Fall?

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full
Does this look like the result of a fall? After this happened everyone that had anything to do with this woman slowly stopped working at Emeritus, Tucson. From the hospital she was moved out of Emeritus and into a more caring loving place where she never had these severe injuries again. She had "fallen" on several other cases. Laundry was a hit or miss kind of affair. When the people at Emeritus knew someone from the family was coming, they bathed her, cleaned her room and did her laundry. Most of the time there were only a handful of qualified employees. Have other friends with family in other Emeritus facilities and the care is just as bad. When Emeritus took over a lot of money was spent on new decorations and furniture. Meals started getting awful. Service was just an afterthought.

TERRIBLE facility - PLEASE read BEFORE placing a loved one at this location!!

I am a former employee of Emeritus at Palm Court, Hilton Head Island, SC. I know nothing about this particular situation but was witness to numerous, outrageous behaviors and acts of neglect at this facility. This is the reason I left this facility. Though my heart went out to the residents, I could no longer emotionally handle the circumstances. There were residents that had no business being at this facility; it was below the level of care necessary for their condition. The doctor utilized by this facility routinely signed off on patients being at "the appropriate level of care" when this was in no way true and accurate. There were residents that were contracted, with bed sores to the bone, that were not capable of moving on their own at all - these residents belonged in a skilled nursing center. In this location, no patient lifts (i.e., Hoyer lifts) are allowed, yet there were residents that were in grave need of these. As employees, we were expected to physically lift and move these residents without assistance of any kind - be it a lift or with the assistance of another person. This is wrong, and against the law. It is wrong first and foremost for the residents that need a greater level of care and it is wrong to expect employees to endanger their physical health that are simply trying to provide care for them. Additionally, on a daily basis I witnessed the staff routinely cutting meals short simply to "get finished." Residents that were in need of assistance eating were not given the help they needed. When I would take the time to assist residents in eating I would be severely criticized by other employees because I was "wasting time." It was routine for other caregivers to quickly get residents in bed after dinner so they could then find a comfortable spot to fall asleep for the night. I was outraged! Residents were not given the respect they deserved. They were not given decent care - at all. The Director was acutely aware of all of these issues, yet did nothing. (this person is still the Director as of this writing (03/2015). Her sole concern was filling beds; not with the welfare of the residents under her ultimate care. At one point she even questioned the nurse in charge when it was stated the resident needed to go to the hospital; she wanted to "wait and see" how the resident was in an hour or so - the nurse called the hospital for immediate transfer. The Director's concern was over the possibility of losing a filled bed - disgusting! There were ongoing issues with staff problems - okay, I will state it loud and clear...it was a black/white issue. The majority of the care-giving staff was African-American and there was no doubt that "they" did not like it when a white staff person was hired. This was widely known and discussed. There were numerous and ongoing occasions where extremely racial comments were made against white staff from the African-Americans, which the Director and other management were acutely aware of yet nothing was ever done about it! Reverse racism was alive and well on a daily basis and not only tolerated by management, but completely accepted and excused! The Director clearly appeared very intimidated and scared of her African-American care-giving staff. There were instances of racial epithets thrown very publicly (in this middle of the dining room) toward white staff from the blacks, white care-givers being cussed at, etc., yet NOTHING was ever done! IF the situation had been reversed, I cannot begin to imagine what the backlash would have been. The Director has no business being in the position she is in - her concern is NOT with the resident's welfare, but clearly was with her bottom line....how many beds she had filled. The overall atmosphere of the place was dismal - it was a very sad place. It made my heart hurt for the residents, as well as the family members that had no idea of what it was truly like for their loved ones. "Activities" for the residents were dismal and severely lacking! There was a television in the front room, but there was not cable because the Director didn't think it was necessary. Instead, there were DVD's available but most of them didn't work. The Director didn't want to spend the money on cable television; apparently she did not feel the residents were "worth" the expense. Sadly, I could go on, but I just cannot. Though I loved the residents, and had the utmost of respect for them, I just could not "take" it any longer; I had to leave. It is my understanding that this Emeritus location has been purchased by another company and I can only hope that the numerous and severe wrongs will be corrected - as quickly as possibly! However, I don't see how the new company could keep the current Director in place - if they are truly interested in positive change. I have a very special place in my heart for the elderly; I'm not sure why, but I love and respect them more than I could ever express - they are interesting, captivating, and to be revered! Emeritus is never a place I would want anyone I know - or don't know - to ever have to be! From someone that cares deeply about the elderly and the care and respect they receive - and so richly deserve. PLEASE, PLEASE do ALL you can to check out any location you are considering for you elderly loved one...PLEASE!!

