Ernies Boat Canvas ripped me off

Got an estimate from Ernie to get Bimini top and curtain enclosure for Trophy Bayliner. Paid $900 down. Asked for it to be a surprise for my husbands birthday. He agreed to install while husband was at work. (I wanted to put a giant bow on it for when he came home). Few days after I paid the deposit, I called to change plans and only do the bimini. He gave me a price of $425. I did not bother him with getting the difference in overpayment back. Just waited. I called a week before the requested delivery, spoke to secretary just to check on progress. No return call from Ernie. The day before my husbands birthday his guys showed up to install the top. It was late in the evening and my husband was standing right there. So, I was pissed. Next day I called to ask about the rest of my money and he went thru this *** about had to turn it into his bookkeeper, will send a check. I ask how much and he didn't know, had to check the ticket. A week later I get the check, he charged me right at $700!! 4 yds of material, 6 hours of labor and 2 hours install. Where did the 425 quote come from? The guys were here total of 10 minutes, 5 of that was listening to be complain. He totally ripped me off. Will never use him again or recommend him. I was warned that he was way to expensive. Dumb--- me did not listen. I also asked for the old curtain enclosure back, he threw it away, said I didn't need it. He needed it to get measurments to give me a price, why wouldn't I need it for someone else to do the same. Just a big disappointment and RIP OFF!!

Have a very similar problem with him now. Provides you the professional best in the business when he shows up.

Also can I tell you how many time he has installed almost every canvas in obx. The good old southern big.

Becomes a professional,,, ..xxxxxx after he gets his deposit. Never again.


Ouch! I would be frustrated as well for the simple fact of trying to surprise someone and not being able to stay in close contact with them.

But I must say on their behalf, I have used them for years and LOVE their work. I know they do their best to give good service but I have seen with my eyes their secretary not staying on top of all the messages and prioritizing issues. I wouldn't jump down the company as a whole.

Maybe instead recommend a new secretary to the owner. I hate to see such good quality be slandered over an inadequate secretary.
