Dave Murray is a predator
Hired Dave Murray to build an addition on my Home. He took forever to get what work was done completed.
It was verbal abuse, drama, lies and excuses from him day after day. We consulted a lawyer who advised us the best time to end the relationship is after 45 days of 'no improvements on our project'. This makes it very simple to negate any Lien placed against your property. I elected to do this just to be rid of his nonsense, despite the fact he owes me another $50k in work.
My Legal suit is waiting to see if he survives.
My Lawyer has advised that you can't get blood from a stone and he will not survive long enough to make payment on anything he owes me. I have until December 2019 to decide. I don't think he is going to make it until then. I have a good lawyer who is advising me not to waste more money on this character.
I wish I had done my home work better before hiring him.
Buyer beware, Canadian Civil system is powerless to beat down a thug like this. They can go on surviving for decades before the systems in Canada catch up to these guys.
Preferred solution: Full refund
David Murray cheats disabled ex-military man of his $9,000.00
Still waiting for windows and doors. Many promises of Mr.
Murray to call us but he hasn't. We are out the $9000.00 plus the $5000.00 grant money.
Finally got ahold of Mr. Murray, it appears that he changed his cell number and hadn't notified all of his customers yet.
I notified Mr. Murray that we were very concerned when we found out that his phone number was unasigned and we couldn't reach anyone at the other...
Late spring 2018 David Murray of EcoLife Home Improvements sold my wife and I windows and doors for our house, install date was scheduled for Sept/Oct 2018. Windows doors have not been installed, phone disconnected.
He has ran off with our $9000.00 and being disabled and unable to work his actions may have sunk our family. Any info on where he is would be appreciated
Working under a new name Owner his wife !
Buyer beware!! Rumour has it David Murray (ex)owner of Ecolife Home Improvements is now working for Maple Ridge Management owner Pamela Murray ( Facendi) his wife.
Apparently his wife open up a business and they are going and getting people to sign new contracts to finish up their work started by Ecolife.
Do not give any money up front. He has no money , in court he is waiting to apply for legal aid to represent him for his 23 fraud charges against him.
Don't do business with Ecolife
Old, Disabled, or Illiterate? Boy, does Dave have the deal for you!!! 100% money GONE guarantee!!!
Our story.... Friends of mine made an inquiry about windows and doors through Ecolife at the Chemmy Mall. Before they knew it, and in spite of both being basically illiterate, Dave Murray had them sign 4 BLANK copies of a contract.
Murray then attended the bank with them to remortgage their home and argued with the manager for more $$$$. He filled in his contracts for the full amount of that mortgage, and when they listened to their gut and told their lawyer about his behaviour, their lawyer called Dave Murray and told him to get lost. Murray found his way into their driveway minutes later demanding that cheque under threats of “taking everything they had”.
They finally relented, and the rest and their money was history. He did minimal work on their house and left it in a state of disrepair. The wrong windows were installed, and a relative of theirs fell through the open deck that was covered with styrofoam, and severely injured her back.
He put a lien on their house in retaliation, and it was on there for YEARS! The money they got from small claims (only by surprising his account with a order of garnishment) was held in limbo because he played the courts with delays and more.
He is a master manipulator, a con man extraordinaire, and more importantly, I haven’t heard of ANYONE that has dealt with him that hasn’t been threatened and bullied. That is his tactic, and he uses it constantly!
My goal is to encourage and help anyone that needs it to file a claim with the Ontario Consumer Protection Act. This isn’t an agency that just logs complaints, they can actually file for criminal charges against him which would include jail time depending on the circumstance.
We will be holding a town hall meeting shortly and have invited various agencies to attend (police, media, political representation). It’s time to turn the tables on Murray and take this guy out for once and for all. NO MORE McMURRAY VICTIMS!
No windows yet after 1 year

Another Victim not a Troll...
To whom it may concern. We signed a contract with Mr. Murray back in spring of 2018 (not February) back dated by the president/saleman. We also fell into the 50% deposit trap. We were promissed a reasonable time line which is now surpassed by 7 months. After countless excuses we have now given up on this company and trying our case to small claims as we believe it is the only way to get some results... If you decide to sign with this company this will be your experience. He will ask for a 50% deposit for materials. Once you agree he will horace you till the money is in his hands then you will never hear from him untill you say the words "cancel my contract". He will try to talk you out of cancelling if that does not work Mr. Murray will escalate his efforts by uttering court threats or bullying his way out. If you dare write a negative review on his golden prize winning facebook page he follow by threaten slander charges "my lawyer will be serving you papers". Up to date I have yet to hear a case on his behalf on this matter. My question to him is it slander to solicit positive reviews with a contest from people who are not clients? If you do not comply with his wishes you can even expect excessive calling or even an unexpected visit from him just to yell at you! Terrible people skills for a professional don't you think? Now if everyone would get charged with slander for negative post on facebook well we just found a cure for online bullying Mr. Murray!
Here is what I learned by dealing with this man:
ONE: Do your researsh on the company before making that call. Even if you know people who work for them.
TWO: Do not give a 50% down. No reputable company needs more than 10% if anything.
THREE: If you have to put a deposit always use a CREDIT CARD. This is important because you can REVERSE YOUR PAYMENT at anytime. We know of a few clients of Ecolife Home Improments Inc who were successful in reversing their payment months after the deposit was provided.
Thank you a concerned citizen!

This review was posted by me Tony Nash And should not be anonymous I have nothing to hide i speak the truth i am thanking everyone who took the time to read. And i am truly sympathetic with all who have been affected by this companies ethics.