Palm Court in Hilton Head, SC Director needs to be replaced & locked up for her illegal activities!

Horrible, dishonest treatment of residents & family members from the top CEO (Granger Cobb) at Seattle, Washington to low life director (lorena best) at Emeritus at Palm Court, Hilton Head, S.C.! Supposedly, An employee overheard me tell my twin brother (resident at Palm Court) that I would try to help him break out of there!

This NEVER happened!! I have requested several times the name of this employee without any response. My requests & letters ignored! My twin brother's entire immediate family has been denied ALL telephone communication & strict visitation since this LIE has been supposedly overheard!

We live 800 miles away & are required to have a "selected" babysitter with us at all times if we visit. Our only allowed communication are letters/cards that are opened & reviewed prior to my brother receiving them. Only his wife's family is allowed...NO blood relatives! Really?

Why are they allowed to get away with this? My brother is a millionaire & his wife is afraid we want his money! We don't! His money is yours & Emeritus at Palm courts money.

We don't care. We just want to have assess to our dear bother before he succumbs to his illness! Shove your precious money up your A@@ Nancy!!

Don't allow any family member to ANY Emeritus facility but especially at Palm Court in Hilton Head, S.C.!

From my family's experience Evil lurks & runs rampant there!

there!

a@@ Nancy!

Dishonesty, Discrimination & denial of basic Civil Rights from top CEO in Seattle to low life Director of Palm Court in Hilton Head, S.C.

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full
In June 2014 I was accused, supposedly by an employee, of telling my twin brother (resident at Emeritus at Palm Court, Hilton Head, S.C. 29926) that I would try to break him out of there! THIS NEVER HAPPENED!! Since this lie surfaced my brother's entire immediate family has been banned from all telephone communication, limited visitation & our mail is opened & inspected prior to my brother receiving it! I have sent certified mail to CEO in Seattle telling him of the lies, illegal activities happening at this facility also requesting the name of this imaginary employee (I at NO time said this to my brother thus it has to be a figment of some evil persons sick mind) without any response from him! Nothing!! Not a single word! The so called director was unprofessional (rolling her eyes) & hostile to questions & concerns asked by immediate family upon my brother's arrival to Palm Court. I hope & pray when Brookfield takes over she gets fired & prevents her from ever working in the healthcare industry! My brother's admitting physician is a puppet on a string to my brother's wife by having him admitted there! He's too dumb to know what appropriate level of care means for vast differences in patient acuity! Bed ridden patients needing skilled nursing facilities instead are there just so all beds are all filled risking patient's lives! Thankfully my brother was, the last time I saw him was ambulatory but that was over a year ago! It upset him to see other's in such a bad state. No Back Door is their motto!! This entire organization needs inspected from top to bottom! I pray Brookdale's Senior Living's merger shuts Emeritus down for good, resolves the dishonest illegal activities & hires a well educated professional Director at Palm Court!

Undependable services, inappropriate comments towards resident.

Several time my relative was not provided medication as scheduled due to tardiness of care-giver. A complaint was lodged and nothing was done. Another time the head of nursing made inappropriate comments regarding relative's personal hygiene. Highly insulting and inappropriate, especially for someone in this position. This is a facility that showed minimal dedication towards care of residents. The food was bland and not very tasty. The activities director was also rude and became irritated when asked by scheduled performers or presenters did not show up. Went out of her way to pick a dispute with family member when question. Glad to be gone.

