AI Highlights
  • - Fuquay Varina agreed to bring the truck for inspection after the offer was accepted.
  • - The service manager couldn't identify the noise; the general manager demanded the truck back.

I am a 71-years-old that looked online and found a truck at Crossroads Ford of South Boston, VA. Crossroads Ford of Fuquay Varina agreed to have the truck brought to their lot, so I could look it over.

I wanted the truck and negotiated for some repairs which were agreed on by Derek Reavis. The next day I made an offer to buy the truck and it was accepted. We sealed the deal with a handshake and I sat down to wait for the paperwork to be done only to be told that they wanted the service manager to drive the truck and check out the noise coming from the front end. After some time one of the associates came back to tell me what the service manager had found.

The items were normal mechanical repairs and simple to fix. I could tell from the way it was getting explained to me that he is giving me the run around and I ask to speak to the service manager. The salesman, sales associate and service manager stood in plain view talking to each other for some time before coming out to talk to me. The service manager said he wasn’t sure what it was, and he had checked the air in the tires, let some air out, drove the truck, saying that letting the air out helped but there was still a noise, the motor wasn’t idling or running right, and that he didn’t know what that problem will be.

I had driven the truck, the previous day and having owned a HEMI the motor ran fine. I asked what it would take to fix it and why they couldn’t fix it and the service manager said, “This is a ford dealership and we don’t work on dodges.” It became obvious that they were not going to honor the deal that had been approved and sell me the truck. Their web site states “Come experience a different vehicle buying experience built around you the customer. It’s our goal to provide you with an excellent vehicle purchase experience.” They also state on their website that “We will run a Christian organization guided by the principles of care and compassion.” In my lifetime I have purchased many new and used vehicle and have never been put through any bull like what was pulled on me.

After the test drive yesterday, they told me that the general manager had called from VA and wanted to know if Fuquay was sending the truck back and today during the negotiations the salesman’s phone rang and when he hung up he said that the general manager was demanding the truck back. The truck sat on the lot in VA for 55 days and did not sell. I would not recommend dealing with any Crossroads Automotive, Inc. dealership.

It is truly a disgrace that something like this can happen to anyone and I feel part of it was because of my age. This gang felt like they could run over me because I am an older person.

Most of us were raised to believe that a handshake on a deal was binding. On their website they say God is one of their 3 core principles, I did not find that in my dealings with them.
