Domestications inconsistant quality

Five years ago, I orderded sofabed sheets from Domestications. They were fine, but get constant use so I went back to the website to see if they are still available to get another set. Lucky me (so i thought)...they were closing out at a very low price just the size and color I needed. Well, the product they shipped bore no relation what so ever to what I had ordered from them before. No way were these 200 thread count sheets....you could literally see right through them and were as scratchy as all get out. And of course, they don't include their exhorbinant S&P charges if you want to return...and it costs a lot to ship the garbage back to them too. No matter...even though I will only net $4.00 after expenses, I sent the order back. No mas...

I suppose everyone has figured out that Domestications went out of business. This company was under the Hanover Direct umbrella, along with The Company Store, Silouettes, Undergear (previously named International Male), and Scandia Downs.

Domestications and Silouettes were abruptly shut down early in 2012. As a former employee of Hanover Direct, this came as no surprise. The quality of Domestications and Silouettes had progressively worsened as most of the product was imported. As a Quality Control Inspector for all of the above brands, I saw the criteria for acceptable product lessen.

Some of the sheets were so thin you could see through them. Most of what I rejected, for being substandard, was released by management to be stocked for sale. We were instructed to not "be so picky" when we inspected product. I was even told by a manager that Domestications was not quality merchandise, but more like "seconds." Domestications was not advertised as "seconds", or of poor quality.

They made the product look superb in the catalog. The Company Store, which is supposedly a quality catalog, used most of the same vendors as Domestications. The only quality I saw was the prices of Company Store items. Thankfully, Hanover Direct chose to close the warehouse facility I worked in.

This resulted in the two remaining catalogs, The Company Store and Undergear being contracted out to a 3rd party logistics company. I would be surprised if either of the two remaining catalogs will stay afloat.

Sooner or later, customers will stop buying poor merchandise.

Thanks for the details...I've noticed similar quality issues with the Co. Store compared th what I bought from them several years ago. Unfortunately, some of this stuff (down throws, sofa bed sheets) just isn't available in brick and mortar stores any more!

DOMESTICATIONS QUALITY IS THE POOREST I HAVE SEEN

I placed an order with Domestications for a sheet set, pillow sham, and several other items. What I received was some of the poorest quality items I have ever seen. The sheet set was a totally wierd color and only 140 thread count, not the 300 they had advertised. The $17.95 pillow sham was so thin and poorly made it was unusable. I did return the order but with shipping costing so much it was a real loss. It took several telephone calls to get a credit to my credit card. This used to be a great company with quality products.