Emeritus at Stonecreek Lodge.Louisville, KY. I worked for this company 5 years ago and i couldn't believe how the residents were treated. Emeritus Senior Living - Senior Care Services Review from Orlando, Florida

This review is for Emeritus at Lakeland in Lakeland, Florida on Lakeland Hills Blvd. I am a former employee as a housekeeper/ Dietary Aide/Floater. When I worked there, I witnessed residents good had been left in their rooms over night bleeding and injured after falling. A couple of them never recovered and died shortly after. Residents who didn't receive their once a week baths.(How much money are these ppl paying to only get one bath a week?) A Memory care resident/patient left on the floor in his rooms hollering for help for up to 10 mins. I was early to work and was sitting outside off the clock at.6:30 am., I kept hearing him holler. Wondering why no one was going to check on this man hollering. So i went inside and went back to memory care to locate a resident aide. When I did I informed her that the man in room 73 was hollering for help. Another aide rudely and loudly said to me "Don't be coming back here wit Dat ***, i know what he do. If he put himself on duh flo, he can stay on duh flo. I ain't wanna hear dat sht!" I told the other aide again that there was a man in room 73 hollering for help. I reported the other to her supervisor. Nothing was done, no punishment and more disturbingly, she kept her job. A 98 year old resident (in assisted living, not memory care) came to me crying and scared. Said that another resident in memory care, a man that had just moved into emeritus sexually assaulted her in her room after pushing her in her wheelchair to her room. I reported this, it was shrugged off. Within a couple days there was another assault on another resident in a wheelchair by the same man. Again written reports, and again it was swept under the rug. From then on other residents were watching out for and protecting the lady residents especially the ones in wheelchairs to the best if their ability as well as myself a housekeeper when I was at work. During my training, the head housekeeper first name Yomerely instructed me to clean the toilets with a toilet brush that was actually a dish sponge that's made just like a toilet brush. It was in one of those plastic sand pails filled with diluted floor cleaner. She then showed me how to also clean the whole entire toilet with it straight out of the toilet, seat and all. From there she dipped it back into the sand bucket and put it into the sink and "cleaned" the sink and counter tops with it also. She then wiped the toilet and sink with dry brown paper towels. The bucket and same cleaner was used in every room unless it ran out of cleaner, then it would be filled up again. I DID NOT FOLLOW HER INSTRUCTIONS. AND I REPORTED HER METHOD TO THE SUPERVISOR AND LATER THE DIRECTOR ALSO. Nothing was done. Yomerely is still the Head Housekeeper now [Sept.2014] as far as I know. The dining room for the memory care is mopped by the head housekeeper with plain water as well as the resident's rooms which are moped with the same water and vise versa. The tables and counters are rarely ever wiped off by anyone Ever. If they ever are it's usually with straight water. Disinfectant isn't a priority there. They use TB cleaner (sometimes) the floors rarely get vacuumed properly; If at all, usually it's just the center skipping the thick dust ring around the base boards. I did the best job I could and was constantly harassed by the head housekeeper and pulled into the office for being "Too Slow". Although I always cleaned every room and didn't skip any before my shift ended. There's hostility in the work place between employees. Usually involving the cook and laundry lady With other employees not each other. The laundry lady even said she was diagnosed as bi-polar. When i asked her to please put a residents sheets in the place his family placed them And wanted them, and where i could find them myself. She said "Wherever i put them, that were they be. Why you even taking to me?.. I don't feel good, I ain't wanna hear you right now." (place seems to have a shared personality and intelligence level) That woman then proceeded to tell me to follow her outside to handle my problem with her in a more intellectually challenged grammar and violent demeanor. I reported this also only to again get the reprimand and the laundry lady got respected. The cook was training me in the kitchen and in my 3rd night there. She gave me plates of food and instructed me to take them to so and so (i didn't know the residents by name yet) i asked her very politely which table they say at (tables were numbered) she said "I ain't got time for Dis ***, i gots a headache!" And wouldn't tell me what table. That was actually my first problem there. I immediately went to the only management I seen which was the director. He "talked to her"..whipdy doo! Under new management after Emeritus was to be merging with Brookdale Due to all the lawsuits against them (Dateline has the story) Things were supposed to be bettered for everyone there. A team of fix it's to make every Emeritus @ Lakeland resident and their employees lives and jobs easier. Ha' my A double S! I am an employee who for 8 months suck in there through being bullied like a Jr. High student. Was only late one time due to no fault of my own. I showed up 3 HOURS Early everyday because my vehicle broke down and i caught rides. Got wrote up for not coming in on my scheduled day off. Got wrote up for not coming to work even though I have them my court paper saying I had to be in court a week in advance. Got told I was unreliable when i handed my supervisor my Dr. note that said i had Strep Throat. I was originally scheduled to work from 8am to 3pm. I asked to clock in at 7 am when i started having to go in at 5:45 am in order to get there. They agreed. When my ride fell through and i wasn't going to be able to make it to work any other way than the city bus and the route i had to take with the first bus for me out in the morning at 6:48 am commute to the bus terminal before i could catch the Lakeland highlands bus to work could only get me there at 7:50am. So I pleaded with them to let me go back to my old schedule. They refused and told me to just come in late so they could terminate me when i says i didn't want to quit my job. I RESIGNED! Just the other day, I needed a paper filled out by them for the food stamp office. The director of Emerius (who talks about her past attempt of suicide in Co. meetings) rudely refused to fill out my loss of income government document. I WAS DENIED FOOD STAMPS! I fed my 3 children and husband instant mashed potatoes tonight and nothing else, luckily i had some butter too. I did without eating. I'd like to say that that is the most filthy, ghetto, discriminatory, non-compassionate money grappling, greedy place..the Pit of ***, governed by Satan himself and I wouldn't put a rodent in there much less a loved one. And I'd also like to say.. Dana.. KARMA chick..KARMA!

