Elburn Police Department
Elburn the next Fox Lake
The Elburn Police Department is very greedy and petty. The State of Illinois had announced that people had an extra 30 days to purchase their license plate stickers this year.
This due to the fact that there were no notices sent out this year because of state cut backs. A person would believe that this would be honored throughout the state. No, my registration expired by 2 weeks and I received a $40.00 local ordinance violation. Elburn has a reputation for writing citations over petty offenses and this is true!
Would the Illinois State Police please investigate the town of Elburn and their police department?
Officers have a less than professional reputation and the police department preys on out of town visitors which they can ticket over petty issues. Where does this money go??

One big extortion racket.Be very careful when driving to the Metra railway train. Long freight train delays en route purposely done to cause motorists looking to make the sparsely running Metra train to speed up - and the police are ready for you. It's all contrived to get your money and is a disgusting way to "do business."
Do not take driving supervision course there if ticketed - not recognized even in Illinois, and does not reduce anything.
Avoid Elburn, Geneva, Saint Charles (La Fox) and other small towns along this railway line. I will not relocate there as a result of the corruption (imo) so the bad actions of the police and courts cost the state lots of lost tax revenue dollars from me and others I've warned about this.
Maybe some DECENT state rep can look into this - visitors want to feel welcomed, not hunted by the speed-trap police and complicit courts!
Had a nice visit there with everything else, except for these stinkers who drive away visitors to the state - and, worth repeating, cost state tax revenue dollars Illinois might have had if not for the small-town speed traps/extortion/ rip-off "court-supervised traffic school" - a real joke!
DON'T DRIVE IN ELBURN, ILLINOIS - SPEED TRAPS!
There are long freight trains that pass through this small town and surrounding little towns that cause motorists to speed up to make the Metra raiway train in Elburn, Geneva, and other towns like it along the railway train line. The police there know this and set speed traps that drop from 55 to 30 immediately as you approach the railway. I think there is also complicity in that the police and freight train companies "time it" so that based on the long wait at the railroad crossing for the freight train to pass, motorists have to speed up to make the Metra railway train or have to wait an hour or two for the next one. Then they "get you" as you approach, if not sooner. Police there especially look for out of town plates. I have an impeccable driving record over many years and decided not to relocate to Illinois for the reason of this corruption (my opinion), even cutting my otherwise pleasant trip short - so the state lost a lot of tax and other revenue from me and others I've told (and am telling here) not to go there. The state is corrupt (again, my opinion but look at the politicians and what's going on there!) and there are better, legitimate ways to make money.
Avoid these little towns in Illinois - they are there to take your money. And especially DO NOT sign up for the very overpriced "supervision" driving course that they claim will result in a lesser fine - this is just another trap the courts there have with a local driving school to extort more money from you. Many states do not recognize the "supervision" course, including Illinois! Beware of anything Illinois police/politics/court related.
Other than that, I had a wonderful time and liked everything else. These STINKERS with the speed traps and complicit others ruin it for the rest of the state - and, worth repeating, cost them major tax revenue and other revenues by causing good citizens to shun the state based on the improprieties of a few.
I hope a GOOD, DECENT Illinois state representative sees this and takes the necessary actions to clean that stink up so the visitors feel welcomed, not hunted.Good riddance to the inflexible speed-trap stinkers there who make visitors feel unwelcome and ruin it for the other residents there who are genuinely nice and good people (yes, they all get painted and tainted by the same brush based on the actions of the few bad ones).
