Expect Denial

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full

I initially went on LTD due to shoulder issues, but within about 10 months it was discovered that I had a rare tumor in the center of my brain. I had the tumor removed, but suffered a stroke after surgery.

I was left with several impairments that nearly 5 years later prevent me from working more than 3 - 10 hours per week. On December 16, I had a call from Disability RMS who handles Voya Financial claims. I was told that my benefits were being terminated because their doctor (hired gun) claims that my impairments are due to depression/PTSD. Two neuro psychologists state my impairments are due to brain surgery and cerebral stoke.

My MRIs show changes to my brain from pre-surgery to post-surgery and yet my benefits are now cut off.

I don't understand how any company can get away with this. ERISA laws need to change and disability insurance companies need to be held accountable.

I feel like I am being accused of wrong doing .. I do not trust the doctors they have on staff - I was a claims adjuster so I know how the came is played..

but I will not give up .. between POTS, Seizures and Pasding out.. spells of no memory, dizziness, exhaustion ..

low blood press and many others - I am so sure my boss would want me back or any other.. but the hassle is harassment!

Never paid

I was hospitalized for a full week because of many issues I had that were causing me to be insanely ill. RMS told me that they were not going to pay me for the two weeks I missed because I had "previously seen a dr.

about one of the issues I was having that could have a connection to why I became ill in the first place which makes it pre-existing." It took THREE MONTHS for them to tell me this, I could never get anyone on the phone and each employee told me something different, including my case was "Golden" and it would be complete that same week.

AWFUL. Not to mention not a single thing about my condition was pre-existing or related to my hospital stay at all.

DRMS is a joke

DRMS is a joke! I've been unable to work for 6 months now and even though they have paying me my monthly benefits, they make me keep submitting paperwork from my doctors visits instead of just paying me.

This is ridiculous! I paid into this for a year when I was with my former employer and I don't care if the benefits I've received far outweigh the premium I've paid in, I paid for this and I deserve to get my checks without having to be harassed for proof that I'm still unable to do my job! I've called the BBB (who are obviously on DRMS's payroll) and they said I didn't have a case because DRMS was compliant with the contract signed by my former employer.

This is total BS! I just want my money!

Unscrupulous, Rude Thieves

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full

They harass you for paperwork constantly; try to deny your claim or limit payments if they determine your condition is related to mental health; and then demand "overpayment" by almost $10,000 above what you receive from state disability----meanwhile they have stopped paying you anything until they receive it. (I guess they assume you won't have rent, utilities, or need to eat or feed your family during that time).

They are the rudest people to deal with; and as you are shifted from one to another, you realize your health is the least of their worries.

Loan sharks would be easier to deal with..

L.t.d. is meant to be just that for the lenghth of the illness, especially a catastrphoic illness

disability rms claims it is only good for 24months,but my husband has a illness that will eventually kill him.they just notified me today that his final check will be 30 days from today.we were led to believe it would be for the length of his illness.that is long term disability is supposed to mean.not 24 months,or whatever time that they think is acceptable to them. my husband paid for those benefits for many years, and now when he desperately needs them, they are taking them away from him.what do we do now?we need your help as soon as possible

Disability RMS-Payoff Drs to not get disability

I have been doing everything Disability RMS and Madisonnational Life have asked and now I am on my last appeal, I had a lawyer friend do some checking about Disability RMS and Madison National Group Longterm Disability, who are to be on facts and history on the person. My lawyer friend, Craig, works for lawfirm that busts insurance companies for fraud, paying off doctors to deny disability, ect.

Disability RMS is one of the top who likes to deny ppl, they don't have any negativaty reported on them, Insurance Companies, Do not want to pay, will take the premiums! What I have is the result of a brain injury from medications, Like the old saying goes, if you can't see it, it must not be so! One of my doctors is going infront of the Medical Review Board because I have medical records that he didn't send to RMS, he sent a Whole different file just changing some information, so I believe he is on the list. I have been on medical leave for almost 2 years.