I agree with you 100 Percent, I was a former employee too and I tell you, it's just as bad as being in prison from aboard another Nation whether you're a Resident or an Employee or Employer.

It's not like North America is a Capitalism Country where a lot of Freedom and Economical events are going on or other workers treating employees with respect as well as to the residents. All the best to you

I worked at Emeritus in Poulsbo, Washington for almost 3 years. I wanted to quit from the start, but the residents kept me coming back everyday. It's a horribly managed company. I saw negligence and abuse covered up. Any complaints I made resulted in a mad dash to cover it up. A resident complained to an outside agent who then asked management about it. They lied and called her a liar and tried very hard to get her out. They didn't succeed, but she was traumatized from it and (of course) felt very unwelcome. We both learned to never complain about horrible things, it doesn't result in anything. I was given a raise and not paid it. They promised to back pay me, but never did. The last 3 months I wasn't paid due to an office error that was never corrected. I fought with them from October to April, but eventually decided to leave it because I was moving out of state and didn't want to have to keep coming back for court. I worked with amazing people here, residents and coworkers both. I thank them for that.

Emeritus Senior Living - Assisted Living Review from Lakeland, Florida

Also, the building is full of mold, especially rooms 20 and 21. In the AL section. When I reported MOLD. I was scolded for saying "MOLD". And told that I wasn't "trained know what mold is". I know what mold is! It was under the sink in room 20. When I sprayed it with cleaner it scattered intheair like black/green powder. It looked like mold, smelled like mold, gave me horrible headaches when I entered those rooms. Residents who were in those rooms became ill and had to go to the ER multiple times and were hospitalized. Only to get better until they returned to their "lovely home" at Emeritus. The resident in room 21 didn't live there long. She was in the hospital with headaches more than she was there. Her family moved her out. I don't know if they ever knew the truth or not. Room 20 was evacuated for a few weeks. Cleaned up and supposedly everything was taken care of. But before I left, the smell that was never completely gone was coming back stronger and I found the "stuff" under the bathroom sink again. I was planning to make a written report to management and a written work order to maintenance. But never got the chance to. Also, Emeritus will house anyone whether they're equipped, trained, qualified todoso or not. They even let a woman who's bones were so brittle that when you just touched her they felt like they were breaking and she'd scream in pain. They'd only have ONE aide to take care of the residents unless they were training someone new. I was a housekeeper and had to help the aide put the brittle boned old lady in her bed who was screaming in pain because the aide made her stand up to change her pull-up and then couldn't her to get her back into her bed. Her ankle was twisting and well, it wasn't the aides fault. She was only doing her job the way she was trained to do. Most of the aides there aren't required to have any training in the medical field whatsoever. A couple of them are actual lisenced CNA's who aren't even allowed to access any concerns with their medical training. They aren't allowed to apply their training if it isn't in compliance with the Emeritus ways and procedures. The only one who is allowed to make the call that someone has a potential "fever" even..is the head nurse on