I am a long-time customer of Derichebourg Recycling USA, with over 20 years of loyal business. Unfortunately, my experience in August 2024 was shocking, humiliating, and deeply troubling.
For approximately two months, I was repeatedly refused service at the porous metals department located at 100 North Bath Avenue in Oklahoma City, OK.
On August 18, 2024, while accompanying my associate to the recycling premises, my associate and I were once again denied servicesthis time, it was solely because I was present in my vehicle.
When we attempted to leave, the supervisor locked the exit gate, refused to open it, and repeatedly ignored our requests to let us exit the property.
My trucks reverse gear was disabled, which made it impossible to move my vehicle in reverse. Instead of assisting or de-escalating the matter, the supervisor mocked the situation and refused to open the gate. Despite our continued to request that they open the gate, they refused to do so and proceeded to verbally assault us. We sat totally dejected and taken aback by their senseless verbal abuse.
How they treated us was a disgrace! We were prevented from leaving their premises and held for a prolonged period of time during which time they continued to verbally assault us. We were forced to seek help from the front-office staff who eventually opened the gate only after they became belligerent and verbally hostile after seeing there was an altercation at the gate.
This experience was embarrassing and totally unnecessary. I was humiliated and felt racially discriminated against in a place where I had done honest business for decades.
I no longer feel safe returning to this facility.
I filed a police incident report regarding this matter.
As of to date, the company has not taken accountability, nor have they issued an apology or demonstrated any commitment to fair and equal treatment.
Businesses that serve the public are responsible for serving customers with dignity, respect, and basic fairness. Based on my experience, I cannot and will not recommend Derichebourg Recycling USA to the public.