I may have lost money but hopefully what is posted about bankruptcy, is true and our prayers have been answered and he will have no more victims. Thanking every who wrote articles and posts this proves if we band together nothing is impossible. i hope to have one more post that would be criminal charges then i will let it go. Sincerely Tony Nash We should all send France Gelinas office a call or e-mail to push our elected government to at least pay our rebates here in the Sudbury region since we have all lost money on this program and if it would have been monitored correctly this could never have happened to all of us, this would sure help offset the money we lost or at least let us write it off on our taxes as non taxable income with proper documentation.
and garnish his wages for life so this can not happen again. I would like to thank France Gelinas office and Adele for all the hard work they have done in taking the time to hear my story and helping me.
Also A big thanks has to go to Matt Durnan of Northern Life for printing my story. there are very many people i have to thank for there time reading and listening to my story.
He is in court again March 13, settlement.
Ecolife going to court again tomorrow in small claims court again trying to get away because Dave will cry the blues saying he has no money
Anyone wanting to know more about how many people he has taken money from should go on Facebook to Victims of Ecolife Home Improvements & Dave Murray - Sudbury & Area 2019 and see how far spread this infection is. Also there are victims he acquired through Union Gas rebates which he also took money for and never returned, but I'll let them tell their story
I believe this whole story, even though he didn't scam me through GreenOn rebates. I hired him on Nov.
6, 2018 to build a deck. I wasn't looking for anything huge, just a small extension to the front deck to make ease of getting furniture in and out a little easier. My daughter was present and she recalls him encouraging me to make it even bigger. When we were outside viewing the existing 8 x 13 foot deck, I explained I only needed to repair the deck and would like maybe 1 or 2 more feet in front of the door for ease of access moving furniture.
I suffer from PTSD, so I was not looking for entertainment space. I had tried once before putting out a small two seat bistro set to try to encourage my self to sit outside in my own yard convincing myself it would be safe and when I couldn't even do that, I gave the bistro set to my sister. While outside he told me he could have it done in one weekend and I didn't need a permit. When he drafted the contract, he made the time period 3 weeks.
Since it was early Nov. and they were already forecasting snow I cautioned him and he told me don't worry, it's gonna melt and his guys work right up to Dec. 17th. I told him I wanted composite decking and had already told Kelly Lake Building Supplies that he would be purchasing the material with the $6000 deposit he requested by e-transfer.
The total cash quote they gave him was for $4,063.91. He called me and told me the railings were in stock and that he had ordered everything except the 18 foot pieces which would take longer to get in. Everything else would have been available within 3 days. This was on Nov.9th.
On Nov.14th, he called and texted me during one of my PTSD meetings and I have to excuse myself to answer him. He texted me a photo of the Trex sample that he said he had already ordered and implied he'd found similar product that was cheaper. Without having time to think about it or ask questions about it like warranty which I would have had with Trex, I just told him go ahead. That afternoon just before 3pm his guys showed up with a bunch of materials including railing, and put in two posts designed for a floating deck.
They came back the next day and completed the frame and attached it to my cold room which I was very clear they could NOT do. I even had him sign an amendendment with clear photos provided by building sevices the difference between the two. I even spoke to his alleged (and I use that term because his has never shown me any certificates he claims he has.) and told him directly to detach it. He said he would, but he didn't and I have the city's building inspection report proving they attached after being told verbally and in writing not to do it.
On the inspection report are items that no Red Seal carpenter worth his salt would have done, support beams cut in half and supported by cut pieces of 2 x 4s. After him signing an agreement that they would not attach the deck, his guys were very swift in installing the deck planks, railings (not the the one that he told me were available and in stock) and stairs that also are short the number of stringers required for a 4 foot span and in fact are one stringer short for a 3 foot span. Also when I told him 24" stairs need handrails he was confused. "handrails?" The inspector noted 7 things he could see from the portions we were able to dig out of the snow.
I fired him on Dec. 7th and told him he was only allowed to have contact with me by text or email, so he continued texting me. When I told him I now knew I needed a building permit based on just the one fact "it's my main front entrance" which agaian, a Red Seal should have known. He again said no permit was need because it was under 24 inches then he said 30 inches then he said they were looking up building codes ONLINE.
When I informed him I was applying for the permit which required me to pay $910 extra for the variance to be legal he tried to talk me out of doing that as well. When I told him the variance was going to be denied he asked if it was because it was too close to the road and immediately after I said yes, he said he told me so, which he never did, but later when he told me he was recording our conversations it made sense that he would say that trying to implicate me as being complacent in this illegal undertaking. He also said he thought "I thought 'we' could get away with it" I was in no way one of the we's involved. Then he told me he had an engineer who could overrule the city.
Waited for this miracle worker who could get me out of the jam Dave had put me in. Finally I asked him for the name of the engineer. Then I phoned the name he gave me and they never heard of him or his company. The engineer also stated that had Dave come to him "he" would have told him GET A PERMIT FIRST not after.
Now I'm out $14,360 for the deck including a second job a gave him before I knew just how big a liar he is and he started asking for cash and being the nice guy he is drove me to the bank. Two weeks after I contracted him and only had a frame he asked for the balance of the second job which he still hasn't provided and in conversation said now I have to re-write this quote. He was paid IN FULL for two jobs in exactly two weeks. One full week before the completion date.
He then called me on Nov. 30 asking me if I loved my beautiful new deck. Shocked I said to him it's not even finished, there's no skirting which we agrred on and again was paid for in full. So in addition to the $910 fee I had to pay an additional $172.50 to get an amended variance to get back 2 of the original 4 feet of deck I had that was grandfathered in when they changed the bylaws.
Feel free to drop by 424 Laforest Ave. Sudbury, behind the church on Notre Dame to see how beautiful but illegal it is before we have to tear it down.