staff. That somehow seems to be over and the boss of the director herself with running the place, even down to disciplinary procedures with the staff. She undermines the director's authority in Co. meetings..in fact, there seems to be no real respect for any one's position in the building. During the Co. meetings everyone is required to "Say something good" (the..Tell me something good catch theme melody is a joke amongst the staff and NOT at all smiled about.Because, if you don't have any ventures to talk about (going out to eat at fancy restaurants or good fortune to tell everyone and all you have is..well, I woke up still breathing today or i managed to pay my light bill, So I'm grateful for that. You get kinda cut down for it. While the director and the other top of the totem pole their brags about their trips out of town, nights out with their family and friends or each other. Then you're asked if there's any concerns to address about the residents or system in the work place. Some ppl are allowed to talk. But usually only if it was about their own complaints about their jobs and how they were unhappy. Most are not, like myself who was cut off really quickly and treated like a know nothing nobody on a daily basis. Especially if it was concerning any real concerns involving any of the residents. They'd shut the meeting down pronto and it was "Back to work!" A whole 30 mins. Wasted time that always put me behind in my work to go listen to these snooty big wigs brag and belittle, and like I said before..The director talked about her attempted suicide in the Co. meeting room before opening the meeting discussion. That day took 45 mins. from me and put me an hour behind in my work. I found it very distasteful and very unprofessional to say the least. As well as the nurse dropping the f-bomb every other word out of her mouth while outside smoking in front of myself and other staff. But reprimanded me for saying " You dint have to be a B-word about it" to a rude, confrontational Co worker. And agreed with that Co-worker (laundry lady) that I called her the b-word in using that statement. I was reprimanded, but she was allowed be rude and speak ghetto all she wanted. I was told everytime there was an issue with the other Co-workers who spoke to me saying things like ..."why you even taking to me, I don't feelse good..I don't wanna be hearing this ***!"; Don't be coming back here wit dat ***, I know what he do, if he put himself on duh flo, he can stay on duh flow..don't be coming back here wit dat *** to.." I ain't got time foe did ***, I got a headache! ( from 3 different Co-workers) That I was misunderstanding them. That it was just a tone issue, that some people have tone issues. Um' I know what a damned tone issue is, I have injuries to my vocal chords and if I even try to just raise my voice a single key tone, it could and does come out at a scream at times. Tone has absolutely NOTHING to do with choice of words and a rude attitude. These people who are in charge of taking care of the elderly and establishing and maintaining a good environment/ home for them, are so off mark. They also try to convince their staff that every single resident there has Alzheimer and/or Dementia. Even the residents in the AL section so to be able to ignore and hide real problems like complaints of neglect, sexual assault, how long they called for help before anyone ever found them in need of help etc. These were other issues I remembered. This complaint/review is for Emeritus at Lakeland. In Lakeland, Florida on Lakeland Hills Blvd. Please excuse any typos. I am mobile. Also correction to my last post. It was the Lakeland Hills bus not the Lakeland Highlands bus. Just being complete in my message.

