The decision to buy a Pan America has been the single worst mistake I have ever made in my life. It sits in my garage and I am forced to continue paying for it because both Death Valley Harley Davidson and Harley Davidson as a corporation refuse to take this bike back.
The bike has issues with the throttle (going into a sort of limp modes, or the throttle not responding altogether at random intervals). I have taken it to the service department probably 7 or 8 times with all the same results. They either say "could not replicate the issue" or "it needed a software update". This bike has already put me in two dangerous situations so far.
The first situation was when I was going for a tight low speed turn and it went into a limp mode and caused me to lose my momentum and I lost my balance and dropped. The second situation the throttle stopped responding altogether and forced me to coast the bike to the side of a mountain road on a blind curve with about 1.5 feet of room between me and traffic. I asked the dealership if they would refund me my down payment and take this garbage on wheels back. They would not do it.
They only offered to take the bike back if I agreed to take another bike from them. As you can imagine I was not interested in doing that. I already bought a brand new bike and it's been nothing but problems they can't fix. Why would I solve this problem by doing exactly what I did in the first place?
I got a lawyer involved and eventually an inspector from Harley came to look at the bike. A few days my lawyer said that Harley denied the manufacturer buyback. It is crystal clear to me that both Death Valley Harley Davidson, and Harley Davidson as a company both do not stand behind their products or their customers. My bike only has a little more than 2000 miles and it is currently under warranty.
What is the point of the warranty if the techs do not have the knowledge to actually fix the problem? Once this warranty times out I will be stuck paying out of pocket for any repairs as well as the monthly payment. I am both appalled and disgusted by this entire experience.
I will never buy another Harley again. Buyer beware!!!

I made an appointment to have my 21 Street Glide rear brake looked at. Appointment was Nov 2 @ 1130.
On Nov 3 @ 1245 I called to check on status of bike. I was told my bike was next in line for service. On Thursday Nov 4th @ 1100 I called for status on my bike and once again they stated my bike was next in line for service. They had my bike for 3 days and never looked at it.
I got my bike back and decided to talk to another dealership an hour away. They told me what I needed to do to fix this minor problem.
Great customer service from Quaid Harley-Davidson. Death Valley sold me the bike, but they forgot about taking care of its customers after selling the bike to us.
Preferred solution: Better customer service from the Service Departmen
User's recommendation: Shop around for a new bike. Look at the reviews for your dealership
