Kind, caring gesture
- - Emergency visit; upfront payment required.
- - Bitty euthanized; the clinic sent paw prints and a heartfelt card, and the doctor was compassionate.
On Wednesday, August 23rd, 2023 I had to take my bitty due to a sudden onset of a medical emergency. As soon as I placed my cat in the techs arms I couldn't even get turned around towards my daughter who was sitting in a chair behind me and the receptionist started tapping on the counter with her hand saying something to me to get my attention.
At first I didn't even realize she was speaking to me. When I did and I turned around she informed me that I would need to "pay up front for this appointment" I guess because it was an emergency situation towards the end of the day and didn't have an appointment. Who knows, as I said though this was a sudden emergency. I do not have a current balance and never have for that matter.
I have always paid my bill in full anytime I've ever went there. As a matter of fact exactly 2 weeks prior I had taken bitty there for the first time and walked out the door with an almost $300.00 bill paid in full! So needless to say on top of being upset because my cat was not doing good and we had no idea exactly what was happening or why? I may have said a few choice words on my way out to grab my bag from my truck to pay this lady.
Which I don't regret by the way. I understand they are running a business and obviously expect payment for any and all services rendered. Come on though, you see someone who is obviously shook up and hurriedly pass their cat off to a waiting tech in the lobby and the only thing you ate concerned about it is collecting th "upfront" fee. I do not care about the cost when it comes to my cats, they are as much a part of my family as anyone is to me.
I ended up having to make the hardest decision of my life and putting him down. Very unexpected, up to this point he was as healthy as could be. I was so upset I had to wait in my truck while my daughter stayed with him until he was gone.
I told my daughter to let them know I would be in the next day for his body. I must say they did a great job with him and had him in a nice little cat bag with his blanket around it inside a box.
But what really did it for me was when I got home from work today and had a card in the mail from them. It was a beautiful card but what was inside was one of the kindest, most heartfelt things anyone could have done for me in this very difficult time. They took Bitty's paw prints and sent them to me.
That meant more to me than the anger I felt towards the lady working the counter the day I took him out there. Very compassionate and thoughtful doctor and in my world that goes a long ways.
We had a 10:30 appointment and the girl came out to see what the appointment was for. We told her a list of things our dog needed and she said they would be right out to get the dog.
- - Gave Lyme shot we didnt want.
- - Heartworm medicine not given.
- - Billing was messed up and redone.
- - Unhappy with visit; unfriendly.
They brought our dog back out to the car at 11 am. They gave our dog the lime disease shot that we didnt want done and they didnt bring out the heart worm medicine we ordered.
We waited another half hour and then she came out with the medication but they screwed up the bill and had to do it over. The girl said she would have someone come out to talk to us about the bill but after waiting another 15 minutes we left. Total time sitting in the parking lot was 1 hour and forty five minutes.
They dont seem very organized and are not customer friendly Im glad my dog didnt have to sit in the car on a 80 degree day. Not happy about the visit at all

Eastview Veterinary Clinic is awesome.
- - 15+ years as a client; staff know our pets by name.
- - Friendly, caring staff provide care.
- - Dr. Tanya Jackson is our longtime vet; she repaired our dog's ACL and saved a cat.
We have been customers at Eastview Veterinary Clinic for over 15 years. Every time we arrive, the staff knows who our pets are by name.
The staff is friendly and shows how much they care about our pets by the thorough and caring treatment we consistently receive. Dr. Tanya Jackson has been our personal private veterinarian at Eastview for all these years and she is the best!!! She has performed orthopedic procedures on one of our dogs for an ACL tear- he has never limped since.
She has also saved one of our cats who was hit by a car. Can't say enough good things about this place!!
Could have killed my dog!
- - Allergy shot given without chart review, causing a severe reaction.
- - Do not take your pet to Eastview Veterinary, especially Dr. Tanya Jackson.
In December 2010 my dog went in for her usual shots update. She is a 3 year old Jug and has been a patient at Eastview Veterinary, Penn Yan, New York since she was a puppy.
So,the vet knew that she needed allergy shots with her shots update EVERY TIME. She had a reaction in their practice before and it was supposed to be noted in her chart. WELL, DR. JACKSON DID NOT LOOK THROUGH THE CHART!!!!!
My husband came home and I asked about the allergy shot. He didn't know. Well, soon after my dog started shaking all over and got huge bumps all over her body to the point where her eyes were closing up. My husband went back to the vet and she apologized and gave her the allergy shot.
Came back home and in an hour she was not getting any better! Went back to the vet and she said that THIS COULD BE FATAL...SHE ADMITTED!!!!! This time they kept my animal and after 3 hours in the afternoon of a Saturday we went to pick her up. I was and am so pissed!
I stopped payment on $100 check. We let them know how we felt. So, now in March 2011 we have a new Pug from rescue and we called at 8pm for service and help. We were told that we could be seen that night, but not after as we were not going to be given future service due to "trust" issues!
So here we are at 9pm with a dog that is coughing with a history of heartworm and we frantically called another vet for help. She was wonderful and we are calling this morning. HOWEVER, I CALLED THE OFFICE MANAGER THIS MORNING AND WE WERE TOLD A LETTER WAS SENT OUT! Hello?
I received no letter! DO NOT EVER TAKE YOUR PET TO THIS PLACE...ANOTHER DOCTOR THERE NEARLY PUT MY MOTHER'S DOG DOWN, WHO SHE TOOK TO CORNELL UNIVERSITY AND IS STILL LIVING AFTER 6 YEARS!
ESPECIALLY DO NOT SEE DR. TANYA JACKSON AS SHE WILL BE NEGLIGENT IN LOOKING IN THE CHART TO BE SURE YOUR ANIMAL WILL GET PROPER CARE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Ok, so, wow. Have you ever heard of an accident?
I have been a client at Eastview for well over 14 years, have a current pet population of 7 dogs, 4 cats, and 2 guinea pigs. Tanya Jackson is the only vet I will see unless it's a dire emergency. I have had complicated health issues with my rescues and her diagnoses are always spot on, as is the time and attention my animals receive from her. So, seriously, it sounds like it was an ACCIDENT!
Your dog survived.
