AI Highlights
  • - Sued in small claims; installation work described as poor.
  • - No refund; warrant in debt filed to recover losses.

They were successfully sued in small claims court, and was truly one of the worst decisions we made. Here's the backstory.

Shane Dickinson, the Registered Agent for this LLC, is a full-time firefighter, this is his side hustle.

So this is why you'll rarely see him at the project. Once you point out the apparent lack of skill (like being able to read a tape measure) they will say you are rude, and aggressive.

The dad, Kevin, is truly no better, as he doesn't even live in the state and gets involved when it's time to threaten legal action (unfounded legal actions I might add).

I will say of Shane though, he truly is an Artist at building your Confidence. He came in a nice truck, with a nice tablet and all the right words he's heard along the way, making him seem like a person who knows what they are doing.

On day one, he was here for 12 minutes, and brought Danny (the owner of DN flooring) to do the installation. I asked him who the other person was with him, and I was told that's Danny's employee.

I didn't hire Danny, I hired Dickinson Drywall & Construction.

Within 30 minutes of Shane leaving the property, Danny also left leaving the unskilled helper from another company at my home for 5+ hours, who did not speak English (a point I specifically was told would not be a problem) and did not know how to install the floors, nor read the directions. Once I realized they didn't have the underlayment, I had to stop work. The person (who didn't work for DDC) sat on my porch on the phone discussing how to bail someone out of jail for the next few hours.

After expressing my concerns, the Dickinson's immediately shifted to we can just walk away if you're not happy don't fall for that.

The state of Virginia requires all parties consent to modify any contract, so when they threaten with you need to pay us or else remind them, they are breaching their contract.

There were a few disagreements over the provided installation directions, which they claim aren't required to be followed. I mentioned to them, I had called the manufacturer, and they continued to disagree with the manufacturers' instruction.

I would not purchase a Mohawk product from the Dickinson Drywall & Construction, LLC.

They incorrectly installed stair treads, causing my stairs to become out of compliance with the building code. I know they were wrong, because on the second time they came to install them, the 3rd or 4th group of day laborers stated this was installed incorrectly the first time. Kevin was visibly embarrassed because this newest guy didn't know they installed the first set. After meeting with a qualified flooring person, we discussed what needed to be done, of which the Dickinson's didn't offer, presumably due to lack of understanding how these should have been treated.

I paid, 12,910.00 for 1,600 square feet of flooring and one staircase.

Once I realized they were inept at this process, having confirmed with the county building code enforcement, a qualified contractor and the opinion of 10-15 common people, whom overwhelmingly agreed their work was sub-par I requested a refund for the stair portion.

I was told by them there would be NO REFUND as I hadn't given them the chance to install the stairs correctly.

Having seen their best efforts twice, I didn't feel obligated to offer a third attempt. At this point, I had to file a warrant in debt, to recover my losses hiring this company.

The majority of their reviews are friends and family, or paid for but not truly a reflection of their competence.

Just call a big box store, same people installing, half the price, absent the front end lying
