Covington Contracting Virginia Beach

Original review posted by user Apr 09, 2011
Covington Contracting did a home remodel addition for me in 1999. By 2001 I had to have much of the work done again due to poor construction and water leakage. I had significant water damage at that point and I found out 4/12/10 that water had been continuing to enter through the rooftop membrane that had been placed 8/99. The whole wall on the North side of the new construction had to be removed and replaced and the rooftop membrane had to be reinstalled correctly. I had contacted Mr Covington 12/10 and he felt there was too much time between his contractual period to assume any responsibility for the water damage. I reminded him that I had to have a second firm come in after his Company did the addition to correct water damage in 2001 and the current water damage was from a poorly installed rooftop membrane which rotted the entire 3 floors of exterior wall. Not to stand behind an obvious flaw in your company's construction a SECOND time is inexcusable.

Chaz, you are the ultimate philanthropist...your community should celebrate your selfless acts and praise you for caring so much about their well being! I've really enjoyed our conversation and hope that I can meet the man, the myth, the legend...THE CHAZ!!!!!!

Not worried about grammar. Not the point of this forum. If it saves someone from the time and expense I went through, it is time well spent.

It's funny you mention grade school Chaz, you should proof-read more of your rants before you post them online. Your sentence structure and grammatical errors are commensurate to my daughter's homework...she's thirteen. Hang on to your frustrations though, I'm sure it's getting you far in life.

Sounds like something you would say Bill. Not surprised by your response and inability to understand what it means to stand by your work.

I think this is helpful for someone planning a renovation in the future so they don't have to go through what I did. I thought name calling went out in grade school!

You're a clown :upset. Life is too short to torture yourself with matters like this. Let it go and go sign yourself up for a yoga could use the inner peace.

You are correct that you don't know me. I did much of the labor on the repair as First Atlantic said the insurance carrier was not paying them enough.

I was moving the scaffold, carrying supplies and trying to work my normal job as well. Covington could have put a crew on it and had the work done in a few weeks instead it took a few months. First Atlantic did nothing to the roof deck membrane and when the roofer came in 2010 he said the membrane was the source of the leak and with the amount of wood rot it had been leaking for years! If your motto on your website is "if a job is worth doing,it is worth doing right" then why did he not do the repair himself the first time!

I think it is pathetic that no one wants to be held accountable for their work! Maybe that is how you work but not me and I do not expect any less from the people I hire. A job done right the first time does not need someone to come in and repair the work after 18 months and then again less than 10 years later.

The main part of the house which was built in 1989 has not had any repairs! Just the addition!

So your builder did come back to the house and he did hold responsible the subcontractor that performed the work. It looks to me like he tried to correct the problem by going through the proper channels (insurance company) to get the issue fixed.

And after ten years, how are you so certain that this company, First Atlantic Restoration, wasn't the one responsible for compromising the membrane roof when they did the initial repair? Look, I don't know your builder and I don't know you, but I think it is pathetic that after nearly twelve years you are holding on to something like this.

It sounds to me like he tried to fix the problem the first time, you didn’t give him a chance to address the problem the second go round and now you're bashig his name on the internet. I guess you have never made a mistake in your professional career

Joe Covington turned over the entire repair in 2001 to the insurance carrier for his subcontractor. They in turn hired First Atlantic Restoration.

I still have all the paperwork from that and if your website motto " if a job is worth doing, it is worth doing right" then do it. I am not a contractor and depended on Covington to put on the rooftop deck membrane correctly and they never used house wrap when they removed my siding. I asked the site manager why he did not and he said not needed! I now know that was incorrect.

He put on an addition that I had to redo, all 3 floors.

Not good work. I stand by the facts!

So he never came back during the first repair? Not at all? Be sure your facts are straight, posting defamatory statements to a website(s) that are based on false information is called libel in the state of Virginia and you could find yourself with a lawsuit against you if you're not careful...

As you may have read, Covington did the original work in 1999. I had to have the first repair in 2001 due to water leakage.

Covington did not offer to do this and deferred to the Insurance carrier for the person he had due the siding. Why did he NOT want to do this himself? Because he didn't care. His motto is a " job worth doing,is worth doing well" did not come into play.

This was just over a year after the original work. I had no idea the rooftop membrane that he installed was the source of the leak as I am not a builder. I had no idea that water was now sandwiched between the Tyvek and the drywall until I pulled off the siding. The ENTIRE wall had to be replaced.

I did not call Covington first as he did not want to help me in 2001. This should NEVER have happened if the work was done correctly in 1999. It was Covington's poor work that lead to not ONE but TWO repairs.

I have not have any work done on the original house that was built in 1989, just to the addition that Covington did in 1999! I am attacking the right person!
