day cooling-off period)

Digital Markets, Competition and Consumers Act 2024 (express consent required for each charge)

Consumer Protection from Unfair Trading Regulations 2008 (misleading "free trial" claims)

Awful, do not sign up! Worst decision ever.

There is no one for customer service and unable to stop auto payments of $39.99.

Have canceled payments yet they continue. Rip off.

DO NOT GIVE THEM CARD INFO!!! SCAM SCAM SCAM They took $67 without my consent.

I asked for refund. They took $67more!!! Now they keep saying they resolved my issue and they absolutely have NOT! This in turn made me late on rent.

Now I have to pay an extra $100 for late rent because of them. It's a hassle dealing with them after they stole my money

Refused my refund after my card was used fraudulently to get a free trial

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full

My card was used to obtain a free trial. I contacted customer service and explained the situation via email.

I received a response saying that the deadline to cancel the subscription has already passed, so I'm not entitled to a refund. I replied, explaining that I have no knowledge of this subscription and have never downloaded or used the app. I was charged $19.99 not once, but twice on the same day. The customer responded with the same thing about the deadline.

How would I know there was a deadline if I never used the app? The customer now does not respond at all.

Not-so-Fabulous

Be careful before buying this app!!

I was refused a refund & called the CHASE Bank Fraud department. They will not only refund my money, but their Fraud team will be investigating how Fabulous deals with customer refunds.

Our story is similar to the many disgruntled customers all over the web (Just google "Fabulous App Fraud.").

We never activated our subscription b/c we did not want the app!! We were charged for two subscriptions in November (11/10 $1.00 & $49.00 and 11/24 $39.99 & $29.99) but we were not charged in Dec., Jan.

& Feb. The Chase Bank Fraud represented agreed that they didn't charge b/c they saw we never activated our subscription.

Fraudulent Charges

WARNING: Be cautious when signing up for a 7-day trial with this company. I canceled my trial after finding the product unsatisfactory, but over a month later, I was still charged $39.99.

When I log in, my account indicates I need to upgrade and offers another 7-day trial followed by the same $39.99 charge.

Customer service refuses to issue refunds, responding with a generic message. After checking recent reviews, I discovered dozens of others reporting similar fraudulent charges.

Charged on day 6 of 30 day extended free trial offer - subscription cancelled upon request for refund and still no refund.

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full
Original review updated Feb 26, 2024

Signed up for a 7 day free trial for The Fabulous app (thefabulous.co). Received an offer for 30-day free extended trial and signed up.

Meanwhile, they had already charged me 51.49 on day 6 of the original free trial.

When I noticed the charge and requested a refund, they wouldn't refund me due to "Apple's policies". Apple wasn't able to refund either, due to my late request (I would have normally cancelled the free trial on time, but because of the Fabulous app's extended 30 day offer, I didn't.) and referred me back to the app developer.

Fabulous still insist they are unable to provide refund. Without my consent, they charged 51.49 for a full year subscription while sending me an offer for a 30-day free pass which duped me into not checking the subscription.

Upon using the app the first time, they took my fingerprint which I now realise is a the red flag - I suspect it was used to authorize the charge. They have my 51.49, are unwilling to refund.

I am out of the money as well as access to their app.

After seeing how they treat their customers and run business, I no longer have interest to use or support this app. Waiting for my funds to be returned.
