Upset Patient

  • - Appointments for me and my son were scheduled.
  • - We drove 50 minutes each way and took time off.
  • - We were told rescheduling due to one hygienist.

I am extremely disappointed with the way our appointments were handled today 2/10/2026.

My son and I had 6-month cleaning appointments scheduled months in advance. We drove 50 minutes each way, I left work early, and I pulled my son out of school to be there.

After completing X-rays and waiting, we were called to the desk and told our cleanings had to be rescheduled because there was only one hygienist.

This should have been communicated before we arrived not after we had already taken time off work and school and driven nearly two hours round trip.

Now we are being asked to reschedule, miss more work and school, and were even told we will likely face long wait times again due to the same staffing issue. Being short-staffed is not the patients responsibility. Proper scheduling and staffing is the offices responsibility.

Hearing that you are down to one hygienist again suggests this is an ongoing problem.

That raises serious concerns about reliability and the level of care patients can expect.

This situation shows a clear lack of respect for patients time and commitments. It is unacceptable and needs to be addressed.

If you review the google comments this seems to be an on going problem with Eastern Dental!!!

Billing Dispute

AI Highlights
  • - Cannot reach billing; voicemail after long waits.
  • - Balance over $200 with no reason, November cleaning paid.
  • - No return; check-in requires full payment.

What customer service? There is none. The customer service is non-existent.

Original review Dec 26, 2025
I have been trying for 3 weeks now to get someone on the phone to no avail. I keep getting text messages that I have a balance due of over $200, but I have no idea what it is for.

I am in the Morris Plains office 4 times a year for cleanings. Two are processed through insurance; the other two I pay out of pocket. I was just there mid-November for an out-of-pocket cleaning, which I paid. Why are you telling me now that there is a balance due?

I would appreciate the courtesy of a reply. You cannot get through to anyone in the billing department. After 20 minutes, you are dumped into a voicemail. I will not be paying the balance due.

I do not owe you a penny. When you arrive at the office, you check in, then they call you to pay in full for any work, then they see you. Could this balance due have been processed on my account by accident? All I had was a cleaning.

What could I possibly have a balance due of over $200 for, and this is the first time I am hearing about it? I have been a patient for over 10 years, and my November cleaning was the last appointment. I will never be back.

Ever since Marlena left, that office has gone downhill. It's just horrible.
Cons:
  • Office is a disaster and their customer service sucks

Preferred solution: The courtesy of a reply and to refund my account for an amount I clearly do not owe.

User's recommendation: Run fa away.

Canceled appointment

AI Highlights
  • - Cleaning was scheduled and confirmed.
  • - Arrived, waited 10 minutes, told to reschedule for Feb; no contact about staff unavailability was unprofessional.

Teeth cleaning was scheduled three months ago, and confirmed by text two weeks AND a few days before the appt.

Went to the office, saw the dentist, waited 10 more minutes and then was told they had to resched. Earliest appt.

available - Feb.

Not contacting when they did not have available staff is unprofessional. It is also unacceptable to wait 3 more months for a cleaning.

Pros:
  • Pro - very close to my home
Cons:
  • Staffing appears to be an issue
  • Will not schedule teeth cleanings ever 6 months

Preferred solution: Reliable staffing for teeth cleanings

Denial of medically necessary oral surgeon referral

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full
AI Highlights
  • - Requests a medically necessary oral surgeon referral; Vineland office won’t send or fax it.
  • - Treatment was delayed for a severe abscess and infection.
Updated by user Jul 03, 2025

This is an urgent matter that has to do with a serious infection in a tooth that has led to swelling and possibly going into the jawbone. I went to get urgent treatment at Eastern dental.

In the past I have always used the Laurel springs Eastern dental, but this time I was closer to the Vineland office. I never once had any problems in the Laurel springs location. Out of the at least 15 times, I visited there for various different procedures in the last 20 years. I have repeatedly called the corporate number.

Desperately asking them to help resolve this by letting the office manager know she has to release my doctor ordered referral. It's medically necessary that I go to an oral surgeon as soon as possible! Because of her actions I am now delayed treatment and at risk of the infection and problem getting worse. The situation has become so bad that I might be forced to look for a medical malpractice lawyer because I am positive it's against the law for her to refuse to at least give me the script by mail or facts of the doctor ordered referral.