Disability Denials with more appeals, should specifically explain what is needed for testing and not denial again and last appeal still not sure what the disability RMS is looking for.

If anyone else has had a problem with Disability RMS, please sound off. Attorney's firm is investigating.

I am a LPN and have been out of work since Jan.11,2012. Disability RMS has not sent me anything since March 23rd stating that my doctors have not sent them any concrete medical diagnosis or reason of not being able to work.

I have whiplash pain. The pain is severe and effects my neck, head, left shoulder, left arm and upper back. All areas of severe pain intensified by almost any task I do. Stephanie at disability RMS actually had the nerve to ask if I had a lawyer and what was the lawyer's name.

I did not tell her. They want me to see an independent doctor who I suspect they have paid off to say I'm not disabled. I am so stressed over how terrible I have been treated by Disability RMS. The stress causes my neck pain to be even worse.

I have not been denied yet but I feel they will deny me after I see their so call 'Independent Doctor". I have had three doctors to send them info stating I'm not able to work but yet I cannot get my short term benefits. To make it worse, my orthopedic doctors have treated me badly. Usually i leave the office crying because of how bad they talk to me.

This seems unusual.

Perhaps Disability RMS paid my orthopedic doctors off. Any advise is appreciated.

Unum and several other Disability Income insurers (including Principal, OneAmerica (AUL), and Madison National Life) use an organization called Disability RMS for their claims processing.

Disability RMS is vicious and vile. Their sole purpose is to seek out every reason and venue possible (no matter how ridiculous) to deny, reduce, and delay policy holder claims.

Their processes reflect ‘bad faith’ to the nth degree.

As a professional, I’ve experienced their tactics twice over the years. In both instances my clients did eventually win their case. (One was a sort of, it was a short term disability plan they denied because they claimed the employee did not work enough hours to be eligible. In the end, since they wouldn’t pay her claim, we forced them to refund ALL premiums paid on behalf of the employee which totaled nearly twice what the claim would costs them had they honored it.)

I promptly moved ALL my business to other carriers.

Under NO circumstances will I ever recommend ANY carrier that uses Disability RMS to anyone. Most certainly NOT to my clients!

I am a former employee and at one time dRMS was voted "one of Maine's best place to work"

Yes at one time they were; but now vicious and vile. They make you work at least 50 hours a week, unrealistic.

They lie to the client indicating five case managers processing their product and they had one.

All the managers care about is more more bonus. Instead of having a layoff they found

Just remember if you are covered under an ERISA policy your legal rights are limited in regard to taking action against the insurance company

My main doc gave me 6 weeks disability & said to see a psychiatrist for long term disability.

The psychaitrist I found said they don't recommend anyone for disability.

I figured how could a doctor not recommend what the patient needs and made the appointment with them, since I couldn't get one out of 5 psychatrist offies to answer the phone in 7 days!

It was so obvious that I needed to not work,so I was taken aback when he said he would increase my meds. Then he saw I was at the maximum levels.

So I see, they must get paid to Not recommend you for disability. Do you think this is through the medical insurance company also?

DRMS-paid me from 2001 through 2003.In 2003 their Doctor determined I was not disabled and they stopped my benefits.42 months later they agreed with my doctors that I was disabled. After lots of paper work they started paying benefits again.Looking back they cut me off deliberately with MALICE and INTENT.Their purpose was to make them look good on paper and to *** with the disabled like me.Your attorney may e-mail me to discuss.I still think about filing a suit against these cold, uncaring, disrespectful and arrogant thing they call Disability RMS!marty132005@***.com

Personal care attendant

I was injured in January due to a fall.My knee was badly damaged and i can't perform my job because it requires me to be on my feet. I was told i would off 8-12 weeks and need physical therapy.

