Buyers beware of the Dominator Basketball hoop - Design Flaw

Buyers beware of the Dominator Basketball hoop and its design flaws. I purchased the 72” Dominator basketball hoop 2 months ago and the internal piece that lowers and raises the system has already broke!

Since all of the parts are internal, it is impossible to diagnose or fix the problem. So now I am stuck with a hoop that is stuck at 9 feet high because it won’t adjust anymore. This is obviously a design flaw. The challenge is when the internal parts break there is NO solution to fix it or even diagnose it.

In my opinion, this design is unproven and is too new and unique. The product looks cool online, but once I felt the light weight parts I started to have some doubts. I wasn’t aware at the time of purchase the backboard was not regulation thickness with 3/8” thick. The rim on this system is also very CHEAP for the money I paid.

My neighbor has a competitor hoop, and owns a construction company. He said the telescoping pole is a weakness vs. the solid steel pole, and aluminum is not as good as steel. Cars and skyscrapers are made out of steel for a reason.

It’s strong, and reliable.

The Dominator has some serious flaws with the crank on it, I took a video of it to show what happens. Basically, if you don't set it just right, it comes spinning backwards pretty crazy, could hurt a small child or someone cranking it who wasn't paying much attention.

This isn't an issue on any other type of in-ground goal that I've ever seen before.

MegaSlam, Goalrilla, Goalsetter, ProDunk and the rest all have manual cranks that stay once you remove your hand from them.

This is Brandon from Dominator Hoop.

This comment appears to be from a competitor as this particular complaint was never submitted to us for warranty or repair.

In fact, with the new telescoping version, we have not received one warranty/repair submission for an internal adjustment problem (which is accessible and easily detected if needed). Our engineers and support staff have always and will continue to take 1st class care of our customers.

We have been manufacturing residential basketball standards for over 13 years.

The anodized aluminum and telescoping adjustment have put the Dominator in a league of its own. Please call us at 877-959-**** or check us out at www.dominatorhoop.com or talk to any of several hundred customers that own a Dominator.

Wow....I'm sorry that you're dealing with this. I recently purchased a Mega Slam 660 system and it's incredible.

Very strong and sturdy....can take dunk after dunk from anyone.

Has the regulation 1/2" tempered glass, etc. Check them out at www.megaslamhoops.com Also, the 660 was just $1499...MUCH lower than the 60" Dominator.

Be careful with Mega Slam. I purchased one of their goals and it was damaged when it arrived.

Unfortunately, I didn't know that it was damaged until a few days later (the weekend) when I went to assemble the goal. I called Mega Slam and they said that there was nothing that they would do since I signed for the delivery as in tact.

This is a bunch of B.S. Unfortunately, I didn't do my research prior to purchasing because I should of known since they don't have a long history online.

Save your money and purchase a product from a company that is established in the U.S.

Basketball Junkie, no one at Mega Slam has ever treated any of our customers with what you have described. This is a false complaint.

"IF" something like this happened in real life we would have instructed you to send us an email describing what you found during assembly, and to email some photos. Once received, we would have sent out replacement parts the following business day and filed a claim with the carrier. Very simple resolution. We ship out everything in brand new condition, and occasionally the carrier will cause damage.

When this happens we are very easy to deal with as we are here 7 days a week by phone and email.

Well, it's now been a year since my Mega Slam was installed and it's still perfect. The rust/weather protection is top notch. I could not be happier with it....looks like it came out of the box.
