Cut My - Refund refused

During the course of my kitchen refurbishment, I ordered a number of shelf boards from CutMy. The first few orders were fine (although delivery was a bit slow), but in the last order, the wooden shelves I'd ordered arrived in a very different colour from the others I'd received previously.

I emailed about the problem but had still heard nothing back after three weeks. I emailed again and got no reply. Eventually, I managed to find a phone number (no easy feat) and called them in person. I was told that they would not refund or replace the shelves as they were laminated with a natural wood finish and variations in colour were characteristic of this.

I agreed that this is often the case with wood, but pointed out that I had ordered a wood sample beforehand to make sure the colour was right, and that the colour of the last batch of shelves received was so different from the rest that they appeared to be made of a different wood altogether, as shown in the photos I had sent them. The guy then went into a long explanation about lacquering and said I should have asked for them to be lacquered to match the first ones. I pointed out that the first ones weren't, in fact, lacquered. He then said I should have asked for them all to be lacquered to guarantee consistency.

Nowhere on their webpage did it mention this, nor when I ordered the sample. However, he was adamant that they would not give me a refund or any other type of compensation, so I am now left with 4m of unusable shelves.

Very poor customer service and a very unsatisfactory outcome. I will definitely not use them again.
