My wife and I booked a threes night stay tab this Inn, having stayed there many years prior. I am sixty-two years of age on a fixed income, and we had not been away for over seven years. We booked through Booking.com and searched for friendly pet accommodations. Booking Eastern Slope Inn, we arrived on Thursday late afternoon for a three night stay. Our first encounter was a male desk attendant with no personality or customer consideration. We provided our documents and the fun ride began. First, we were asked if the $150.00 charge was being placed on our credit card. I told him the entire stay was paid in advance, reflected on our documents. We were told that there was an additional charge of $150.00 dollars for our two dogs mini dachshunds, not told us on the documentation. Then we are asked for documentation of proper vacations for two dogs, something never brought to our attention at booking our documented anywhere. When this brought to the attendant's attention, his response was" what do you want to do" with no understanding other than" You should have not booked through Booking.com and called us instead". With no resolve, we were forced to call our veterinarian and the documentation emailed over. Then we are provided keys to our room which is one mile away from the main facility providing all the amenities we expected and paid for. Although the booking did reflect a different building, we were never told Ron expected what we received and experienced. Management explained that guest with pets are housed at the off-site location. When I asked why I had already noticed several dogs at the main building, we were told that due to guest health concerns, pets are housed at the alternate location but service dogs are allowed. My wife and I could have argued that our dogs were service oriented but choose not to lie and did could not understand the *** coming from management regarding dogs and allergies. Apparently large hairy service dogs do not affect guest health condition, just another line off *** and lies.
Driving to the off site location, my wife and I were flabbergasted at what we first experienced. This site can be best described and compared to a cheap highway motel that charges by the hour. The property was nothing compared to the main building, a fact never explained in the advertising, and nothing compared to the main facility. The grass was ankle high and the driveway and parking area needing paving and repair. The outdoor pool, not heated and apparently dating back to when this property was built also had a community gas grill chained to the pool fence. A dirty grill along with scooping hills, tall grass, and dirty or rusted lawn furniture was a far cry from guest we're receiving at the main building, once again something never explained prior to booking. The room was very small and a bathroom door that struck the bathroom sink every time you opened the door.
Although they provide you with an ice bucket, the reality unlike the main building is that you have to leave your room, walk across the open parking lot to the building's end at the front street entrance. There you find that management apparently used a room and cut *** in the facing outer wall where an ice machine facing forward inside the room was placed in the hole You have to open a door and put the bucket in to get ice, real sanitary like the flirty outside grill used by everyone.
We spent the night and left the next day for site seeing, arriving after six that night. Another experience, we learned that housekeeping had not turned down our room or provided clean towels. When we questioned the front desk, my wife and I were told that turn down housekeeping services are not provided at the off site location, but fresh towels are provided if we choose to drive to the main building and pick them up.
Conclusion: This company Eastern Inn Slope should be called Eastern SLOP Inn. My wife and I were treated very poorly, charged nearly $300.00 a night for a room off site that compares to a cheap highway motel. No turn down services or clean towels provided unless you drive and get them yourself, but the audacity to leave an envelope in our room that provides a gratuity for housekeeping that never came. They advertise an off site location, but never tell you that location is nothing to the main building and does not provide the basics you expect when paying $300.00 a night. Not unpaved driveways, un cut lawn, old non-heated pools, no room service, no fresh towels, and an ice machine you have to access by walking through the driveway to *** in the wall. Additionally, dog lovers beware because they may advertise per friendly, that's just another lie. You're overcharged more than others are paying, wished off to a cheap accommodation, have no access to the amenities others are receiving from the main building, and no one gives a damn or cares how you feel. This was our first vacation in over seven years and Eastern Inn Slope Inn took advantage of us, charged us more for the same dogs allowed in the main building, and charged us additionally to what was already paid and required, additional documentation for our pest, and facts that were never advertised when booking. If this company suggests not utilizing Booking.com, THEY should address their business practices and not have the customer pay for it. Importantly, my wife and I did check several other locations in North Conway that did not practice what Eastern Inn Slope did to my wife and I. Pets and owners are not subjected to additional charges or shoved off to cheaper arrangements but charged full rates and provide nothing that customers at the main building are receiving. We were ripped off and this was wrong. Eastern Slope (SLOP) Inn, remember you have much better choices than this place, you deserve not to get ripped off.
