State issues solved
I came to Detaxify in 2018 with a tax issue that had been with me since 2001. I had been with other businesses to help me to resolve these issues and met with little success.
John Zandi personally handled my problem and always kept me informed about its status and provided me with next steps to resolve the issues. These issues had become an enormous source of stress in my life and it was through John's intervention that I could move on with my life and function normally with the knowledge that I had someone (finally!) who cared about me. I didn't ever feel as though I were just another client to him.
These issues were recently (5/2022) resolved much to my satisfaction and gratitude. A great weight has been lifted from my life thanks to the tireless efforts on the part of John and the people at Detaxify.
User's recommendation: Definitely try them out
IRS Revenue Officer stopped
We had a revenue officer from the IRS assigned to our case. They showed up at our house.
This firm was hired based on a recommendation of another. The harassment ended, I still had to wait a few weeks for the garnishment of my paycheck to stop but they took control of the case at Detaxify and finally stopped the garnishment, and I never heard from the Revenue Officer again.
The case was resolved and I saved thousands of dollars with penalty abatements; the tax did not all go away (as they told me would be the case from the beginning) but I got on a plan to only pay a part of it. Thank you.
- Legitimate company and they only take cases they can resolve

I contacted Mr. Zandi from Detaxify for an issue my mother was having with the IRS, which was claiming that she owed a large sum of money.
Although Mr. Zandis fee was quite high, we hired him thinking in the end it would pay off, as he would no doubt bring knowledge and expertise to our case. Unfortunately we couldnt have been more mistaken.
The case was ultimately settled by a family member who contacted the IRS directly. It was only after the fact that we discovered that the IRS decision to release my mother from what was owed was entirely a result of action taken by this family member, and had nothing to do with Mr.
Zandi. In fact he was not even privy to the exchange that ultimately ended up releasing her from the debt.
When I found this out from the family member, I was naturally disappointed that Mr. Zandi had not disclosed to us himself that he had not actually been the one to achieve the desired result. Rightfully, I asked him what he did in fact contribute, and what the fee of $7000 actually went toward, as he did not play a part in the reason we had ultimately hired him.
As such, I asked for a refund (even a partial one at the very least), in good faith, as the service for which he was hired was not provided by him but rather by someone else. His response was rude and uncooperative and he did not even attempt to explain what he had actually done for the fee we had paid him. That is when Mr. Zandis behavior turned and became shockingly unprofessional.
It started with him becoming unreachable.
For weeks he did not answer any of my follow up emails, and dodged all of my calls. It was only when I threatened to leave an honest review online, and report him to an ethics board did he respond. He told me to call him.
As he had not responded to any of my attempts to reach him previously, I thought that perhaps he had seen reason and was going to attempt a professional effort to address our concerns and find a solution, or at the very least explain what he did actually do to warrant the $7000 fee. Instead however, it was obvious from the first moment that he had no interest in finding resolution.
The invitation to discuss felt like a set up, a practiced one at that, as though he had encountered similar problems with previous clients, and had a way of handling them.
He grew increasingly agitated throughout the call (despite my remaining calm), and pounced when I stated I would bloody him up on the internet. Admittedly, these were not the best choice of words, as Mr. Zandi was seemingly hoping for something, anything, he could use as leverage. He began repeating over and over again in a frantic state that I had physically threatened him.
I calmly reiterated my original statement, which was that I had simply stated my intention to expose his behavior by posting an honest account of my dealings with him on the internet. His response to this was to hang up on me. As though his behavior up until this point was not already bad enough, Mr. Zandi crossed even further into territory of inappropriateness, when he began harassing my elderly mother, calling her repeatedly and sending her emails telling her that I had physically threatened him.
I am writing this review because I wish I had done my homework before giving Detaxify my business.
I wish I had read all the other negative reviews that exist about him online. I hope this review will help others avoid the very costly and miserable experience of dealing with John Zandi.

IRS harassment stopped
There was an agent from the IRS ("revenue officer") calling me constantly and the final straw was when they showed up to my door. I called Detaxify and was skeptical at first.
They explained to me how they deal with the IRS and their experience in doing so. Finally, upon hiring the Detaxify, the calls stopped, the harassment stopped. The case took some time because apparently Detaxify had to get a manager involved at the IRS and even file something with appeals to take the case to the next level.
After a few months, I got into a plan with the IRS and Detaxify was able to get my case closed so that I didn't have anymore calls or harassment!!! Completely worth the money and happy I hired these people

Owed over $60k and reduced to $20k
I owed over $60k to the IRS because of an audit. The Detaxify team told me it would take a couple of months due to how slow the IRS was - I grew worried a few months in thinking nothing was going to happen but finally in January I received a letter from the IRS that my tax balance was adjusted from $60k+ to roughly $20k (which was the correct amount of tax). I got into a payment plan with the IRS for the remaining amount with the help of this company and now luckily my issues are resolved.

They are truly an amazing company. Not sure what this other person is talking about.
It must be from someone that did not do business with them. They provided amazing information. I met with them in person. Not only did they resolve my tax issue, they helped me with me tax refund.
John and Brad have done an amazing job for me.
They were up front with all costs.
They worked out a payment plan for me. It was not only affordable, they under promised and over delivered on service.
- Cost
- Excellent representation
- Great customer service
- I had an amazing experience
Avoid them like the plague
John Zandi might be the worst CPA I’ve ever encountered. Certainly pays little to no attention to clients.
The person that called me was Bead Levin. Asked him how long he’s been working with individuals with tax problems. Answer? Four months.
Their $500 “Tax Analysis” is a joke. Call the IRS. Have patience and wait your turn. The IRS has everything you need to resolve your tax problem(s) fairly.
All any tax firm will do is get you into an Installation Agreement. AND, they’ll charge you thousands. Super easy to set up.Installment Agreements with the IRS Carefully read the certified letters you’ve received from the IRS. STOP PROCRASTINATING..
Do what needs to be done to resolve the IRS liability. Don’t listen to the idiotic sales pitch from people like Brad Levin, nor take tax help from weak CPA’s like John Zandi.
Don’t waste a penny on Detaxify. Educate your self a bit in www.irs.gov.
- Trying to think of some
- Complete joke of a business
Preferred solution: Full refund
Hang up on them
They are a two person office cold-calling from a dialer. Spoke to Brad Levin, who knew nothing of value.
Then spoke to the owner and CPA, John Zandi. Not sure he knew much more than Brad. Complete waste of time talking to tax resolution firms.
Companies like Detaxify (New York City) are a joke. Save your money and work directly with the IRS.
Preferred solution: Don't purchase a thing from them

We spent over a year on this case and our CPA is admitted to the United States Tax Court (less than 1% of CPAs nationwide to have such admittance). We charged a flat-fee below what a tax attorney would normally charge for such a case.
We obtained the exact result the client was looking for. The IRS attorney and even the opposing party in our case remarked that they would not get to this result without our representation.
This client tried to make threats then to get a significant amount of his money back even though we spent over a year on this case. Unfortunately, even though we have refunded clients before who were unhappy, in this case it was completely unjustified, you can't make everyone happy (even though we are surprised because we obtained the exact result that the client was looking for and was very happy, pre-settlement, to obtain, until we actually obtained it and then tried to argue that it was "too easy" - yes, it's easier for us than for you because we are professionals and experts with decades of training + experience, and we have an expertise that is unparalleled amongst other tax firms).
