The following 2 companies in the business of moving and insuring house hold furniture and goods are focus of my recent moving experience with them:
D & A Transport (D&AT) M & D Pro Movers (MDPM)

Background contract information:
In January of 2022 I entered into a contract with D&AT, located in Hollywood, FL Maryland, where they agreed to move my household goods from Hanover, MD 21076 to Fernandina Beach, FL 32034. The agreed upon contract price was $2,700.00 based on occupying 910 Cubic Feet (cft) of truck cargo space but actual figures may be different upon loading all the owner packed boxes and movers packed large furniture pieces.
As a condition to my agreeing to contract with D&AT, I was assured by the D&AT that they would not sub-contract my move to any other company and that they will use their companys trucks, and not a rental truck to perform the move. As it turns out D&AT subcontracted the move to MDPM, and MDPM used Penske rental truck.
Total quantity of furniture and boxes loaded and moved to Florida:
1. Total quantity and the moving distance 1800 Cubic Feet (CFT) from Hanover, MD 21076 to Fernandina Beach, FL 3203* *** miles (Google calculated door to door)
2. Multiple requests for delivery of my furniture:
3.
On March 17, 2022, I requested MDPM to kindly arrange to deliver my household furniture & house hold goods on March 22/23, 2022, as I was closing on my newly purchased home on March 21, 2022. After the initial request, I made dozens of phone calls and sent dozens of emails to MDPM and copied to D&AT inquiring as to when my furniture would be delivered? Adding to this, I even humbly requested a couple times that I am 81 years old and sleeping on hard floor and eating all the time outside food is causing minor back pain and digestive problems. All I was getting were fake and false promises and commitments.
Finally, after about 6 weeks, in the end of April 2022, MDPM delivered my furniture.
At the end of unloading, unpacking non-boxed items, and assembling some of the major items, DMPM driver would not take back their small furniture wrapping rugs ~50 or so. DMPM driver demanded an extra $400 to take back used wrapping rugs and other material for trashing away. So, we carried ourselves a few rugs at a time in our car to the nearest Dumpsters.
Here is how D&AT/MDPM victimize me:
1. The initial price/quote D&AT gave me for 910 cft.
of the space in the truck was based on the numerous times phone and email communications describing, explaining, and clarifying the furniture in each and every room to be moved was only $2723 ,
2. The final price when the truck was loaded for an additional 890 cft. of space in the truck was $6500 at the time of loading and $2691 to be paid at the time of delivery of the furniture,
See the difference in the pricing for nearly the same amount of volume of the furniture.
Item 1 was to victimize me and Item 2, I had to pay as I was already in their trap.
4. After the delivery of the furniture: Now here is how much it cost in real terms to move 722 miles with a medium sized truck load: a.
Advance payment $550 b. Owner bought & packed 53 boxes based on MDPM quoted $2000 Paid at loading $6500 d. D&AT/MDPM refused to pay/repair damaged furniture $3800 Paid at unloading/delivery $2691 Owner took to dumpster in multiple loads as MDPM was
asking an additional $400 for their wrapping rugs $400 -----
This is what it cost me in real terms to move $15,941
Conclusion and my advice:
I strongly recommend: that you deal with only a moving company that will visit your home and gives you a fixed price quote OR put a ceiling on how much the final price can go up from their initial quote/estimate. Compare per cft cost of multiple movers.
D&AT charged me $5.25 per cft which was higher than many others in the business. Mandate delivery time you can live with without furniture.
D&AT/ MDPM damaged my furniture (worth approximately ($3,800.00) and will neither repair it nor pay more than $101.00 based on the 0.60 cents/lb,
PLEASE NOTE: I also requested for an Arbitration process regarding my claim for the damaged furniture but DA&T/MDPM refused to comply it, I feel very strongly that our State Attorney General should look into unethical business practices of gouging the consumers within the premises of LEGAL compliance, I will be more than happy to shed more light on any of the issues discussed in this complaint.
