I want to get connected

It appears to me that no matter how far i'd gone, there would be a certain time that i will say 'instead' feeling that regretful pain so it is because i needed to be connected with you, because i love writing and reading novels. the fact about me is -i want a mentor, some guardians- a guardian angel to put me through. i have written some fiction novels and i'm still writing. all the plots and themes used are all about crime fiction, mystery and tragedy because it's what am good at. i have written at about five crime novels but because i set the frame that all the ideas i got and formulated were all constituted and mainly on crime and using that pattern and the idea of white country perspectives and content. Please, just for once make me feel i'm making progress. THANKS

Re-publishing with iUniverse: do not think of it

About 6 months ago, we contacted iUniverse to have a new book published in the US by them in the US and Canada, where they claim to have a large network. ========================= Dear iUniverse, I am from LW Publishing. We talked before via email about iUniverse helping us with printing & distribution in the US. Kindly let me give you more background information. We are about to publish a couple of books on different topics that we believe could work in the US. One of the books I would like to get published shortly is on the Chinese language. It's the result of a year work done by both foreigners and Chinese. Its concept is original and doesn't not exist yet on the market. The format is A5, black and white, normal quality paper, 176 pages. It's price will be USD25. I would like to understand if it'd be possible to have a partnership with iUniverse, on per-book basis, in view of selling our publications in the US and Canada. LW Publishing is a publishing foreign company based in Hong Kong, not in China Mainland. We therefore have International ISBNs. The book in question we would like to have published is the US/Canada is fully finished and ready for print. Would you like to explore this way of working together, Ray? -- Best Regards, Adriano - Editor in Chief @ Lonely Writers Publishing http://www.lwpublishing.com ========================= Some time later, we received a positive reply: ========================= Hi Adriano, > > I am sorry for the late reply. We can do 5.5" x 8.5" format that's the closest we have to the A5 format. However we are a self publishing company and unfortunately we do not have partnerships available at this time. What you can do is choose to publish your book and it would need to go thru production again and we would also assign a different ISBN number since part of the isbn would be the publisher number. We are a print on demand company so you don't need to order a certain number of books and we will make your book available in 2000 online reseller in US and in CA. You will be getting royalties on every book sale. > > Let me know what you think. > Ray Anthony Jover > Publishing Consultant > iUniverse, Inc. > 1663 Liberty Drive > Suite 300 > Bloomington, IN 47403 > 877-820-**** ext. 8104 > ray.anthony.jover@***.com ========================= After a while, we published our new book. We therefore contacted iUniverse again: ========================= Hello Ray, Long time no hear from you. I hope all is fine on iUniverse's side. Times are quite difficult in the publication business these days, even in China. We have finally published "Chinese Without Tears," after a long time working on collecting info, writing, editing, design, etc. It is quite successful here, in China and Hong Kong. We have now a full website dedicated to it: http://www.chinese-without-tears.com/ If you're still interested in working together to promote it in the US, I'd like to send you a copy for your reference. Kindly let me know if I should send one copy over to your US address, Ray. -- Best Regards, Adriano - Editor in Chief @ Lonely Writers Publishing http://www.lwpublishing.com =============================== Followed by a reply: =============================== Hi Adriano, Nice to hear from you. I would appreciate a copy and will be more than happy to check it out. You can send it to the address below and just mail to c/o Ray Anthony. I will look forward in checking it out. I will give you feedback once it I received it. Have a good week ahead! Sincerely, Ray Anthony Jover Publishing Consultant iUniverse, Inc. 1663 Liberty Drive Suite 300 Bloomington, IN 47403 877-820-**** ext. 8104 ray.anthony.jover@***.com ================================= Then, no reply from iUniverse for nearly 3 months: ================================= Hi Ray, Have you received the copy of Chinese Without Tears yet? -- Best Regards, Adriano - Editor in Chief @ Lonely Writers Publishing http://www.lwpublishing.com ================================= Hi Ray, I believe you have received the copy of Chinese Without Tears we sent to you by now. Could you kindly send us your feedback? Do you foresee a cooperation between LWP and iUniverse? -- Best Regards, Adriano - Editor in Chief @ Lonely Writers Publishing http://www.lwpublishing.com ================================= Hi Ray, Could you kindly give me an update on the book "Chinese Without Tears" we sent to iUniverse early May? Is it a publication you're interested in partnering? -- Best Regards, Adriano - Editor in Chief @ Lonely Writers Publishing http://www.lwpublishing.com ================================= ... ... Until we contacted a big newspaper, CC iUniverse: ================================= Hi Ray, Could you kindly give me an update on the book "Chinese Without Tears" we sent to iUniverse early May? I'm starting to get worried when I read the press [http://www.complaintsboard.com/byurl/iuniverse.co /> Is it a publication you're interested in partnering with? Chinese Without Tears in now sold in several countries in Asia, Europe and Australia. Sales are pretty high, as expected. We're translating it into French and Spanish as we speak. We're actively looking for partners in USA/CAN. Hopefully, you should see Chinese Without Tears in some US magazines soon. Shall I call you on Monday to discuss this matter, Ray? If you can't or don't want to handle this case, could you kindly forward it to one of your colleagues? -- Best Regards, Adriano - Editor in Chief @ Lonely Writers Publishing http://www.lwpublishing.com =============================== Finally, we got an answer from iUniverse, asking us to purchase a publication package. Unbelievable: ============================== Hello Adriano, Your email has been forwarded to Customer Support for investigation. iUniverse will be happy to publish your book. When you next contact Ray Anthony, you will need to purchase a publishing package. You can check out our packages by visiting our web site iUnivese.com and clicking on the blue button that says packages. If you would like to purchase several translations of the book, you will need to purchase a package for each translation. Please be aware that iUniverse is a self-publishing company and therefore it is the responsibility of the author to market and promote their book. iUniverse doesn't undertake that responsibility, however, we do have many marketing services available for purchase to assist our authors in their endeavors. Since your book includes Chinese characters, please be aware that you will need to submit it to iUniverse as a Print Ready PDF meeting the iUniverse specifications for the PDF. If you have further questions, please let me know. Thank you and have a great day! Regards, Pamela Hawkins Senior PSA, Customer Support iUniverse ============================== Since then, we checked out the complains on Internet, they speak for themselves: - http://www.wired.com/techbiz/media/news/2000/09/38 />- http://www.merareview.com/16343/pod.html - http://www.ripoffreport.com/book-publishers/author />- http://accrispin.blogspot.com/2007/09/victoria-str />- http://www.complaintsboard.com/byurl/iuniverse.com />- http://iuniverse.pissedconsumer.com/ - http://iuniverse.pissedconsumer.com/iuniverse-self />- http://iuniverse.pissedconsumer.com/iuniverse-is-w />- http://iuniverse.pissedconsumer.com/iuniverse-self />- http://iuniverse.pissedconsumer.com/iuniverse-auth