I was told i would get six weeks of disability well i only got two and when i called about it i was told well we don't have all your medical records what we have shows you should be back to work in six weeks. When i tried to tell her what the report said that was sent to her conveniently she didn't have all the paper work.

Now have no income and fighting with them to keep my short term disability going until i am able to return to work. We depend on this for unfortunate mishaps and this is how we get treated.

Promised a check then denied benefits.

Disabilty RMS

To recap my wife’s situation, she fell and was injured Jan 30th. At that time she was unable to work. She is a Lead Respiratory Therapist. We got her job description which shows she must be able to pull ten pounds of a shelf with either hand. Since that was not possible, she was placed on short term disability. During the next 3 months, she went to physical therapy to try and regain use of her shoulder.

Once her recovery seemed to not progress as very well, an MRI was performed. This showed that surgery was needed, not just physical therapy. She had surgery on June 4th, recovered from that, and started physical therapy once again.

Short term disability ran out after 180 days and so long term disability kicked in. Also during this time medical insurance coverage was dropped and we had to opt for COBRA, just to keep insurance going. We were very thankful that we had a long term disability since so much time was wasted during the short term coverage.

On Aug. 8th, we received a letter from Mr. Howitt, Senior Managed Disability Analyst. This letter clearly states, in fact it’s item number 1; disability defined as, “ unable to perform all of the material and substantial duties of your occupation on a full time basis”. This is your letter! So until her physician releases her back to duty she is ‘disabled’. This letter states that she will receive a check in the amount of 60% of pre-disability monthly earnings.

Even though she is disabled, there are plenty of tasks she can perform, even with one arm in a sling. Her employer has a new software system and everyone needs training. Since she knows this new system, she was given the opportunity to help out, as a trainer, with some classes. After many months she was very excited about getting out of the house and feel some worth in her life.

Well the end of August comes and goes. We were assured that we would have a check in early September. Then Mr. Howitt talks to my wife and says she is working, how she dare ask for money and pretty much accuses her of committing insurance fraud. Well the anxiety attack which ensued almost put her in the hospital.

I have my wife’s Human Resources department dealing with this now, and we are looking into filing formal complaints with the various insurance boards and legal action.

Disability RMS exceeded 2007 finacail targets. Gee, that's a shock. Denying claims, keeping money from people and lying to customers... I guess I'd have lots of extra money, too.

If she's working, she's not eligible for disability. Have you read her contract? Do you know how disability works?

Guest

I have had a number of clients that have experienced extreme difficulties getting their claims paid.

What consumers need to know is that Disability RMS is an outside claims management 'service' contracted by the insurance company.

Merely complaining about this company's tactics here shelters the insurance companies using them from your complaints.

If you have, or are, experience difficulty with a legitimate claim you are making in good faith, make sure to highlight the name of the insurance company on this forum.

In addition, please file a formal WRITTEN letter of complaint against the insurance company to your State Department of Insurance. This is a consumers most powerful weapon.

Guest

At first they appear as though they care, but in reality they are collecting information to use against you, paranoid, nope. they are trying to do anything they can to deny your claim RMS Disability needs to be reported, and more people need to speak out, they have unscrupulous tactics that cause disabled folks even greater stress. people are losing their homes and not able to pay their bills, and these people are "playing" with your lives with pleasure!

Guest

I found out that I have a condition called Chiari Malformation I. As it progressed, I was unable to balance well enough to walk, I see double, I have extreme headaches, I forget what I am saying mid-sentence.

I had brain surgery last week. I have been out of work since March 1st, but before that, I could only work 1/2 days. I am a single mom and I may not be able to return to work until July. RMS says that the case has to be "approved" by their medical team and they could not tell me how much $ I will be receiving.

In the meantime, I have been evicted, my car is going to be repossesed. They get my premiums every month.

I am having to fight for something that I pay for? Denying me my benefits seems illegal to me...

Did your wife ever get her check? I'm having similar problems with them right now.