She has called me great distress. In addition, I have found out online through reviews, that she has done this to multiple patients!! She is using her position and authority as office manager as a way to abuse it by even calling the police when it's not warranted. I was told by a Vineland New Jersey police officer that she has called them multiple times recently (in the past few years) This is an abuse of police resources.

It's abuse of patience by causing them emotional distress when they see police arriving because of them.

I did not threaten her, nor did I touch her. There was no reason for what she did!

I am writing to formally once again request my medically necessary oral surgeon referral. The office manager at the Eastern Dental, Vineland location is refusing to either send it or fax it to me.

Because of this, I am delayed in receiving the treatment for a severe abscess and infection that I have. My office visit as well as x-rays were fully covered by my insurance, and I am lawfully entitled to any records or referrals that were ordered by the doctor. The office manager at the Vineland Eastern Dental location has refused to give me her full name. She only goes by 'Stephanie' at this time.

I have even had my mom call in a desperate attempt to please get me this vital oral surgeon script. This is completely wrong and cruel of the office manager to do.

The day I was there, she saw that my face was even swollen on the right side because of the abscess and infection. Please get back to me on where and when I will get my medically necessary doctor-referred referral script: it can be mailed to my address Aileen Fazzolari

So here’s the thing. For some reason you want that piece of paper in your hand.

That’s not how things work. You find an oral surgeon and Eastern Dental sets up the access to your records and handles the referral with your insurance company. That takes about two business days.

As far as an active infection, the dentist at ED should be prescribing antibiotics for 1-2 weeks until the oral surgeon appointment. If you haven’t chosen an oral surgeon and let ED know how/where to proceed, that falls on you.

Unprofessional

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full
AI Highlights
  • - Child's appointment and my appointment were canceled due to no hygienist.
  • - The supervisor was rude; hung up and refused to share corporate number.

I am writing this review to shed light on how RUDE and UNPROFESSIONAL Shirleena the office supervisor is at Eastern Dental in Northfield, NJ. This incident occurred on April 5, 2022 at approximately 1:55 p.m.

I received a call from Theresa wanting to know if I was able to come in a little early for my appointment the following evening. I was asked to give a call either way to confirm my appointment. I called and was then told that my childs appointment was canceled due to a hygienist not being available the next day at that time. Then, I asked if my childs appointment could be changed and be put on the same day as my appointment, which was in two weeks.

I was then told that my appointment would be canceled too due to no hygienist being available on the day of my appointment. I proceeded to ask to speak to a supervisor because I wanted to know why I was not aware of either cancellation. The supervisor got on the phone and never addressed herself as one. I had to ask.

I explained to her the situation and she proceeded to tell me that she did not know what I wanted her to do because they hired the hygienist strictly for a 8 a.m.-4 p.m. schedule and she was promised the day off on the day I had my appointment when she was hired. Just to reiterate and I quote, What do you want me to do? None of that had anything to do with what I was asking her.

I simply wanted to know why I was not informed of the cancellations. Once I asked her again, the supervisor proceeded to over talk me, and she neglected to answer my question. Her tone was very RUDE and UNPROFESSIONAL. When I requested her manager, she told me that her manager was Corporate.

Consequently, I asked her for the number to corporate so that I could inform them of how rude and unprofessional she was. She proceeded to tell me that I was rude and if I wanted the number to Google it and hung up on me.

I called back and she answered the phone once again. I asked her if she was indeed the person I just spoke with and she confirmed that. I wanted her name because I was not sure if I heard it correctly when I asked her what it was initially.

She responded, I gave you my name once and I am not going to give it to you again. I was hung up on again by her for the second time.

I called back a third time and Shirleena hung up the phone on me once again. Needless to say, I will not EVER go to this dentist office again. I have been going to this dentist for around 20 years and have always been treated with respect.

Shirleena is the epitome of what horrible customer service/patient care is!!!!

She does not indeed uphold the vision or mission of this company. If Eastern dental employs people like her, I can foresee them losing many patients very soon.

Cons:
  • Horrible service

Preferred solution: Apology
