Dakota Country Kennels - Brittany Dog Review from Stuart, Florida
We purchased a beautiful French Brittany from them 4 years ago. We live in Florida so they flew her to Miami.
She has been very healthy except for a few allergies. I think lots a of people and animals have allergies in Florida. She is an amazing dog and could be a service dog for people who have anxiety or stress. Seriously she senses my every mood and if I am stressed she comes running to comfort me!
She would also be a great hunter if we hunted. She is great at pointing birds, rabbits and other small animals.
I love her very much and am very happy with her! I have nothing but good things to say about Dakota Country Kennels.
Dakota Country Kennels Shorkie Tzu Dog Review
We bought our Shorkie Tzu from Brett and Laura in 2013 and had a wonderful experience. She is a healthy, sweet and beautiful dog--exactly as described. I highly recommend them and their breeding abilities.
Dakota Country Kennels - Maltese Puppy Review from Winnipeg, Manitoba
I bought a little Maltese puppy named Banjo from Dakota Country Kennels in February. He is now eight months old.
He was the picture of health when I bought him and continues to be so. I was particularly impressed at how well socialized he was when I picked him up. Super friendly and very confident. I attribute that to the fact that DCK spend a lot of personal time with their pups.
Friendly folks, honest and who obviously care about their animals. I am very grateful to them.
Unprofessional
I purchased my morkie through Brett and Lauras company. He is a great dog with a loving and outgoing personality.
Although, health wise he has patellar luxation, where his knee cap (patella) is dislocated from its normal anatomic position. Their health guarantee says they will replace the puppy, but I asked if they would simply refund me the money for the puppy, as a I paid a good chunk of change for the puppy, and have created a bond with him. I called and left voice messages that went with no response. After sending them an email saying that I needed the money as previously agreed upon, they were "reluctant and I was looking for money." Let me remind you, this is after I sent them an estimate of the surgery cost from the vet himself.
Completely ridiculous. They have great dogs, as I love mine. But, the way they are handling the situation is completely unprofessional.
I even referred friends to them as well, because they fell in love with my puppy, and wanted one for themselves. And, now too, they are having problems.
Preferred solution: Full refund
Very Good Breeder!
Update to the previous review, dated today 4-11-15.
I negotiated a re-fund percentage price with the breeder. So, they did try to come to a mutual decision.
I understand that a breeder can tell at the age of 8 weeks that a puppy will have an under-***. Since I had never purchased a Mal-Shi previously, I wouldn't have been aware of that issue. The Mal-Shi sites do not say anything about an under-***. I do feel that breeders should be forth coming about sending a puppy out with an under-*** when we are counting on their information over the phone to be accurate.
That way I can choose to refuse the puppy or buy.
It does not affect his ability to eat. He has a great personality and we love him.

Our Mal-Shi has a severe under-***, the bottom teeth stick out when the lips are closed. My husband and I are waiting until he's 6 months to see if the teeth straighten themselves out.
Two Veterinarians are going to be writing up a review on the structure of his teeth. He'll be 6 months the middle of Feb.
2015. I anticipate that the breeder will handle this professionally, being that we paid a good price for this puppy.
I purchased a Malshi (Maltese/Shitzu) cross and he arrived by airplane on 11-13-14 in good shape and happy to see me. The transaction went smoothly.
I dealt with Brett the majority of time and he was very professional. He answered all of my questions to my satisfaction. This adorable Malshi is happy, appears to be healthy and is super smart. You can tell they have been played with and given attention.
He will be 15 weeks soon. He is house trained and walking up and down his pet stairs already. Of course he loves his treat incentives. Laura took care of shipping the puppy and it went really well.
Thank you Brett & Laura for a super cute little guy. Keep up the good work!
Dakota Country Kennels sells dogs with giardia.
Dakota County Kennels a Next Day Pets breeder sells dogs with giardia. After many months of searching for a hypo-allergenic and minimal shedding puppy, I settled on DCK. After several conversation and e-mails, checking with the South Dakota Agriculture Dept.
for assurance of licensing and the Human Society,I was assured DCK was a reputable breeder. Within 24 hours of the pup's arrival arrival, I saw a vet that tested the *** and found giardia.I requested the Nearmans, owners of DKC to reimburse me for the meds and the vet testing (total $49.00).They refused total reimbursement sending only $30.00 and referring to the contract that doesn't reflect a non-reimbursement clause for sick and diseased pets. I paid $500.00 for the dog plus airfare. The Nearmans are liars and frauds.
While they post a BBB sign, it is as meaningless as their words that they sell healthy pups. If you deal with them, dig investigate more.
Call the South Dakota Attorney General's Office of Consumer Affairs to find out the truth about the transaction including the e-mails and letters that were sent.

That's the problem to agreeing to a 2 Year health guarantee. Breeders know that customers get attached to their puppies, so they don't want to re-fund the money and only will replace the puppy.
If the puppy has a patella problem already at such a young age, I would get them to pay for some of the Vet. bill or complain to the BBB or the Attorney General's Office in your state. They have a responsibility to secure your trust. Word of mouth kills breeders and bad reviews do, too.
Also, if you get the knee fixed, make sure you close the bedroom doors and don't let the puppy/dog jump off of high places. It can happen again, as I had a poodle that had the patella issue.
I'm considering purchasing a dog from this breeder. You mention that your friends that you referred to Dakota Country Kennels are also have problems with their dogs.
What problems are they having exactly? Can you update?
