Problems during fast track

AI Highlights
  • Fast-track security caused chaos and long queues.
  • The watch disappeared during screening.
  • Carer separated from disabled traveler.

My husband has Parkinson's disease. He has assisted travel to make life a little easier for him and for me as his carer.

We approached the fast track lane on the 17/08/2025 yesterday afternoon at approximately 14:30, to be met by utter mayhem. There were people everywhere and queues, and even a couple of very young and fit young ladies. I put our belongings on the conveyor belt, with my husband remembering his watch at the last minute, so it was loose in the tray with our bags. I was told to queue with the rest of the people, leaving my husband to go through on his own.

Our bags were going through. They searched my husband and wiped his mobility scooter. I understand it's a security check. Then they called the fit young ladies through, so I joined them.

By the time I got to my trays, my husband's watch was gone. Is this the policy you have on the disabled security of splitting disabled people from their carers and allowing very fit young people to also go through? There were pushchairs and groups of people. It was an absolutely awful experience for disabled people.

We are British and live in Spain. They have a separate disabled security gate away from the crowds, and it's always a good experience. My husband does not get frisked; they just wave the drug wipe quickly over him.

Part of Parkinson's is anxiety, and yesterday's experience certainly caused that. I did try to speak to the staff about my husband's watch there, but they would not make eye contact with me.

Unacepatable help at boarding gate

AI Highlights
  • We were charged 60 pounds to put a 10kg bag in the hold.
  • The bag was moved under the wheelchair to my husband, making boarding stressful.

My husband and I flew from East Midlands to Malaga on Wednesday, 4th June. We arrived early as I have disability help because I am 76 years old.

FPQRSV. We arrived at the boarding gate to be told we hadn't booked a 10kg bag with priority; our mistake. The airport lady said we would have to pay 60 pounds to put our bag in the hold. The assistant pushed me to another desk as I was in a wheelchair.

The lady took our case from under the wheelchair and put a tag on it; my husband was paying. As I was facing the other way, I did not see her put the case back under the wheelchair. My husband went to join the queue when I was taken to board. The assistant took the 10kg case to my husband; I could not manage it.

He boarded the flight, and the air hostess stopped him and said, 'You cannot bring that case on board.' He replied, 'Shall I take it back to the desk?' to be told, 'No, if you get off, you can't get on again.' She argued with him and was very rude. We paid 60 pounds; surely the lady should have taken our case upon payment. She put it under the chair. It was very stressful for both of us.

1st complaint ever to Ryan Air. We fly all the time.

6 more flights booked in August. 60 pounds is a lot out of pension, then incorrect procedure caused a problem.

Loss:
$60
Pros:
  • Small airport good service

Preferred solution: Price reduction

If you consider arguing as rude, the your husband was rude as well. She was not rude.

She was just explaining the rules and you are NOT entitled to a price reduction. If you cannot afford their price, leave the bag at the airport.

So what happened? Did she allow the case on?

Reporting a member of staff for drug abuse

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full
AI Highlights
  • East Midlands Airport staff Angela/Ang Brown allegedly uses amphetamine; partner Kenneth Charles of Chaddesden Derby linked to illegal drugs.

Hi,

To whom it may concern,

I would like to report a member of staff working at East Midlands Airport (Castle Donnington) in Leicestershire. The staff member in question is Angela/Ang Brown. Her maiden name through marriage might have been (Dean). I believe she has been working in security at the Castle Donnington Airport for around 24 years now. Namely, the illegal drug that she has been taking for many years is amphetamine. I know she regularly takes this drug with her partner, who is known as Kenneth Charles of Chaddesden Derby. He is known for illegal drugs, stolen property, and counterfeit goods.

I really do hope this information is of interest to you, as I will be reporting this information in any way I can to the highest position of staff, as this is a very concerning matter!

Kind regards,

Stephen Walters

Preferred solution: Her sacked from her work position

Misuse of my vehicle whilst parked in the Meet&Greet car park at East Midlands Airport

AI Highlights
  • Left at Meet&Greet for eight days; reg LT20HYU.
  • Fuel halved; mileage rose 178 miles.
  • Complaint filed; Case ID 00513941; no follow-up; £132.
Updated by user Oct 08, 2024

I will try to forward the most recent communications between East Midlands airport customer services and myself. Effectively they are calling me out as a liar by stating that the vehicle key is kept in a secure area.

Original review Sep 23, 2024
On 08/09/24, my Toyota CH-R Hybrid 2.0 Reg No LT20HYU was left at the Meet&Greet car park for eight days and just a few days prior to travelling I put £40.00 of petrol in the tank. The airport is just 27 miles from our home in East Bridgford, Nottingham and hence on arrival there was almost a full tank of petrol.

At the time of parking the vehicle, at my wifes insistence, I recorded the mileage on a piece of paper as 31,439 and left it in the centre console.
When we returned to the vehicle in the early afternoon of 16/09/24, the first thing I noticed was that almost half the fuel had disappeared followed by the fact that the mileage was now reading 31,617, a discrepancy of 178 miles. Asking the wife to wait in the vehicle, I went back to the Meet&Greet reception and requested to speak with the Manager. After explaining that my vehicle had evidently been misused whilst we were away, he tried to fob me off that as there are so many cameras around that it would be impossible for that to have happened, whereupon I replied that surely it is impossible to drive 178 miles just from repositioning the vehicle within the car park. His response was to go onto the East Midlands airport website and make a written complaint.
I did that by email that very afternoon and received an acknowledgment from the airport, which was given Case ID 00513941.

This was from a No Reply address and needless to say nothing further has been heard from them. I should be grateful therefore if you would investigate this situation, as it is not acceptable that you pay some £132.00 to ostensibly leave your vehicle safe for eight days only to find that it has been misused.

User's recommendation: Ensure you make a note of the recorded mileage of your vehicle and preferably take a photo of the mileage and fuel level before leaving the vehicle and handing over the keys to people you don’t even know let alone trust. Better still, use car parks whereby you can keep the vehicle keys in your possession no matter how inconvenient that may be.

Comments on cleanliness

AI Highlights
  • Arrivals area dirty and dishevelled with litter outside and unclean windows.
  • Baggage-claim toilets were filthy with stained bowls.

Arriving on a Jet2 flight from Malaga on Saturday 11 November, I could not believe how dirty and dishevelled the arrivals area looked. Outside there was litter strewn everywhere, the windows looked like they had never been cleaned, and the whole place looked dismal and unkempt.

The ladies toilets in the baggage claim area were disgusting.

The floors and walls were filthy, the toilet bowls covered in stains and the tiling area behind the sinks was an absolute disgrace.

If my memory serves me well, I'm sure the toilets were refurbished only a few years ago. Obviously someone isn't doing their job in keeping these clean.

I appreciate there is a lot of footfall at the airport as in every other airport, but what must a newly arrived tourist think when they look around and view such a filthy site.

Your comments would be appreciated please