Um, you asked a self-publishing company to publish your book. That in itself proves why they turned you down.

Self-publishing means you pay to have your book published. iUniverse provides a service that you can purchase.

They aren't a publishing house.

In all honesty, I'm surprised they stayed in touch with you at all. A few minutes on their site would have clarified what they could and couldn't offer you.

Typical. My advice to any aspiring author, is NOT to do business with iUniverse. If you are a current customer with iUniverse, ditch them as soon as possible.

Requests for review copies from publishers whose works www.discoverypublisher.com distribute must be made with those publishers individually. www.discoverypublisher.com do not currently offer tours of Discovery Publisher's' New York Headquarters. If an author has a website, the link will be available on the author's detail page. The User of Website may view all public events on an author's detail page. Some authors have email addresses, contact forms or publicity addresses on their personal websites which may be available on the author's detail page. Company's website only includes information about books and authors currently published by Discovery Publisher and available for order (including backorder and preorder) in the United States.

Summary

Discovery Publisher opened its doors in 2007 and is registered in Hong Kong. It also has offices/agents in the US, France, and China. When we think of publishers, we imagine someone who produces books. Not so with Discovery Publisher. Discovery Publisher produces not only books but also iOS iPad, iPhone, iPod Apps, Kindle/Nook books, ebooks, and CDs/DVDs. Discovery Publisher incorporates more than just writers, editors, and page designers into the fold; it also enlists the projects photographers, movie directors, storytellers, poets, and artists. Discovery Publisher starts creating from an idea. For its China guidebooks, language books, and publication with the China Government, Discovery Publisher materialized the seeds of a conversation and found a specific team to round out the stories.