My mother was sent to hospital and it was 10 days before I was notified. Emeritus sent her without my cell phone and incorrect contact person (my brother who cannot speak due to a stroke). The hospital refused to release her back to Emeritus. Unfortunately after a weekend at another facility she was re admitted to the hospital where she died 5 days later. Now Emeritus is billing me for September (she left their facility 8/25/14), stating I had to give 30 notice- even with her death and the fact she had not been there since August which was paid for in full. I am consulting a lawyer and have notified the State of DE of my concerns about her last fall. Her care over the past 5 years had decreased and she really needed more direct nursing care. When I made arrangement to move her to a new facility, Emeritus reported to the new facility my mother, which was not true. She had dementia and was very passive and rarely spoke or even walked well in the past few years. Needless to say the new facility declined to accept her based on Emeritus' report.

10/26/2014 Update- I called the corporate office and left a complaint. Two weeks later, I again received a call about September's payment, saying maybe we could pay for the first 12 days of September (my mother died in the hospital on 9/12).

I refused. However, unknown to me, there was a message on my phone from the previous day.

The director had called saying they were unaware the hospital would not release her back to Emeritus, despite my explaining this to the business manager and the nursing supervisor. The director stated I did not have to pay for September.

Horrible facilites - Avoid

We've had two loved ones in facilities that Emeritus bought out. Both went down hill badly in all areas. Very poor care and high cost. Dirty and horrible food with minimal choices. Emeritus has taken both of these facilities and turned good, reputable, comfortable and safe facilities into places you would not want to live, nor would you want your loved one to endure. On top of cutting WAY back on staff, they place little value on caring for their residents. We had an experience where they neglected to call 911 all day long when they knew our loved one was in distress. They also neglected to contact us. This on top of poor quality food prepared by unqualified people, the cutting back of the services offered and the rent increasing, make it obvious that you do not want to choose Emeritus. I am referring to two totally different facilities in separate states, so it's clear that Emeritus is the problem.

Emeritus at Bakersfield: No. Just No.

Regarding the Emeritus at Bakersfield facility: The "memory care" unit is horribly understaffed and a dangerous place for people to live. The director, Ronnette "Ronnie" Lelfore, is dishonest and will straight up ignore your phone calls if you want information about your loved one. There are smaller residences called "board and care" facilities that have a much better patient to caregiver ratio and actually care about their residents (I wish I had known these existed earlier). The staff at Emeritus provides the bare minimum of what is required by law, and will treat your family member as if their safety and comfort means nothing. There is no concern for administering medications at the correct timing intervals, helping family members to reduce fall risk for residents, nor ensuring that residents are fed a proper diet. Please take your money and your loved one elsewhere.

Emeritus Senior Living - Senior Care Services Review

Went to visit my mother in law at Emeritus , St. AUGUSTINE , back in August. Her room was filthy. The smell of urine was unbearable . Her bed was disgusting and as soon as we entered the building the staff said they couldn't get her to eat. We got her into her wheel chair , and as we were wheeling her out one of the staff girls said she would change her bed. We took her to the little eating area where they brought her a tray of mystery meat, which my husband said was like tasting the bottom of a shoe and just as leathery. While we sat there they came with medication for her. Then we went up to the game room/ library and out on their balcony for a while. While we were up there they came with more medication for her. We were away from her room a good 45 minutes to an hour. As we wheeled her back to her room , the girl who said she would change my mother in laws bed was in a staff room with a bunch of other staff members not doing anything. She hollerd out that she didn't make it in to change the bed yet. My sister in law and I did it. The cost for the DRUGS , URINE SOAKED CARPET , MYSTERY FOOD and TOTAL LACK OF CARE IS $5600.00 a month. You can't tell me that for that amount of money they can't clean a bed and replace the carpet in her room. Besides breaking every health code in the U. S, these facilities are a disgrace to AMERICA and should be shut down.
