For the last 18 months the commissary @ Fort Bliss, Texas, has been failing. Rumor has it that the commissaries are being dismantled by unknown persons in Washington DC.
2. Store manager assigned do not possess the skills to oversee an operation as large as Fort Bliss. 3. Prices are too high for young and junior enlist personnel that make up the bulk of the military.
4. Empty shelves. 5. The commissary meat prices are the higher in the city of El Paso.
Other stores such as Walmart, Food King, and Albertson sell their meat at lower prices. 6. Commissary inspectors do not tell the truth concerning overall status of place. 7.
Personnel that work for the govt has a code, "It's good enough" the code should be "It is the best". 8. I am a customer and I have seen the commissary at Fort Bliss during brisk business, moral high, and shelves full. I cannot depend on the commissary to fill my pantry now I must visit Food King, Walmart, and Albertson to keep food on my table.
9. I will rate the commissary as a four(4),
- Best location
- Rotten fruit
- Not enough food
- Meat to high
Preferred solution: Price reduction
User's recommendation: Complain about prices, empty shelves, rotten vegetables
Not allowed to shop at the commissary
I arrived at the commissary at 9 am on the 1st of April only to find out the hours I could shop that day was from 5 pm to 7 pm that night and that only active duty members were being allow to shop 8 am to 5 pm, needless to say myself along with several other retirees were mad and never gotten any info about this the beginning of March and you know the thing that got me mad was after traveling 40 minutes one way and seeing maybe 8 cars in the parking lot and they would not make an exception seeing as the store had so few people shopping at the time, so I will go back on Saturday to do my shopping but I have a feeling the commissary will be packed with shoppers or they will ration the amount of people allow to shop at any time again creating an even grater problem
User's recommendation: be fluid as you never know what they are going to do
Disheartened by Eglin C's produce!
There are SO many things I like about the Eglin commissary and am grateful for the privilege of shopping there. Over the past 35 years I've had the pleasure of shopping at several commissaries -- a benefit not lost on this consumer.
However, today broke the proverbial straw on this camel's back. After 5 years of shopping at the Eglin commissary, I can honestly say that I've "never" (and I use that word cautiously) been a fan of the produce department. I rarely find fresh, quality produce that I don't have to seriously pick thru only to get it home -- like today -- and find that after only a few days from purchase, the green beans package (and the only ones available when I was there) from Eubanks Produce Farms (product #4066) were extremely rubbery and seemingly tough. Unacceptable by my standards.
Sadly, I have yet to buy what I consider "quality, edible tomatoes". Many should not have been picked yet (hurry to the market) are not ripe enough and others are 'mealy' with no taste to them. I even spring for the "grown on the vine" one believing/hoping THOSE would be better! Not so! Even when I "ripen" them in a brown paper bag, they suck. Same with the avocado. Most are small, hard, but expensive, and yet have to be ripened before use.
Perhaps you are limited in who you purchase from. While I don't understand commissary purchasing from various suppliers, I do understand competitive bidding on quality products that meet/exceed the customer's expectation. Apparently, and forgive me if I'm wrong, there just doesn't "appear" to be a lot of competitive bidding and better product happening at the Eglin Commissary.
Now, I'm not so blind a business woman as to know there are many moving parts that go into providing quality produce, but I'm stymied when we are surrounded by farms in Alabama, Mississippi, Georgia, AND Florida, and more!!! So...I don't expect a personal response but I DO expect a level of effort that offers your commissary patrons the BEST produce that our money can afford/buy.
If you've read all the way through these remarks then "thank you VERY much". Your produce team we say hello to do a fabulous job of stocking, restocking, and assisting customers. Please convey my appreciation and... hopefully, you'll be able to find an acceptable resolution to the produce dilemma.
Respectfully….

Your Banana Split Ice Cream
For the first time ever I purchased your half gallon banana split ice cream, and for the first time in my life I was extremely disappointed in the taste. there were no nuts, cherry, strawberry or pineapple flavors that I could detect.
All I could taste was chocolate chips and vanailla ice cream. I could not see any strawberry at all in the carton. All I could taste was chocolate. (A taste I am not crazy about at all, but I find that I must consume it on occasion to have the other flavors that I do enjoy in certain foods.
I am not Pissed, but I do feel that you need to review the ingredients you put into your banana split ice cream and fire whoever said it tasted like banana split. sincerely David Dunn e-mail is littlebuddy1-046@***.net.
