Urgent Complaint: Severe Misconduct (Sexual Harassment & Discrimination) at Eat Tokyo Holborn

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full
AI Highlights
  • - Public humiliation by head chef Lin for a dietary request.
  • - Sexual harassment and sexist remarks by Lin and staff toward me and waitresses.
Original review updated Feb 23, 2025

I am extremely angry today after experiencing rude and unacceptable treatment at Eat Tokyo Holborn, where I was subjected to sexual harassment, public humiliation, and intrusive moral policing from the staff, including head chef Lin.

1 Public Humiliation

While ordering, I told a waitress I didnt want salad dressing. Lin, unprompted, asked why.

When I said I couldnt eat it, he mocked, You are so weird.

- Mocking a customers dietary restriction is disrespectful, unnecessary, and unprofessional.

- A chef has no right to question or judge a customers food choices.

- Ridiculing a simple request creates an unwelcoming dining environment.

2 Sexual Harassment and Inappropriate Remarks

I asked a waitress for wasabi. Lin said, Our beautiful waitresses are very busy, you shouldnt ask them. If you want wasabi, you should ask me. A male sushi counter staff added, If you want a boyfriend, you can also ask him.

-They turned a simple request into a sexualized conversation, making me extremely uncomfortable.

This was invasive, degrading, and unacceptable.

-Lin criticized me for asking a waitress for wasabi, implying I was wrong, when in fact, it is standard to request items from waitstaff, not sushi chefs.

-Referring to beautiful waitresses objectified female staff, reinforcing workplace sexism.

-Their comments assumed my gender and sexual orientation, which was intrusive, offensive, and inappropriate.

-I wasnt talking with them, yet they imposed themselves into my dining experience with inappropriate remarks.

This exchange left me feeling extremely uncomfortable, disrespected, and degraded.

3 Sexist and Patronizing Moral Policing

Two customers joked about academic stress. Though across a walkway and uninvolved, Lin and two male sushi staff loudly lectured them, saying, Come on, young and beautiful ladies, is it really that bad? You shouldnt dwell on it.

Life moves on.

-This was not a passing commentstaff continued lecturing them loudly for an extended time, making it impossible to ignore.

-They forcefully inserted themselves into a private conversation.

-Their condescending tone dismissed and invalidated the customers feelings.

-Calling them beautiful ladies added an unnecessary and patronizing gendered element.

The head chef leading this behavior reflects a workplace culture that enables such misconduct. This is completely unacceptable, especially from a senior staff member.

User's recommendation: **DO NOT go to Eat Tokyo Holborn.** I experienced blatant sexual harassment, public humiliation, and condescending moral policing from the staff, including the head chef, Lin. 1 Sexual harassment: I turned to ask a waitress for wasabi, and Lin unsolicitedly engaged me, saying: “What do you want? You can ask me for anything.” When I replied, he added: “If you want wasabi, you can ask me directly. Our beautiful waitresses are very busy.” Another male staff then joked about being my boyfriend, and Lin boasted about having many girlfriends. Completely inappropriate, unprofessional, and degrading. 2 Public humiliation: While ordering, I told a waitress I didn't want salad dressing. Lin, who wasn’t part of the conversation, butted in and asked why. When I said I couldn’t eat it, he mocked me, saying: “You are so weird.” A chef ridiculing a customer’s dietary request? Completely unacceptable. 3 Patronizing and sexist moral policing: A group of female customers casually joked about academic stress at another table. Lin loudly interrupted their private conversation, saying: “Come on, young and beautiful ladies, what’s so bad that you can’t just move on? Life goes on, and you really shouldn’t think like that.” Other staff echoed him, lecturing the customers for an extended time. It was intrusive, condescending, and completely unprofessional. If even the head chef behaves this way, what does that say about their work culture? Avoid this place at all costs.

lol, you were not sexually harassed! He simply was letting you know you could ask him for items you need, instead of the servers.

So no, there was no sexual harassment at all. As far as the rest of his comments, sounds like he is just an outgoing person who likes to make cheerful comments.

Maybe that is not your cup of tea and it would not be mine as I am a pretty reserved person in public, but I wouldn't overthink it. I would have eaten my food and just interacted with my dining companions.

Reevaluate staff in Eat Tokyo covent garden

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full
AI Highlights
  • - Poor service with unprofessional staff.
  • - Food fell on the floor and no prompt compensation.
  • - Miso soup wasn't served and replacements were mishandled.

This branch of Eat Tokyo in Covent Garden is very disappointing. Went there last night and service was terrible.

While our food were getting served, they dropped a part of food fell on the floor. And they put no effort to compensate us until we had to ask for it. Other than that, we also had to ask for the miso soup because they didn't serve it even after all the other food were served(other branches normally serve the soup first). Terrible service where we had to constantly ask for what we paid for.

They did not clarify how they gonna compensate for the food until serving bento box on our table.

After the replacement food, it only stayed on table for few minutes before manager(assuming because his outfit was different. He wore a black suit) himself came to take back the food saying it don't belong to us. We tried explaining it but he was already taking it out in our table and then came back few minutes later bringing back same food saying it's a mistake without saying sorry to us. Like it is absolutely unprofessional and it was ruining the mood.

It feels like they all don't talk to each other and no teamwork or communication whatsoever. The manager was making the scene and the other customers started staring at us. It was very uncomfortable for us. It just ruined our appetite and most of us didn't even finish our food.

So we asked to take the service charges off but they ask for the reason which we give it.

And then the manager come and ask the reason again, so we had to repeat the same reason again ,after explaining to the manager we thought everything was fine since he left but no, another staff member asked us again and the manager joined this staff to interrogate us like what's this??? Putting pressure on us in the group? Do they not talk to each other and have no teamwork? Their attitude towards the customers are very unprofessional and rude.

These staff should be reevaluated and embarrassing to proudly put their self as an employee of the month when basic handling of situations like this cant even be fixed professionally. Asking for the reason not once not twice but 3 times which we gave already and repeating it. I thought service charges are optional. Not to mention the staff was so aggressive in asking for reason too and his last sentence was "it's only £6 anyway".

Like WOW, their attitude and service are very outstanding. Also, we ordered bottled water instead of tap water, so £6 isn't a problem for us either. Yeah I don't care if "it's only £6 anyway" because the service here don't worth a cent.

- attitude from the staff

- manager joining in with the aggressive staff

You think re-serving the food that fell down make up your service? No.

1st we had to ask for it.

2nd: it is what we paid for.

You dropped the food which we paid for.

3rd: we didn't even finish your food.

Service: 0/5

Food: 2/5 (taste mediocre(we didn't finish it), not sure if it's because of chefs or waiters outstanding service)

We been to other eat tokyo often, and they have been professional and food are nice.

But this branch have no teamwork and very unprofessional. Terrible experience.

Preferred solution: Reevaluate all the staff members
