Roofer Rip Off

July-Aug 2018: ETG is run by con-artists and liars. They conned me out of $9100 to put a new roof on my home. I didn't contact them about getting a new roof. My old roof was starting to fail, but I wasn't looking to hire a roofer. I did have my air-conditioning company install a solar attic fan and apparently that company contracted Edward T. Green (of ETG Construction) to do that job. When the job was complete, Edward knocked on my front door to tell me how bad my roof was and he could put a new roof on for me. I listened to him, which I now regret. I asked him to give me an estimate of a new roof. The next day, he and his wife visited my home to give me the estimate. He first said $10,000 for a new roof. I said it was way too high. He came down to $9100 and justified the high cost by saying how great and reputable his work would be. He said if I got bids from other companies they would be lesser money because the work would be lesser quality. I didn't know at the time that I was being conned by a man and his wife who run a company which does not hire professional roofers AND they don't know anything about properly installing a roof. I was conned and I learned my lesson. Let me tell you what they did do: they hired 2-3 unqualified day-laborers to install the shingles. The shingles were good quality, but the work was grade F for failure! It took 4 long days of those day-laborers clearly goofing off on the job and what work they did do was totally incompetent and a complete failure of roofing standards, as I later found out. My yard was left messy with nails and shingles and plastic trash everywhere. Edward's business outfit is so poorly run and unprofessional that he left a broken-down trailer full of trash parked in front of my house out on street for 6 whole days before removing it. After the "work" by Edward's crew was done with the job, I hired a professional roofer from a reputable, established company to inspect my roof. Pictures of the roof explained the numerous roofing flaws and problems that Edward's crew did to my home. The roofer said, "It's no good." As it is right now, it won't pass a home inspection and leaks and blown-off shingles are next on the list of things to go wrong. This is a $9100 headache. I am paying a new, professional, reputable roofer to tear off Edward's poor work and replace the roof, which I am paying for.....again. I am waiting to see if ETG Construction will refund my $9100 since I have contacted them through the BBB Houston to ask for a compete refund. I am giving ETG the chance to do the right, moral thing by refunding me. They have one chance to get it right. After that, we'll see what happens next. I am a widow, also, and I don't have tons of money to waste on mistakes like getting conned. I think Edward preys on the vulnerable people like widows, single women, and the elderly. If he comes knocking on your door or calling you asking for business, I hope you don't answer. This is why I'm posting my story in public, to save someone else the heartache Edward gave me.
