Horrible sneaky service

Dear Enercare Customer Relations,

I am writing to express my frustration and disappointment regarding my Enercare Protection and Maintenance Plan for my former property

I have been paying for this service since September 5, 2024, under the understanding that it would help protect and maintain my furnace. This plan does not involve any rental equipment and has cost me over $500 over the past two years.

In May 2026, our furnace stopped working and we finally needed to use the service we had been paying for.

The first technician who attended our home was professional and advised that a replacement part needed to be ordered. He informed us that we would be contacted when the part arrived.

When the second technician returned to install the part, we were told that the furnace and air conditioning unit needed to be replaced entirely. We were shocked to learn that these costs would be our responsibility despite having paid for a protection plan for nearly two years. At that point, it became clear that the plan provided very limited value beyond covering a service call.

As a result, I contacted Enercare to cancel the plan.

However, I was informed that I am under contract until February 2027. This was surprising, as I was never aware that I was committed to a contract extending beyond two years. I believed the plan was operating on a month-to-month basis.

Since then, I have moved to a new residence. Because I have installed a brand-new furnace at my new home that is covered by a manufacturer's warranty, I no longer require Enercare's protection services.

When I requested to transfer the remaining term of my contract to my new address, I encountered further issues.

I was told that the transfer would require me to enter into a new one-year contract. I do not agree to this.

A transfer is not a renewal. Based on the information published on Enercare's website, customers are permitted to transfer their protection and maintenance plans to a new home at no charge. The website also states that if a customer does not transfer coverage to their new home, the remaining installments of the contract may be billed out.

I am specifically attempting to transfer the existing coverage so that I can fulfill the remainder of the current agreement without incurring additional charges or entering into a new contract.

Furthermore, the website indicates that Enercare does not charge transaction or activation fees for moving properties, and that transferred plans can be credited accordingly. Therefore, I do not understand why I am being told that I must sign a new one-year agreement in order to transfer an existing contract.

To be clear, I am requesting one of the following:

Immediate cancellation of the contract without penalty, given the circumstances described above; or

Transfer of the existing contract to my new address with no changes to the contract terms, allowing it to expire at the end of the current contract period in February 2027, without any automatic renewal or requirement to enter into a new agreement.

I am not willing to sign a new one-year contract. I am also not willing to continue paying for services at a property where I no longer reside or to pay out the remainder of the contract while being denied the ability to transfer it as described in your own policies.

In addition, I have found the customer service experience extremely frustrating.

I have received inconsistent information from different representatives, making it difficult to understand my options and resolve this issue.

I am requesting a prompt review of my account and a written response outlining how Enercare intends to resolve this matter. I would appreciate hearing from a supervisor or customer relations representative who can address this issue directly.
