Engine Rebuild

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full
AI Highlights
  • - Feedback was challenged; reviewer felt blamed.
  • - Poor turnaround and communication, with a $1200 price increase and delays, and work not started.

AVOID. I tried to give him feedback and he argued with me, blamed, avoided his own responsibility in his poor turn around time and communication.

He also increased his price by $1200 from his original estimate and kept delaying the job. Luckily I got out of there before he performed any work on my vehicle.

Haven't heard anything positive in reviews of his shop, which he operates himself. Giving zero stars isn't an option unfortunately.

He took me for a ride a few years ago - he promptly got the engine removed and then a delay came up, then another delay, and yet a few more delays. It was months later that he finished the job.

Thousands of dollars and a lost summer of use of my important truck is what I got for my trouble with Alex Dodson. He later admitted I just needed a new catalytic converter and the engine was all within spec. A reputable mechanic would figure that out at the diagnosis. He was verbally abusive when I called him on his dishonest tactics and missed promises.

Take a look at his lobby and shop and it'll give you a clue as to his lack of organization and skills. Piles of work and engines and parts boxes everywhere.

It's a fire hazard. Stay away, stay away, stay away.

Scam. Dodson Engines (Indiana)

AI Highlights
  • - The reviewer accuses Alex Dodson of lies, delays, and poor service.
  • - Final cost $2200 after a $400 upfront, with no negotiation.

This mechanic is a scam artist. DO NOT TRUST HIM.

He's nothing more than a slick talking salesman. I fell on some bad luck with my vehicle and the whole engine needed to be rebuilt. I searched for a few days trying to find a mechanics shop I could trust, since they are few and far between. This man, Alex Dodson, was so kind at our initial meet up.

He apologized for my misfortune, told me he was going to "take care of it and get me back on my feet" he also said "I understand your concern with shops. There are a lot of people who give the industry a bad name." HA! He is one his self. He was very speedy about getting my car into his shop, told me it would only take 2 weeks tops, and that I could make payments to him after I received the car back working, because he "understood it was a large amount of money all at once".

Well 4 months later, after him telling me the car would be done "next week for sure" every week since the end of those first two weeks, the car is finally finished. But, low and be hold, he tells me "It's $2200 and I can't let the car leave for any less than that." Oh why is that Alex? Because you know you messed up, and lied to me every step of the way, telling me the delay was due to being sent the wrong parts (four times? ), and that you were so sorry for the extreme delay, etc.

WHAT BUISNESS IN THERE RIGHT MIND PROMISES SOMEONE SOMETHING, LIES FOR FOUR MONTHS, AND THINKS THAT THE CUSTOMER SERVICE THEIR CLIENT DESEREVES IS TELLING THEM TO "stop texting me, because your not saying anything, and I need all my money", and also is now unwilling to negotiate on the final price. The problem is that I barely contacted him the ENTIRE TIME he had my vehicle. I didn't want to be a bother on him and was genuinely trying to be patient, because I've worked in customer service my whole life. I understand *** happens, but yes after 4 months of "next week, next week, next week" I made sure I was heard this last week, which I feel is reasonable to understand.

He put BOTH my jobs in jeopardy by lying about the date he'd have my car finished over and over again, put a strain on my relationship because my partner and I are having to share one car to go to our jobs on OPPOSITE SIDES of the city, at the SAME time as each other, every day each 50 hours to work around. I gave him $400 to start. Have $1500 in hand to pick up, which would have only left me owing $700. No problem, I actually was getting that this paycheck on the 18th.

That's not the point. The point is the TERRIBLE CUSTOMER SERVICE and the LYING!! NOT a way to run a business. YOUR business.

With YOUR name on the business's LLC title. Bad form.

I also had the same problems with Alex Dodson.

Guest

Except for the long wait, did he actually do the job? How was your engine/transmission after he had the car?

He did not do the job well. He didn't even put the engine back on the bracket if that tells you anything.

Guest

So far the same old scenario of him not answering phone or returning calls. The waiting game is still good for him.

Guest

He is jacking me around on my car right now but I'm bout to bout to give you any money until it's done he won't return your call act like you don't know what you're talking about when you can't get ahold of him Oh its the holidays it's on holidays you know that's holidays same thing over and over now the holidays I still don't have my car he tries to get extra money out of me I'm going to have his arm broke better still do it myself
